I’m the owner and senior lead developer of a software company. We create custom industrial machines for customers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Nanolabs?

We needed to rewrite the electrical part of our hardware. We had to create a custom board and had some requirements about the development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Nanolabs initially provided us with some reviews, insights, and several options. We evaluated them together and then finally set up a specific design. They also gave us some consulting and provided us with the final product.

They created the hardware, PCB, and electrical board.

What is the team composition?

We worked directly with the owner.

How did you come to work with Nanolabs?

I knew Nanolabs’ owner because he previously worked with us as a freelancer. He then started his company, and we kept working with him.

How much have you invested with them?

The total budget was between $10,000–$20,000.

What is the status of the engagement?

We started the project in September 2022, and they delivered it in December 2022.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thanks to Nanolabs, we reduced the number of support requests. We had an issue with the previous hardware, but everything is better now.

How did NanoLabs perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered the work on time and respected the budget. We communicated via email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Communication was straightforward, and they were very responsive.

No, everything was fine.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I was the Chief Technology Officer at ARB Labs overlooking all the development of both our software and hardware solutions for the casino industry.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Nanolabs, and what were your goals?

Our company lacked in house expertise of customer hardware and firmware development and needed to outsource this to expedite the development of our various products. Our goals was to develop casino security systems and constantly improve and iterate through designs with a rapid prototyping methodology in mind.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

This vendor was selected based on multiple factors, but most importantly how quickly they were able to turn around this design work and the speed at which we could iterate through different design decisions.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

While working on multiple different projects with this vendor the process was usually the same. A kickoff meeting would take place and we would present the project requirements. The vendor would review these requirements and come back to us with any questions, comments or suggestions and with budget and timelines.

Throughout the project if there were any additional questions, comments or concerns the vendor would immediately follow up and leave an open communication channel until the issue was resolved. Once the design was complete a prototype would be manufactured and built by the vendor. Once they confirmed the functionality and key product requirements were met they would assist is with designs for manufacturing to mass produce this product.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Our main point of contact was the owner of the company Andrei, and his partner Marton who was responsible for the firmware development.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Every product that this vendor designed for us was completed on time, on budget and met or exceeded the product requirements. Often the vendor would make recommendations and suggestions for future proofing the design which would in turn have huge cost savings for us in the long run and allow us to upgrade our software over time without needing to invest in retooling or redesigning any hardware components.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

Very fluid and streamline communication with the company. They would make themselves available when we needed them and would communicate via email, slack, video call or phone whenever we needed while being in different time zones then us.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive thing I found about this company was their speed of development. Something that I would expect to take months to design would be completed in week and small updates to parts would sometimes be completed as quickly as a few hours.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

As they continue to grow as a company and take on more clients I just hope they are able to continue with their speed and efficiency as well as their great communication that I have experienced working with them.
