Longbow Technologies is a specialist engineering firm in legacy mainframe modernization and applied AI. We work on the systems most vendors decline — decades-old COBOL, CICS, IMS and Db2 estates — and move them to Java, Python and cloud platforms without losing the business logic embedded in them.

Mainframe modernization
Mainframe-to-Java migration, Db2 to Oracle and PostgreSQL conversion, and phased decomposition of monolithic batch and online estates into REST-accessible services. We read the legacy code directly rather than working from documentation that stopped being accurate years ago.

Legacy mainframe development
COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, IMS DB, IMS DC, REXX, CA Easytrieve, Assembler (HLASM), IBM Db2. Full capability to maintain and extend the estate while modernization runs in parallel — migration rarely means switching off the old system on a fixed date.

Agentic AI
LLM-based applications, retrieval-augmented generation, agent orchestration and MCP-based tool ecosystems. LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, AutoGen, Amazon Bedrock. We apply the same stack internally to accelerate legacy analysis — automated COBOL comprehension, dependency and copybook mapping, and test-case derivation from existing programs.

Middleware
IBM MQ (WebSphere MQ) and IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) — message flow design, ESB architecture, and IIB-to-ACE migration. Middleware is usually where mainframe and modern systems have to coexist during a multi-year transition, and it is where most modernization programmes stall.
