BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the director of Visualising Software Limited, a tech startup. We’re currently developing a premium mobile fitness app. My key responsibilities are ensuring that the development pipeline runs as smoothly as possible.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?
We are building the product from the ground up, and it was important to us to establish a classy interface with a unique style and brand from the onset. We wanted to collect UX research for two distinctive areas of the app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Momentum Design Lab provided UI/UX design services. We had various calls before starting pre-production meetings. We provided them with a basic UI prototype and documentation explaining some of the challenges we were facing and the things we wanted to focus on. From that point, Momentum Design Lab conducted the necessary UX research.
They researched and defined user personas to identify the clearest approach for designing the interface. We used their discovery research to test and strategize our marketing campaign. They used Figma to design everything.
What is the team composition?
We were assigned three teammates: Joanna (Principal Product Designer), Myra (Product Delivery Lead & Client Services), and another designer.
How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?
I initially searched on Google for the top UI/UX studios in London. Then, I discovered a list on Clutch and contacted Momentum Design Lab and a few other highly-respected companies. Every company had an impressive portfolio and unique take on how to approach the project, but Momentum Design Lab’s CEO offered the clearest strategy and sound advice on how to divide the budget, assign the necessary resources, and maximize our return by delivering high-quality screens.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent $50,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them from November–December 2022.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re still in development, so it’s difficult to assess the impact right now. We’re being private about the product, but we’re confident that people will love the interface when we release it. The design was exceptional. Moreover, the UX research Momentum Design Lab conducted was extremely useful when we strategized our launch campaigns.
How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management was excellent. We were kept informed as to how they were distributing our budget, and they were very sensitive to our time constraints for delivery as we were running many critical development tests from our side. Momentum Design Lab understood and managed every milestone flawlessly. At any stage, we never felt that the delivery time would be in jeopardy. They did an exceptional job; it was a smooth process from start to finish.
We used different tools to communicate, including Basecamp and a private Slack channel. We used emails for confidential information regarding budgeting and other things of that nature. Overall, Momentum Design Lab will go above and beyond to ensure communication channels are as productive as possible for the client.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They were very agile and methodical when adjusting the design features after receiving our feedback. Moreover, the team completed high-quality work in the given time frame.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, we don’t have any suggestions. Momentum Design Lab performed their service at a high standard.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I recommend preparing the necessary documentation so they can do their job up to the high standard they’re known for.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a department VP for a 911 software provider. We provide call-handling software to 911 operators that helps them ask the right questions in emergency situations.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?
We worked with Momentum Design Lab to look at some UX enhancements for our software product.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Momentum Design Lab helped us enhance our product’s UX. Initially, they took us through a design innovation lab workshop, where they helped us define our ideal user persona. The workshop included doing extensive research into our product to see how it currently operated, as well as some interviews with end users to see how they were using the product.
After the workshop, Momentum Design Lab used Figma extensively to create some low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes. During this process, we went through a long series of wireframes to reimagine our app.
What is the team composition?
We worked with various teammates from Momentum Design Lab, including the head of UX, a team of 3–4 designers (one of which was a senior designer), and a main project manager responsible for keeping timelines and budgets in order. Additionally, the project manager was assisted part-time by another resource from their team who helped with the requirements definition.
How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?
We found them on Clutch. Our CEO and I had talked about reimagining our apps’ UX, so we shortlisted around 30 firms for the project. From there, we narrowed the list down to five firms that got into the final phase, and Momentum Design Lab was the winner among the finalists.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent between $250,000–$500,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from October 2022–February 2023.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re still in the development stage for this product, so we don’t have any metrics regarding Momentum Design Lab’s work. However, our engagement had a huge impact on our organization.
We had the chance to involve 10 cross-functional teammates from different areas of our company, who participated in re-imagining our product’s UX. The fact that Momentum Design Lab involved different people in the process was very beneficial to jumpstart it and get ideas coalesced for the direction we were moving in.
Now, we’re transitioning from an on-premise product to a cloud-based product, which will be a significant transition for our business. Momentum Design Lab’s design process allowed us to get input from people across our different departments who wouldn’t normally be involved in the process.
