We had the bare bones of our app built by some freelancers and due to inconsistent updates, was functioning inconsistently. That’s when we found Northbuilt, on recommendation from a friend. They’ve been absolutely awesome the whole way.

They have since made the app look more like our original designs, they consistently update and maintain the app, quickly fixing bugs when they pop up (many of them are relics of previous developers). We’ve made small improvements monthly including adding new functionality. They’ve nearly completed a larger feature-add which includes advanced financial tracking, and the ability for users to subscribe to the app.

This build was outside of the regular monthly fee updates and is a major step forward for our company. The initial build of the new features functioned well, and I sent a large round of notes for them to tweak, which is included in the fee for the build. In the future, we’ll have Northbuilt push our phone app to the web to also be a web app.

Everything is done quickly. Bugs are fixed within days. New builds with bug fixes and feature adds are pushed at least a couple times per month. Larger builds are being completed on time based on the Statement of Work I signed before the project began.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I like that they are a relatively small company, and I get to talk to the folks at the company who run the show. They are excited for me and my project, and are encouraging and flexible. I run a small startup that is constantly raising money, so that last bit is key.

Are there any areas for improvement or something NorthBuilt Software & Apps could have done differently?

As they grow as a company, I could see Northbuilt having some more specialized folks on their team, maybe a UX designer who could weigh in on design elements of projects.

• Data will be validated and submitted through various ERP API Endpoints.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our portal has the ability for dealers to perform many more actions on their own behalf instead of needing to email or call in and take time from our sales support team. This will help us scale as we add more customers and grow expand into other product lines.

Our project manager is well organized as well as technically competent in order to have a tight turn order in communication and delivery. Our communication was anywhere from a weekly zoom call to multiple zoom calls as more complicated features needed were being developed.

They had a small technical team that was very capable to execute complex problems. What I thought would take months was built in weeks.

I’m the owner of Innovator Mindset, a professional training firm. My work involves developing assessments and instructional materials for teaching things like innovation and entrepreneurship.

What challenge were you trying to address with NorthBuilt Software & Apps?

I had been using an overseas company to help me develop various things, including an online assessment. The time difference made it increasingly difficult, so I wanted to look for someone in the US who could take over that work. I was also trying to create an e-learning tool that would incorporate that assessment into the actual platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

NorthBuilt Software & Apps developed our e-learning platform. Initially, I mapped out what I wanted to do and provided them with that. We then talked through it, and they agreed to it. The task mainly involved reworking what had already been created and adapting and connecting it to the e-learning platform that I wanted to create.

We’ve already completed the project, but they provide us with maintenance support and occasional troubleshooting.

The primary goal is to complete the project, which NorthBuilt Software & Apps has already done. They’ve met my expectations and are very professional and accommodating. We’ve had some ongoing issues, and they’ve been very helpful with that.

How did NorthBuilt Software & Apps perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re always very timely and helpful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We did go quite a bit over the budget, but when you’re doing IT work, that’s no surprise to anybody. Overall, I’ve been pleased with NorthBuilt Software & Apps’ work, and I can’t think of anything that they could do differently.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend working with NorthBuilt Software & Apps. I would also caution them on the cost side, but it's a reality you have to deal with when doing IT work.

We provided the broad outline of the functionality and user experience we needed. They scoped the project and created the roadmap for creation. They operated in two week sprints for the development. In each sprint meeting we would go over what was completed for approval or any needed changes. Once approved, it was published on the production site.

Additionally, during our sprint meetings we would prioritize and outline what would be developed next. It's important to note that the legacy application remained running while the new application was in development. Once a sufficient portion of the new application was completed, we converted customer over to it, while continuing to develop the non-customer facing portions. It worked very seamlessly.

They were very responsive to requests and completed work early or on time. I regularly spoke to the primary developer for out project on the phone, by email and via zoom meetings.

I could talk directly to the developers. They were very good at explaining highly complex development cycles to a non-technical person like me.
