Media Group Ukraine' is a media holding company that manages "SCM" television and new media projects. Our strategic goal is to create an integrated system in which the holding company's all assets will supplement each other.

Our holding company is a professional investor in Ukrainian media business. 'Media Group Ukraine' is one of the largest media holding companies in Ukraine. I act as head of I.T department there.

Security of our users is our to priority, so we hired NocService to audit security for our platform and provide us with recommendations on how to improve it.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to increase capability to resist external threats. We made audit, and got all necessary recommendations and guidance how to implement them.

When we met with NocService team, we explained them how we plan to move with our project and they said they can audit and make recommendations fast.

This was one of primary things why we admire our cooperation as they returned with details in two days. They provided us with clear report with explanation and recommendations how we should act.

We communicated with Sergey only, so it was pretty easy. We were not overburden with unnecessary talks.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Not yet, as we are in a process of implementation, but be believe we can share soon.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

As I said before, we communicated with Sergey purely, thus I cant make any statements about integration of teams, but he answered fast and what I liked best, we got fast result with them.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

This guys are really answering for all questions you have. They make difference, trying do more and talk less, saving your budget. We are satisfied with cooperation.

We had too short cooperation to notice.

I’m the owner and Founding Editor of Ukrainskaya pravda (Ukrainian truth) web-site. pravda.com.ua was founded in 2000, it is the first independent media on Ukrainian online media market.

As an independent media we are frequently targeted by hackers and experience ddos attacks. We also have to deal with periodical spikes of user activity then load on our servers increases in 10 or more times. NocService was responsible for overall architecture, programming of critical parts, DevOps and site support.

Our goal was to have a reliable website built on top of cutting edge technologies while sustaining low cost of ownership.

Serhii Smitiienko and his company are well known professionals in the high load architecture segment with good experience in Mass Media. We were referred to him by our partners.

They used integrated technologies NGINX, HAPROXY, VARNISH,REDIS, MYSQL to develop pravda.com.ua

We had an internal team of two programmers. They communicated directly with Serhii.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

During Euromaidan times our site took 17h place in the world with 350 million page reviews per month by alexa.com rating among news resources. This was a 100x increase in traffic of our site. But due to the flexible and stable architecture developed by NocService we were able to handle it without increasing our hardware capacity.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Our web specialists communicated with the team online. We as a journalist organisation didn’t feel any technical problems. Our huge number of readers also didn’t noticed any server mistakes.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We are in touch till now. Every time we need advice, Serhii and his team are ready to help. They always know the best practices in technology and I personally trust them.

I don’t remember any problems in our relations.

Creation and launch in the Ukrainian market of a modern information service for lawyers. I lead both the company and the project. NOCService was responsible for selecting server platforms, creating a network infrastructure, supporting and maintaining a server solution

On the part of the vendor, a project manager and a group of engineers (2-3 people, depending on the stage of the project) were selected, who carried out the configuration and maintenance of server solutions

I’m the co-founder of Worksection.com. We help modern teams to collaborate and manage projects. More than 1000 companies use our service in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan.

What challenge were you trying to address with NocService?

We needed a new infrastructure; ours was old and outdated.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Helping us to divide our monolithic application into microservices and wrap them into docker containers, they updated all our servers to new infrastructure, integrated with Git and CI/CD, with data encryption and replication. From there, they proceeded with a complete data migration and added an ability to scale in the future. They also integrated s3-compatible fault-tolerant storage.

What is the team composition?

I worked with Andrii (Partner, CTO) and a project manager. They communicated with their team.

They were recommended by my friend.

We spent about $12,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked on the project from January–May 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

With the new system, we will be able to scale faster and more easily because there's less manual work. I’m happy with the work they did.

I would score them highly on project management. We used a project management tool that helped them answer our questions more often and directly. Communication was good.

I like that they bring new technologies to the table, creating better outcomes.
