BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the senior software development manager at a real estate company. I oversee product development and engineering for our customer-facing apps. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Modis?

We hired Modis because we had to source a couple of data and software development roles quickly. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Modis has helped us onboard resources for the roles we need. On top of that, they provide staff augmentation services and contract hiring services; their resources also do direct work for us. Moreover, their resources do most of the pre-screening tasks. I typically have the description ready, and they search for matching candidates in the job market. 

In terms of candidate requirements, we’re looking for ones that have data and software engineering backgrounds. The cases vary, but this is the general area that we consider when sourcing candidates from Modis. For the data side, we want candidates to be familiar with RBI, Databricks, and Azure Data Factory. For the software side, they need to be familiar with .NET, Azure, DevOps, C#, and JavaScript. 

What is the team composition?

We mainly work with a business development manager. I interact with her the most and work with other team members through her.

How did you come to work with Modis?

Someone else in our company was already using Modis for one resource. I asked them about the team and started the engagement from there. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent close to $500,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Modis in January 2022, and the engagement is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve hired some of the people Modis has found for us. In total, we’ve had them source 5–6 candidates this year — one of them has already become a full-time employee of our company. I don’t have any specific metrics, but the candidates we’ve had through Modis have been truly strong.

How did Modis perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve never had any doubts that Modis is doing their best to source candidates for us as soon as possible. 

We set no real deadlines; it’s unrealistic to do that in an engagement with a recruitment company. That’s because their job is to go to the market and find candidates that fit the job description. I’m the one who says whether or not the candidate they find fits the role. On top of that, Modis only gets paid once they find someone who truly fits the job. As a result, they’re incentivized to find someone as quickly as possible.

However, the market isn’t always in good shape. When things take a while, Modis isn’t the real problem. In fact, working with the team has been easy. They’re highly transparent and good at what they do. Overall, working with them has been great. To communicate, we use emails and Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Modis’ perseverance has been impressive. I’ve asked them to fill a lot of job openings in short succession; I’ve put a lot of pressure on them to get things done quickly, and they’ve delivered.  The team can handle pressure. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have well-defined job descriptions and provide as much feedback as possible about what you like and dislike. That’s my biggest advice: communicate well with them, and they’ll adapt to whatever you ask them to look for and meet your criteria.
