BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the senior vice president of an educational and lobbying organization. We advocate for efficient lock and dam infrastructure on inland waterways. I also manage the communications program.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenges were you trying to address with Horizon Media Group?

We publish a quarterly newsletter to communicate with our members. I provide all of the content, photos, and collateral. However, we have a designer do the layout. We were working with a freelancer, but we wanted to work with an agency.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They do the layout and design for our quarterly newsletter which is distributed digitally. We share a Dropbox where I can provide them with photos and content. We communicate about the featured story for each issue. They’re soon going to be completely redesigning the newsletter layout for us. 

What is the team composition?

I worked with two designers: John (Creative Director) and David (Senior Designer), but David is my primary contact. I’ve also worked with Shianne (Salesperson) for account management needs. 

How did you come to work with Horizon Media Group?

I interviewed three firms in the Paducah area. I was interested in Horizon Media Group because they also have printing capabilities. Although we don’t print the quarterly newsletter, this service interested me. I felt comfortable with them right away. 

How much have you invested in them? 

We invest about $650 per issue. 

What is the status of this engagement?

I began my search in December 2019, but I didn’t select Horizon Media Group until January 2020. Our work is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They make me feel at ease with the process. They’re available to me and never miss a beat. When we were working with a freelancer, communication was far more difficult. That’s not the case with Horizon Media Group. They deliver a top-quality product for an affordable price. 

How did Horizon Media Group perform from a project management standpoint? 

They’re always available to me, and since they’re located nearby, I can meet with them in-person. Working with Horizon Media Group has reduced the amount of time we spend putting together each newsletter and reduced cost. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re flexible and accommodating. Compared to the other firms I spoke with, Horizon Media Group is a balance between being easygoing and remaining regimented. I’m confident in their ability to deliver because of their experience delivering projects far larger than mine. They take things off my plate. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not that I’ve been able to determine. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers? 

In many ways, design is really personal. That’s why it’s important to have a good relationship with the design agency that you’re working with.
