Please describe your company and your position there.

Fondee is a roboadvisory investment web service based in Prague, Czech Republic, operating in CEE region. I'm a CTO at Fondee.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire GeekCoders, and what were your goals?

Fondee's product is an online investment platform for retail clients who want to invest into ETFs with diversified portfolios. The challenge for GeekCoders was to take on the development of the whole service after the first year of not very satisfactory cooperation with another company. The code was a mess and we needed to launch the product in a very short time.

The goal was to develop the website with a client zone and separate website for administration as well as the backend where complex investment processes are run. The job also included creating sustainable connection to the systems of an external broker (API connection, FIX protocol implementation).

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We shortlisted several developers from Czech Republic and selected GeekCoders as the best choice for the job.

The scope and technologies included: - PHP webside - SQL database - API connection (using Go) - FIX connection (using QuickFIX) - e-mail and SMS clients - dynamic PDF generation (monthly reports for clients) - chat (LiveAgent integration) & much more

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I've worked directly with Vojtech and almost all other members of GeekCoders, since the project was still in a developement stage and we needed to discuss every detail. Even after launch, when we shifted to standard agile workframe, we were able to discuss everything immediately and openly.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

With GeekCoders we were able to launch friends & family version of the service in 7 months and go public within 12 months. The project was very dynamic due to not very smooth cooperation with third parties (mainly the broker). So I consider it very successful that we managed to launch in such a short period of time, despite the not very good state of the code from previous developers.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

We had quite standard agile workframe using Trello, GitHub and other servises. Sprints and workflow was managed by a project manager, but we kept close contact with all developers.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

GeekCoders' flexibility was their most impressive feature. Because we were a startup before launch at the time, you can imagine that there were more than a few major changes to the assignment along the way.

Thanks to GeekCoders, we were able to react quickly and push the project for a successful launch. And even after the launch it is necessary to react ASAP to some issues. Especially Vojtech was always available and thanks to him we managed to solve potential problems so fast that they haven't became real problems.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Only improvement I would suggest is a better project management in some aspects.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Every design step was delivered through presentation in Figma. And coding was presented on staging environment.

Everything was delivered on time, with great quality. All the estimates were met. We had just several changes, that were solved in 24hours.
