This project focused on transforming a legacy, on‑premises legal data pipeline into a scalable, cloud‑native architecture to enhance performance, reliability, and analytics capabilities. The legacy pipeline consisted of: On‑prem relational databases storing legal case records, filings, and client data. Shared network folders containing scanned legal documents in PDF/TIFF formats. Periodic CSV exports from third‑party compliance systems. The modernization initiative leveraged: Amazon S3 for secure, cost‑effective, and highly durable storage of both structured and unstructured legal data, with lifecycle policies for archival and encryption for compliance. AWS Glue for serverless ETL processing, enabling automated ingestion, cleansing, transformation, and enrichment of multi‑source datasets, with a centralized Data Catalog for schema management. Snowflake as the cloud data warehouse, providing high‑performance analytics, elastic scaling, and advanced security features such as role‑based access control and data masking for sensitive legal information. By migrating to this architecture, we achieved: Significant performance gains through parallelized, serverless processing. Improved reliability with cloud‑native fault tolerance. Enhanced analytics capabilities, enabling near real‑time insights for legal teams and compliance officers. Reduced operational overhead by eliminating on‑prem hardware dependencies and manual data handling.
