Delivered UI updates, JavaScript SDK, marketing page - this was critical path work to landing our first customers.

ThisDot is always fantastically responsive and clear about whether they will be able to hit a goal or not. We really appreciate their commitment to communication.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

ThisDot has really good developer tools expertise, which is rare in agencies. It's common to find places that are excellent at web development, but true understanding of how to make tools for developers is hard to find. I also really appreciate their commitment to community participation, and all the opportunities they have given us to be in that space.

Are there any areas for improvement or something This Dot could have done differently?

We've honestly had all-around good results.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

At the end of the initial engagement, we had a prototype that clearly demonstrated the product vision that worked well across Oculus Go, HoloLens 2, Meta Quest 2, and other XR devices. We had a clear inventory of how much ongoing effort it would take to deploy and maintain application code to these disparate platforms with high rigor around performance to maximize XR session times. We even had the beginning functionality for authentication, commerce, and static content creation so we could keep iterating by ourselves after the initial engagement.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I had a demo I was able to show potential customers and advisers, which focused the feedback and lowered perceived risk.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

We did 1 week iterations, demoing every week. Across the 12 weeks, demonstrations of new functionality were shown 10 of the weeks. I would give feedback about look/feel, creating issues in GitHub. We did a 30 minute planning/backlog meeting every Monday to align understanding and expectations. They met and exceeded the goals of the SOW, allowing for monetization feature scope to be deployed months earlier than I originally planned.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The supplier diversity program, allowing me to request developers from underrepresented minorities; and, the ability to hire said junior engineers at the end of the contract. The mentoring of junior developers by This Dot, their ability to come up to speed while delivering value, and then the team having the flexibility to transition junior developers to full-time hires was excellent.

Are there any areas for improvement or something This Dot could have done differently?

XR development is equipment intensive, and it would have been helpful for This Dot to manage the shipping and disbursement of the equipment to the developers. That said, it was 1 trip to the FedEx store for us, and not a real problem.