Their team was great at balancing our needs for the project and managing a very large team with very different opinions from our side. Ultimately, our project was a very healthy exercise for our organization. Instead of doing the silent product development we did in the past that only involved a few selected people, we opened the doors to other areas of our company to help us define how that product would look like.
How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
Momentum Design Lab’s performance was outstanding. Throughout the project, we received weekly project reports from the project manager about billing and hours, demonstrating excellent accounting and communication skills.
As for time and budget management, we agreed to do an extra week of work because the wireframing phase ran a little bit longer than expected. Still, Momentum Design Lab’s plan was coming in on budget, but we agreed to extend that budget slightly to get the remaining work done.
However, those overages weren’t Momentum Design Lab’s fault. Ours was a tough product to work on with a very tough use case, so we put the designers through an extensive wireframing process to assess different ideas.
Throughout the project, Momentum Design Lab communicated everything clearly. For example, if they identified red flags early on about things that would delay certain phases of the project, they let us know. They used Basecamp for project management, as well as Slack for communication.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Momentum Design Lab did their job right throughout the project and helped us get where we wanted to go. Overall, their work was tremendous.
Are there any areas they could improve?
It would have been great if Momentum Design Lab had been more open to giving feedback. Sometimes, we can be loud and have very strong opinions, but we also have thick skins. Thus, it would have been great if they were more critical of some of the ideas we put forward, telling us if they heard a bad idea before we got further down the process. Still, they were wonderful and brought everything to life in the right way.

BACKGROUND
Please describe your company and your position there.
Department Head at innovative biotech
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Momentum Design Lab?
We wanted an intuitive but visually appealing user interface/experience to help with browsing very large volumes of scientific data - the challenge was making human insights easier while retaining the fine detail
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor?
Searched various review sites, looked at portfolios and reviews. Selected a shortlist of 3 and did interviews.
Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.
Their team conducted an initial product brief with our specialist users, then engaged in roughly 4 weeks of iterative design work with a couple of catchups a week with the same users. Progress was shared via a SaaS tool where we could leave comments in addition to feedback during meetings.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
Worked directly with a couple of designers and project manager.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Very pleased with the outcome from a design perspective, but also the interaction with their team throughout the process. The designers were enthusiastic and above all capable of understanding a complex problem well outside their usual scope - engaging with the challenge and making it their own independently pushing the design outside of our suggested ideas. They really brought their expertise to our knowledge, rather than relying on us telling them exactly what was needed.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Very good, frequent collaboration made for an easy workflow. Questions were very clearly put and demonstrating good understanding of the problem, and pinpointing the challenges accurately.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They had the ability to quickly and fearlessly adapt to a new industry and understand a technical subject. The clear passion and enthusiasm for good design and the quality of the final product.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Nothing of note.

“They accepted any challenge and always came back with ideas.”
A cryptocurrency payment platform wanted to create a coherent design system that they could implement to all their products. Momentum Design Lab looked at the user journey to reshape the UX/UI design.
Although it hasn’t gone into production, the client was satisfied with Momentum Design Lab’s performance and quality work. External stakeholders gave excellent feedback about the demos. Moreover, the team was very willing to listen to the client's needs, accommodate them, and provide feedback.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the executive creative director at a head of payment platform for crypto companies.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?
Most of all, we needed a coherent design system that we could take across all our products, including our most important payments platform. Also, we needed to reshape the UX to address our current customer needs. We had to relook at some of the tasks across the platform and ensure we had the most seamless journey for our customers.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, we gave Momentum Design Lab a brief with the few objectives we needed to tackle. They came back with a standard design and thinking methodology. Mostly, they looked at the user stories and journeys to determine the objectives and tasks users needed to achieve. They also looked a bit beyond the scope.
Ultimately, they came up with solutions to tackle those problems, issues, and opportunities and created a UI and design system. They used Figma for the UX/UI and design.
What is the team composition?
Mark (Managing Director) popped in and out of calls to ensure everything went smoothly. We worked with Jonathan (Principal Product Designer) as our lead UX designer, Mikey (Senior Product Designer) as a UI designer, and a project manager.
How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?
