We gave them a very thorough scope because we are a software development company. This included intended behaviors and screen mockups. To guarantee the same outcomes on Macs as on Windows computers, we provided regression test files to the underlying file processing engine. We have completely outsourced our development to Kaizen App, who is our only developer. They created our web, iOS, and Android applications. They have done some Microsoft development, and I think they started with C++. 

They handle both development and design. They’ve designed our website, software, and software interface. We’ve worked with them in two capacities, the first of which is project-based work, where we have specific features to add. They develop the statement of work and finish the job based on their quote. We’ve also employed full-time devs through them.

Their progress over the years has impressed me. Before beginning a project or feature set, we go through the entire process of creating a document that covers everything, from front to back. They then provide feedback and suggestions, which is excellent from my perspective as I'm not a software engineer.

One thing that I truly like about dealing with them is that their project managers are informed and proactive. Their project managers are skilled at communicating problems from a development perspective, even if they are not developers themselves. They have excellent communication skills.

Our previous developer built everything in PHP, which wasn’t the appropriate language to communicate with databases. They built everything on Python and helped us migrate off of a BigQuery database that wasn’t fit for purpose. We landed on an AWS database that is more in-tune with our requirements for the data that we hold and the queries we run on it.

The result enables us to adhere to the plan that we have jointly developed. They've done a fantastic job of fulfilling their promises. They are on schedule for our major release, which is scheduled for the end of this week. We have time for more testing because they have already supplied everything.

From the beginning, they had a project manager on it. I've taken on a lot of this role because I'm really hands on. We now have daily calls, which are highly productive, and they rapidly adapted. We started with a full revamp and redesign of our app’s UI/UX which took around 3-4 months. Then we went through the development and testing phase. We rebuilt the entire app from scratch. We also asked them to help us with website development. They took it on and delivered.

We haven’t gone live yet. Website and app launch is rescheduled for June 2025. By then I’ll have better metrics on how our users are receiving Kaizen Apps work.

From what I can see their graphics team is very good. Their research and design team did their market research. For our major competitors, Kaizen Apps helped us learn from their mistakes and copy their successes in our design and development. The app is ready to go live and I’m happy with the results. I have no complaints and looking forward to going live.

We used several project management tools, Notion for documentation, Trello for sprint runs, tracking action items and prioritising features. We also used Pivotal for technical feature sets, to make sure cards were assigned to the right dev and part of the development cycle.

They manage resources well, assigned action items and documentation to all internal departments. They communicated on time about the expected completion dates and met those deadlines.

Their autonomy. As a Founder and President I have many internal responsibilities and I don’t want to micromanage. I just give Kaizen Apps a task and its priority and they handle it on their own and deliver exactly what I need.

Sometimes it took 1-2 months to find additional developers for iOS, Android or PHP. Not every vendor has developers on demand but it would be nice if they could speed up the process. But they did find the right person, sometimes even better than the previous one.
