For what projects/services did your company hire Lucid Reality Labs?

For our innovative technology for hysteroscopic procedures, Lucid Reality Labs developed a procedure simulation in 3D.

What were your goals for this project?

The goal was to showcase the value of our technology and demonstrate the simplicity and safety. We are using this tool at congresses and workshops. Right now we are working on some exciting extensions of the existing modules, which will enable us to even go one step further and use it for training.

How did you select this vendor?

I have seen the amazing procedure simulation that Lucid Reality Labs have created for another Medtronic business unit. And I immediately knew: this is the way to go!

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Lucid Reality Labs developed a simulation of two different hysteroscopic procedures in 3D. This interactive tool offers the opportunity to get familiar with our equipment, and learn the technique to remove pathologies. It is very realistic, and we get excellent feedback from everyone trying it.

What was the team composition?

Within Medtronic, 2 people were directly involved in the procedure development. And we also got support from our customers: We wanted to make sure that the simulation is as realistic as possible, so Lucid Reality Labs and our team spent two days in a hospital, studying the procedure setup and every single step.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

When the surgeon, who initially invented our product portfolio 15 years ago, sat down to try the VR simulation, and was more than impressed by this tool, we knew that we had accomplished something meaningful. It´s an excellent way to draw more attention to our booth, start conversations with potential new customers, and explain the value of our technology not only through words, but through a realistic and playful experience. We immediately received lots of requests for other Gyn events wordwide, which shows how much interest we could generate.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

When Lucid Reality Labs presented their plans and timeline in the beginning, I thought it was very ambitious. But they kept their promises.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

From the first conversation until the final product it took less than seven months, which is very impressive, especially when you consider that they didn´t have any expertise in gynecology in the beginning. I 100% trust them, because they did not only stick to their ambitious timeline, but they also have a deep understanding of how human beings think, learn, work and have fun. They are able to combine all of that, and therefor create a unique experience for our audience. The final product was much better than I had initially thought.

What were your goals for this project?

The objective was to have a sustainability oriented VR game to raise awareness on the need to respect the ocean and have clean fishing practices.

We've found LRL through review of services and portfolio and peers benchmarking.

They helped us design the game End 2 End by providing expertise in creating the VR environment and tailoring it to our needs. They'have developped across several sprints for a total of 2 months of work.

The game had great reception towards the audience and won an award at the Expo JA for best user experience.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management was very smooth. The team was on top of the timings and deadlines and always delivered on time and in quality.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their openness to make it work and to work as one team versus setting up client / vendor barriers. We had access to the full team and could really feel their implications on the project.

This App can capture Pulse Oximetery details from the monitors and automatically measure the risk of critical congenital heart disease. Before this App, everything was done manually and it was time consuming and also not very consistent among nurses. This App is Easy, Smart & Consistent platform to screen newborns

They picked up where the precious vendor left off. Their team fixed the previous vendor’s work and completed the development for the augmented reality features I mentioned above. They also helped improve our suggestions algorithm.

I was looking for developers using a few different online platforms. A lot of vendors were claiming that they had the knowledge and skills, but couldn’t prove their expertise. On the other hand, Lucid Reality Labs showed us examples of their work and answered my technical questions clearly.

I’ve been working with them since May 2020, and our work is ongoing.

I think the general quality of their work is really good. They exceeded my expectations and made things very easy for me. They’ve set up the platform so it’s easy for me to access myself even though I’m not a technical person.

Although we’ve only worked together for a month and a half, they’ve delivered on time and been very responsive so far. We have weekly project calls, and they respond to my messages within a few hours.

I appreciate that they’re trying to help me solve the problem and find the best solution. They provide insight on the beauty industry as well. I think they genuinely want to see their clients succeed.

I’m the founder and CEO of Technodramatists, a theatre and tech company. We take emerging technologies like AR to create tools and productions for the use of live performances for theatre, concerts, comedy, and so on.