We put an RFP at a few agencies. Early in the pitching phase, Momentum Design Lab introduced us to the team we’d work with. We had a natural chemistry, which was important for us. Also, we’d seen their credentials and some clients' testimonials. We thought they’d be an excellent company, and we’re glad we made that choice.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from April–July 2022. It was a six-week process.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since we haven’t gone into production, we don’t have proper measurements. However, we ran our clients through some demos, and the responses were absolutely brilliant. We were really pleased with the results and our collaboration. They accepted any challenge and always came back with ideas.
How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management was excellent. It was a challenging project, especially due to the several internal and external stakeholders. However, they handled everything well.
They used Monday, but we used ClickUp internally, so we asked them if they could try to use our system. They went above and beyond to learn it and help us with project management.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They were a top-caliber agency. If you look at their clients, it speaks for itself. However, one of the key things about working with them was that they constantly listened to us. They always asked for feedback to incorporate it. Also, if they didn’t agree with something, they challenged us while still listening to what we wanted.
Are there any areas they could improve?
When we started to do the demos with clients, we didn’t look at the feedback to see if we could address something immediately. However, it was a minor point. Overall, I can’t think of anything they could improve on.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
When you’re working with an agency, it’s important to meet the people you’ll work with first. You need to know that you’ll be able to collaborate with them.

Momentum Design Lab provided UX design for a market research platform. They did some user research, including customer interviews, and then created the visual and UX design using Figma.
The designs Momentum Design Lab created were good, and user testing validated their usability. The team took the time to understand the client’s goals, and they communicated fairly well through daily check-ins. Their ability to balance their expertise with the project’s requirements stood out.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a co-founder of a platform for physical product testing and research. We allow our clients to send products to people in their homes, solicit feedback, and then use that data to improve their products.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?
We had an initial MVP that we had built using a no-code solution that helped us learn a lot about the use case and the business and to validate the product concept. However, we needed to turn that into a fully-fleshed version of the platform, and we wanted to do it quickly. There was a lot of design work we needed to do in a short time, so we partnered with Momentum to help us with that.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
First, we shared our data about the use case with Momentum. We also gave them documentation about the process we’re enabling, our customers, and our desired features. The team did a short research phase to understand the user, including some customer interviews. From there, they created the visual design with the mandate to deliver pixel-perfect designs for the UX using Figma.
What is the team composition?
Throughout the process, we met seven teammates from Momentum, including the CEO and a sales representative. The design team consisted of five people: the head of UX design, a lead designer, two junior designers, and a delivery manager.
How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?
We went through a research process where we used Google and Clutch to find some names. In total, we talked to around 7–8 agencies of various sizes. We had checklists and a rundown of our needs, and Momentum was the team that stood out to us as the most technically capable. They had a lot of experience working with startups and were the right size; big but not massive, and not so small that they didn’t have all the skillsets we needed.
Additionally, we were happy with their sales and scoping process and how much they considered our needs. We got down to two final vendors and asked for meetings with the designers to see what the chemistry would be like. While the other team denied this request, Momentum obliged, which was a pretty big indicator that they were thinking from our same perspective.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $230,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from February–May 2022.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The Momentum team was good. Our product has a lot of nuances because we’re taking an existing process and digitizing, modernizing, and applying technology to it to make it more efficient. Therefore, the process was very complex, and it took a lot to get Momentum up to speed on the process during the research phase. However, once they got it, they understood and started to think from the users’ perspective.
Through the iterations we did, Momentum was able to come to really good designs. We did some user testing at the end of the process, validating that their designs were usable and considered the use case.
How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
The project management was pretty good. Although we used Slack, most of our communication was synchronous because they preferred to talk things through. Although I understand that, it slowed us down in some cases because they didn’t always want to get quick feedback.
Initially, they were hesitant to ask questions or contact us when they needed clarification. They had originally booked five twice-weekly hour-long meetings, and we’d encourage them to send us a Slack message in between meetings. We never got that out of them, so we switched to a half-hour check-in every day to answer any questions. Our project manager got them aligned, which really helped. However, I would have expected our openness to be evident to them earlier in the process, considering their experience.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I appreciate that Momentum did a really good job of understanding us and our customer’s needs. I’ve worked with agencies that push their own agenda or have their perspective of how things should be done. While there are certain cases where that’s useful, Momentum balanced their design expertise while not trying to push their agenda of how we should build the product. They really listened to us about our users’ perspectives and were able to espouse them quickly.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Now that we’re implementing the designs, we’re noticing many inconsistencies in them from an engineering handoff perspective. The designs in Figma may look beautiful, but when we export them to Zeplin, there are lots of little mistakes and imperfections that we’ve had to fix. For example, there are areas where they defined spacing that’s 15 pixels instead of 16 when everything should be in multiples of eight. They’ve also used textiles that aren’t in our catalog, so we’ve had to update it, or they’ve used a color that isn’t linked to the style in Figma. These issues have been a bit annoying.
