I work for a nonprofit as a health and nutrition technical advisor. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Florian Thomi?

We had a technical alliance, and it was a new mechanism that would develop under a prominent nonprofit organization. We wanted to fill the gap in our knowledge on nutrition emergencies, and we needed a video that would explain who we were as a new organization or agency. With the video, we could explain to people how we worked, who could use our services, and how people could contact us. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Originally, we wanted a video that was around a minute and a half. However, the final video ended up being two minutes and 40 seconds long. That was because our alliance’s structure changed between the time we engaged Florian and the time we wrote the script and created the video. 

Meanwhile, the video itself was made using 3D animation. Florian came up with all the graphics and visuals of the video. They worked to capture the global element of our group, making the video useful in a lot of contexts. Florian gave us a storyboard and script. We reviewed them, and then they gave us another storyboard. From there, they created a mockup of the video and asked for our feedback again. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with Florian (Content Creator), and he worked with four other people to help him create the video. Those people helped in modeling texts, music, animation, scriptwriting, and other tasks. A voiceover artist also worked on the project. 

How did you come to work with Florian Thomi?

We received quotations from different people who could develop explainer videos. Florian put a bid forward, and we decided to go with them based on their previous work. On top of that, the cost they quoted for the project was highly attractive.

How much have you invested with them?

We were given a huge discount, and we paid around €20,000 (approximately $23,000 USD). However, their work’s full cost would be about €65,000 (approximately $73,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement lasted from January 2020–May 2021. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The video was finished, and we were able to use it on our website. We also uploaded it on Vimeo, and our team used it at the start of our seminars and talks with groups and agencies to explain our work. 

Moreover, the video wasn’t like an advertisement; it wasn’t meant to garner thousands of views. Instead, it was meant to be a resource that we could use to explain our group, and it was effective.

How did Florian Thomi perform from a project management standpoint?

Florian’s project management was great, and the team was communicative. There were delays on both our sides mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the team was truly invested in the design process and the video’s concept. They worked to bring a strategic intent document to life through their strong creative vision, which helped them tell an engaging story. Simply put, working with them was great, and we had strong communication. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They coached us through the experience and ensured that we knew all of the critical points in the video. I’d never worked on video production or storyboarding before, but Florian told us when things were getting overly technical. We relied on them as the experts in the project. Moreover, Florian had the ability to pick out the best team members for the project. Overall, they were truly helpful in guiding us in the video production process.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there weren’t any. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be open to having a creative discussion with Florian; be influenced by their ideas of the final product, and you’ll be surprised at what suggestions they might make — they can truly improve the quality and look of your video.