What challenge were you trying to address with Lucid Reality Labs?

Our team ran into some difficulties we couldn’t service on our own, so we partnered with Lucid Reality Labs to help solve those problems and create our application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?
They handle our AR development efforts. We were building an app that’d do facial and motion capture for live performances. Basically, it’d allow people to control avatars with facial movements in real-time as they perform. Their team used ARKit for development.

What is the team composition?

There are about 4–5 team members overall, but we work with 2–3 individuals on a regular basis.

How did you come to work with Lucid Reality Labs?

I found them on Upwork. They had a certain degree of professionalism that I liked. What’s more, they saw what our problem was, scoped out a solution, and presented a strong proposal.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership began in February 2019, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The final application worked beautifully. They’re experts at ARKit and AR development in general. The Lucid Reality Labs team is full of incredible problem solvers. All sorts of things came up throughout the project because we were still discovering details as we moved along; however, they rolled with the punches, which was really amazing.

Despite being in a different time zone, they meet deadlines and are always there to help us work through a problem. Currently, we’re working on new projects with them — there’s no better compliment than that.

How did Lucid Reality Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Our teams have a shared Slack channel that’s organized and helpful. We also use Skype for video conferencing. It’s much easier to communicate through these channels than through back-and-forth emails because it gets us to the bottom of problems a lot faster.

I have an account manager and he has a technological specialist he works with. I often get on calls with both of them so I don’t have to translate things through our account manager. Their CTO checks in fairly regularly to make sure the project’s going smoothly and things are progressing. Once in a while, even their CEO will check in to make sure things are all right.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The UX they designed was incredible. Not to mention, they’re dealing with something they had never experienced before. Likewise, UX is not something I was an expert in so I got the opportunity to learn more about it. Their ability to match our needs through the design and UX was exemplary.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I’m really pleased with everything.

What challenge were you trying to address with Lucid Reality Labs?

The idea was to create an AR productivity app with Google’s Tango platform. After Google discontinued that platform, Lucid Reality Labs helped me move my app to emerging AR platforms that are more common today like ARCore and ARKit for iOS.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Lucid Reality Labs develops my work on the Unity platform and using C#. They have done very high-quality work developing the app and documenting their code.

What is the team composition?

We work with a minimum of six people. There are more testers behind the scenes that I don’t interface with. We transitioned through a couple of lead developers since the start, but Lucid Reality Labs managed those transitions very well.

How did you come to work with Lucid Reality Labs?

I found them on an outsourcing board like Upwork when they were just getting started as a business. I put out my project and saw hundreds of responses. I replied to everyone that expressed interest and asked them to develop a full scope of the project within a week. I would pay their developer rate for that week’s work.

Out of the avalanche of applications, only five responded to my request, and only two followed through. Lucid Reality Labs was the best of the two responses.

How much have you invested with them?

It’s easily over $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

I’ve been working with Lucid Reality Labs since early 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of work is great. Lucid Reality Labs is super collaborative. I come to them with ideas, and they not only understand what I ask for but also read into my intent and offer options that I didn’t think of. I definitely see the amplification effect working with their team.

How did Lucid Reality Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re very flexible We use an update process that I defined, and Lucid Reality Labs has accommodated it without issue. It’s a virtual daily standup via Skype, Slack, or another messaging app. I give them a brief daily form of updates, and they’ve been great with taking that and making it a springboard for dialogue when necessary.

We used to use Trello to track milestones, but now we have Jira. I have access to the board and can easily see what Lucid Reality Labs is billing me for and what work is being done. It makes me feel confident that everything’s moving along.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Lucid Reality Labs does a great job of specifying the work they’re going to do and delivering it in weekly increments that are client-testable. That lets me see the project as it goes.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, none come to mind right now. But if there were ever an issue, I’d bring it up and they’d address it immediately. They’re super responsive and constantly seeking to improve.