Since we worked with sprints, they were handling a different part of the UX each week, and in the background, they were developing the design language and architecture as they went. Therefore, the pages we finished in the last three sprints follow the same design architecture and properly use components. Meanwhile, we’re noticing random things in sprints two and three because Momentum hadn’t quite figured out the design language. I would have appreciated them going back and revalidating those initial designs to follow the more mature design sensibilities. These issues amount to their process and structure that can be improved.

client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of an early-stage spin-up; we’re developing a product for retail sizing for e-commerce technology.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?
We needed to overcome a UX design challenge on the Android mobile app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Momentum Design Lab did UX design and helped us develop our branding and its aesthetic. We started with a research and discovery session where they presented to us the design options, which was during the branding phase of the project. After that, we gave them feedback on their work, and they then presented the final choices, including the visual marks, the logo, colors, and the major brand-positioning components and style guides.
For the UX part of the project, they designed the interface for our Android app; we showed them our technology and what we needed to make it work. After that, they developed a prototype, which we reviewed and refined, and consequently, they did user testing to come up with the final product in Figma.
What is the team composition?
We worked with a project manager and a team of designers.
How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?
We found them through a Google search.
How much money have you invested in this partnership?
We spent $150,000 with them.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from May 2021–July 2022.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We received positive feedback from our parent company about the branding and design efforts, including the quality of their deliverables and assets. Also, a UX expert reviewed the product and said it was great — the expert noted that many users would be able to use the app without any issues.
How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management was great; they provided weekly reports on the schedule, the planned activities, the tasks they completed, and how many hours and dollars they spent on them.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They delivered exactly what we wanted them to, which is great. Their work was iterative, responsive, and attentive to our feedback and requests. Overall, working with them was a great experience.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on.

transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a transportation management company in the drayage and intermodal space.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Momentum Design Lab?
We were trying to have a third-party analyze our mobile app’s UI/UX.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We initially contacted Momentum Design Lab. They made me fill out a form on their website and got back to me immediately. We then set up a series of meetings to understand what I was looking for. After that, they prepared our scope of work.
Our app communicates to drivers when they’re going to drop off or pick up their next load. It’s built using React Native and is available on Android and iOS. Our goal is to have a seamless UX for both drivers and dispatchers, and Momentum Design Lab has defined personas and user stories for the two.
We’ve already finished the initial engagement, but we’re so happy with Momentum Design Lab’s performance that we’ve started new projects with them.
What is the team composition?
I’ve worked with six people, including a UI/UX specialist, a translator, somebody that looks at workflows, and someone who develops user stories.
How did you come to work with Momentum Design Lab?
A friend referred me to Momentum Design Lab. I reached out to them and had an awesome experience from start to finish.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $300,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve been working together since April 2022, and our partnership is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Thanks to Momentum Design Lab, we haven’t experienced bugs or crashes with the app so far.
How did Momentum Design Lab perform from a project management standpoint?
Momentum Design Lab always works under budget and submits within deadlines — that’s incredibly rare. They also publish weekly SWOT analyses about our deliverables and next steps. They’re very organized in recounting what has happened in the previous week and what will happen in the new week.
Momentum Design Lab is very hands-on with how we move the project. They’ve even done a competitive analysis even though we haven’t asked them to. We collaborate through GitHub, Zoom, and Basecamp.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Momentum Design Lab’s professionalism and ability to detail the scope of work are impressive. All of their teammates are highly trained and very knowledgeable. My seasoned team feels comfortable working with Momentum Design Lab.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of anything — Momentum Design Lab just nailed everything really well. Working with them is one of the best experiences I’ve had with a vendor.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
If you don’t have a project manager, ask that they push your team forward. They’ve done an excellent job for us in that regard.
