The project was a software modernization initiative for a large, legacy, field service application. The application was rebuilt on a modern tech stack, including Microsoft and JavaScript technologies. Lumica helped us with additional Angular expertise and successfully boosted the engineering capacity of the team on a short notice.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was most impressed by their professionalism and deep understanding of Sitefinity. They were able to accommodate our project within their schedule, allowing for a quick turnaround so we could proceed with our migration to WordPress.

Are there any areas for improvement or something LumicaSoft Ltd. | The Sitefinity Experts could have done differently?

While the project was delivered successfully and on time, there were a couple of minor challenges that could have been handled differently:

• Team Coordination: Initially, the consultant assigned to our project had to step away due to an urgent matter, which did create some initial confusion on our end. However, LumicaSoft quickly addressed the issue by assigning another consultant, and the transition was smooth. In retrospect, clearer communication during this transition would have helped to avoid confusion, but the team’s ability to adapt ensured there were no delays or impacts on quality.
• Legal Considerations: Before starting the implementation, we had a discussion regarding adjustments to the contract’s arbitration clause and a few other details. While it might have been helpful to address these legal aspects earlier in the process, LumicaSoft was very accommodating and made the necessary adjustments quickly. This did not cause any delays, and we were able to proceed as planned.

One component of our product is a Management Console. It provides a web UI for managing and monitoring product deployments. Our challenge was that we allowed the technology stack used to become very out of date – as in 7 to 8 years out of date. Utilizing such an old technology stack made it difficult to provide user requested enhancements

The Management Console consists of a backend service built on Grails and a web UI built on Angular. Our challenge was that Angular was not a core skill set of the team, not to mention an already big backlog of work demanding their attention.

We immediately recognized that we needed to outsource the Web UI work to a group with proven expertise. This is what led us to Lumica.

Lumica was hired to achieve two goals. First was to update the web UI to the latest version of Angular and related components. The processes, code and tests all needed to meet best practice standards. We need a product that is robust, reliable and secure.

Second was to improve the usability of the Web UI and to address a backlog of user requested improvements. This is an area where Lumica’s experience really shined. They brought forwarded many suggestions for how the Web UI could be improved to provide a more modern user experience. The end result far exceeded our expectations.

Lumica met or exceeded all our expectations. The quality of the code was excellent and successfully transferred back to the our team for future work. The resulting Web UI provides a more modern, and higher quality, user experience.

The end results exceeded our expectations. The quality of code produce was excellent and the user experience through the Web UI was greatly improved over the prior implementation. Lumica met their time commitments and took the time to help educate the our team on the technology and techniques adopted in their work.

Lumica is a great partner to work with. 

We met weekly to review progress and they were proactive in raising any issue needing immediate attention. Of great importance was they met their commitments. We need to coordinate the efforts of multiple teams involved in development. Knowing that Lumica would deliver on time, eliminated one potential headache.

No. In many ways Lumica shepherded us through this project. They know the best practices for building a first rate Web UI and shared these with the our team during development. At the end of the project they were very supportive in handing it back to our development team for ongoing support and future enhancement. Lumica is a reliable partner with a proven ability to deliver great results on time. We will definitely work with them again.
