I’m the CEO of IT Relations at a software development company. We specialize in data processing and distribution to several branches of our customers. Our key product right now is a POS solution — a cash register software.

What challenge were you trying to address with implemica?

They’ve acted our external development team, on and off, for about 10 years.

What was the scope of their involvement?

For the past three years, we’ve been working with them quite heavily for cloud services. They’ve also taken care of server implementations for our client applications in the past, but it’s all about the cloud nowadays. 

What is the team composition?

We’re currently working with five people from implemica, covering every part of the project from basic development to database administration and deployment, as well as project management.

I'm always the project leader since I’m the business owner, but implemica’s team can cover every position needed for an IT project. We consider each of their computer scientists to be a part of our development team. 

How did you come to work with implemica?

I met Boris, the CEO of implemica, 10 years ago. At the time, we were working as a very small team of 3–4 people, and together, we created the first version of our cash register system. We lost touch for 2–3 years after the project ended, but then new refinements were required. I was sure that I wouldn’t be able to implement these new features and requirements with my internal staff, so Boris created a team for me. Over time, we added 1–2 more developers and adjusted the number of people needed for the project in order to get the job done.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent a bit over $500,000 in the last two years.

What is the status of this engagement?

Specifically, with implemica, we’ve been working together since October 2019. I started working with Boris 10 years ago though I don’t know if he had formed implemica at that time. We plan to continue to work with them over the next few years.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The ideas for our development projects come from our customers, meaning the desired results come from them as well. implemica has to deal with our expectations, as well as those of our customers, and they always meet them. In fact, they routinely overdeliver, adding in their own ideas that produce better results than we’d ever dreamed of.

I also value how low the back rate is compared to the amount of functionality. Every feature isn’t perfect in the beginning, but implemica never needs more than two rounds to deliver.

How did implemica perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re using JIRA. I have a lot of experience with other companies within the last 30 years, and implemica has been the best in this regard.

What did you find most impressive about them?

If I have an idea, implemica can take it and do something with it. At the same time, if I have a bug issue, they can fix it as well. They can address everything from coding to more high-level issues that involve research and mockup creation. Over the last 10 years, we went from client-server architecture to cloud architecture, and they came up with both.

They can cover every part of an IT project, either working or closely — especially on tasks like bug fixing. Our team in Germany works very closely with them. Overall, they’re great to work within both situations.

I’ve had a couple of experiences in the past with external companies that claim that they can do the same as implemica but it isn’t so. With those other providers, you either get programmers that need to be told what to do or resources that don’t have enough knowledge.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I really don’t know what could be improved, as I’m quite happy with them.

Talk to Boris and let him add his ideas. You’ll get better results than you expect.

We’re an e-learning company that develops courses for U.S. colleges and universities. I’m the VP of operations so I manage the technology department.

What challenge were you trying to address with Implemica?

While we’re an online company, we don’t have an in-house technology department. We outsource our technology tasks to Implemica, from developing our software to managing our websites.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

While Implemica has provided various different services over the years, the development of our custom web app has been a significant part of the collaboration. They’ve also developed our website offering. We offer website hosting for universities, and they’ve managed its different branches and the respective designs they require.

They implement most of the architecture and design of different technical tasks. Sometimes we ask for something very specific, but other times we only provide them with a very basic roadmap. They execute the project, we provide feedback, and then they make the necessary adjustments.

Our platform is hosted on AWS, and Javascript and PHP are the primary languages they utilize.

What is the team composition?

While the team size fluctuates, we generally work with around 4 people. The team is comprised of anywhere from 2–7 people.

How did you come to work with Implemica?

We were seeking development resources for a specific project and found them through a google search. Since then, our partnership has expanded to include much larger tasks.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent under $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in June 2017 and it’s an ongoing relationship.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Most of our sales—possibly, up to 90% of them—are driven by the work that they’ve done. They’ve built the majority of the organization’s functions, so they’ve provided enormous value. There have been instances where we switched to their product offering, and the returns paid for the project altogether.

With our previous provider, we encountered many problems and had to spend a lot of time resolving the issues. With Implemica, we’ve experienced very little to no downtime. We’ve had a great experience with the functionality and quality of their work.  

How did Implemica perform from a project management standpoint?

That’s one area that they could possibly find room for improvement. A large part of that problem is our own scope creep—I wouldn’t put the blame on them for any scheduling issues. However, we do collectively struggle with making sure that things are delivered on time.

We use email and Skype to communicate. We use Zoho and Jira as our project management tools.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re an excellent and cost-effective IT resource, especially for smaller organizations like ours. You get a lot of bang for your buck.

They take out the time to understand the exact scope of the task at hand. They’re very analytical and understanding when it comes to providing solutions.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Often times, since they’re an international provider, the language barrier can be challenging.

Know exactly what you’re going to accomplish, and make sure that you express that very clearly.

I’m the CEO of Doka, a platform where people can store and manage their documents in an electronic CMS system.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with implemica?

At the time, we were a small startup and were looking for an agency to develop our platform. We hired implemica to build and design the frontend and backend, and help with analysis.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

implemica created the system exclusively for desktop use. We had full specifications and an idea of what we wanted in the platform. The development started with the APIs. Our team provided a Word document with descriptions of what we wanted the API software to do and what other things we wanted on the backend. They developed the backend separately from the frontend.

We provided them with Photoshop drawings which they improved upon. The backend was built with JavaScript. They also used HTML5, and TypeScript on the frontend.

What is the team composition?

We worked with four people from implemica. Boris (CEO/CTO, implemica) was our primary contact.

How did you come to work with implemica?

I started looking for a developer to help with coding. We tried numerous services and, in the end, found implemica. Boris responded to our online offer, and I appreciated the professional services he offered me.

We spent around $60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with implemica from July 2016–August 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After the platform was completed, we needed to have unique testing performed on the code. We provided implemica with a list of tests we wanted. Their team executed all of them to measure the code’s quality. If we have something come up in the future, we’ll likely call them again.

How did implemica perform from a project management standpoint?

I mainly spoke to Boris who managed all different phases of the project. He was responsive to all of my questions. The team was fast to respond to our demands. Boris provided the deadlines for each task, and they respected every single one. The work was extremely collaborative. Boris is skilled.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Other companies I’ve worked with weren’t as professional as Boris and his team. For example, I’ve worked with vendors that have broken promises; however, with implenica, I received what I wanted. Their hardworking team delivered everything they promised.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. implemica developed precisely what we wanted.

Clients should be transparent when talking to developers about what they want. Make sure specifications are ready because it’s helpful for their team.
