We had a problem with our Dell EMC NX3240 equipment, consisting of two virtual disks (VDs in a RAID array with SAS disks), one with 3 SAS HDDs and the other with 10 SAS HDDs. We needed to recover some virtual machines running on a LUN from a Dell PowerVault, which was a storage from a Proxmox host. The datastore became unavailable because of unknown reasons and, to our surprise, the only available backup was not working. Hosco managed to assess the situation doing physical and logical diagnostics, and reconstructing the whole data structure from lower to upper-level, using their proprietary tools. They effectively mapped the available data and recovered all the available parts.
The deliverables were the restored Proxmox storage (which is equivalent to VMware datastore) and its virtual machines even before the estimated deadline.

Key deliverables for this project included the successful reconstruction of the logical RAID volume, a fully mountable and consistent VMFS datastore, and the restoration of all virtual machines in a functional and bootable state, accompanied by a final integrity report confirming the total recovery of the organization’s data.

By successfully repairing the VMFS datastore and reconstructing the logical RAID volume despite the physical hardware failures reported by the iLO, the service eliminated the need for a manual rebuild of the entire server environment. This resulted in a significant reduction in downtime and avoided dozens of hours of manual labor, ultimately preserving the total integrity of the organization’s data capital and restoring operational continuity without any missing records or data gaps.
