Elgethun Capital Management (ECM), was founded in 2003 by Terry Elgethun. John Barker partnered with Terry in 2011 and purchased the company in 2012. We are an SEC-Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) with over $1 billion in assets under management and advisement, as of December 31, 2022.
We believe clients’ interests are best served by an independent, fee-only (no commissions), fiduciary investment manager. We are legally-required to put our clients' interest ahead of our own. Our goal is to promote transparency regarding performance, fees, and risk. Since inception, we have retained over 95% of our clients.
We manage assets for high-net worth investors, executives, business owners, and institutions, including: 401(K) plans and pensions, foundations, endowments, banks, trust companies, investment advisors, and corporations. We are the largest independent advisor in South Dakota and manage assets for clients in over 25 states.
