DigitalDesign.NYC we've seen their work with Sqrl and Brick & Portal, and knew they had de design chops and good taste we needed to build this deck.

We wanted to go beyond a simple keynote presentation. So we built a fully interactive Investment Pitch Deck. It lived online and as a build for offline presentations. It presented our data through animated and interactive graphs, as well as video.

4 in total, including the founder. As far as their roles go I don't remember well since they had very flexible roles, which was quite refreshing to be honest.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We got our deliverables, and killed it with the pitch deck. We ended up having an attractive acquisition proposal from one of the investors we pitched. So yes, they're help overdelivered.

As stated earlier, roles were flexible. Everybody had enough domain expertise to float through the roles. That doesn't imply they weren't disciplined or unprofessional. Quite the contrary, the founder, who supervised and coordinated the project was very stern and supremely deadline oriented.

Their good taste. It's hard to come by with a company that can honestly boast that.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
I would say, their intense level of commitment could use a bit of heads up. At one point you do feel you work for them since they are so invested in the project.

I discussed my needs to add some material to my site, in order to showcase my new book. Anjelika was very responsive, creating a bullet point task page and timeline. She worked quickly and efficiently with a great eye for balance, design and color. She created tabs to make the site more user friendly for the reader. We communicated by email and she always responded promptly.

I worked directly with Anjelika via email. Even though she is in New York and I am in California, we were able to cooperate and collaborate in a timely manner. When some edits needed to be made, she was very responsive and adapted the forms to meet my vision.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We just finished this project but I expect this new design to make my site more accessible and I expect it to increase flow and traffic toward marketing my material. Personally, I feel more relaxed and confident being able to promote a polished looking site to customers.

I gave DigitalDesign.NYC about 15 bullet points on what I wanted to achieve. They created a logo and worked on brand identity. Anjelika (Founder) specifically came up with the design and brand new logo for us that is airline-related, with an airplane going up in the air. They also did development and design work for our website as well.

I work specifically with Anjelika, Stephen (UI/UX Designer), and one other person.

I met someone who knew Anjelika and that’s how this all started. I’m a serial entrepreneur, so I have a bunch of businesses and with one of the companies that I purchased, Anjelika had actually created the website. I liked the website and wanted to get my other company revamped.

Anjelika is always very reachable. For example, if something came up today and I needed edits or something, I’d have them this afternoon or evening. It’s not going to be a week. Meeting deadlines is extremely important and that is something I think they excel in. They’re really running a tight ship and are really on it.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re able to understand what we’re looking for and deliver on that. My descriptions were very vague and they were still able to really nail it. The team is also very economical. They’re willing to make little changes without killing us on the price, which is huge because I’ve had companies that make small changes and then we get a $500 or $1,000 bill.

No, I can’t think of anything.

At the time that I reached out to Digital Design, I was formally launching my business to give myself a public identity and subsequently do some outreach to get clients.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They created a presentation website that showcased me and my portfolio of work as well as contact information. In that sense, it was a relatively simple site, and I wanted something minimal.
I did have certain expectations with the aesthetics. I’m based in Europe, so my clientele is mostly Europeans. As a result, I wanted a website that had a Berlin vibe or something that was similar to a lot of other techno websites.
I gave Digital Design some references and had a dialogue with the person in charge of the design. We spoke on the phone, and they created a visual idea of the site, sending me a couple of options. I gave my preferences, and then the final product came out.
What is the team composition?
I was in regular contact with Digital Design’s CEO and founder. I also communicated my concerns with Amanda (Design Director), who oversaw the creation of the site.
How did you come to work with DigitalDesign.NYC?
I searched for someone to create a website by referencing people. I reached out to Digital Design and got in touch with their founder, who I met in college. They proposed their services, and I decided it was the best way for me to go about setting up my business.
How much have you invested with them?
I spent around $10,000–$12,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from January–March 2019, but I’m always able to reach out to them if I want any updates.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Digital Design produced something that effectively met my expectations and made a difference in the way they presented the site’s aesthetics. I’m proud to present my website, and this is something that I consistently do.
I was also pleasantly surprised that I attained clients who reached out to me merely because they saw my website. We didn’t have any link through a colleague or reference — they were completely anonymous, so to speak. This happened to me on three occasions, and they were decently sized contracts. I couldn’t have planned or expected them in advance.
I didn’t have the aesthetic vision that Digital Design had, so when they produced what I was looking for, I was more than satisfied.
How did DigitalDesign.NYC perform from a project management standpoint?
Everything went well, and they did everything that I requested in a timely manner. They were attentive, and they answered quickly — that was priceless.
I also have regular access to them even after creating the website to get some advice concerning marketing or any big or small questions. I’d recommend them to anyone who wants to create a platform or need some advice with branding.

The price of their services was competitive, and their accessibility was something I appreciated. I might have known their CEO personally, but I didn’t take that for granted — I also appreciated it. What was the scope of their involvement?
The project has different stages.
The first stage was the creation of the branding and logo. After comparing ideas, they created the website. They did both the design and development.
To increase our appearance in search engines, they’re doing all of my SEO and optimizing the site. They used innovative approaches like using a different technology for the backend to get more hits on search engines.
We’re starting to work on an app for users looking for someone to cook for them during COVID-19 times. PPC is also something that we will be working with them on.
Because of the upcoming app, we need to decide together how we want to do the SEO for the app and site and how everything will link. It’s a bit complex because it will be two different companies.
What is the team composition?
The CEO was the key person I was talking to. She helped with a lot of the branding before transferring the information to a technician. It’s a team of 20, and I’ve worked with a few people.

We were in between in-house developers, and Angelika and her team did a good job of helping us bridge the gap. They stepped in and helped to spec out and build new features. They did a good job of stepping into an existing codebase, while both maintaining and adding new features to our platform.

Our requested features were built and continue to run well. The requested upgrades and maintenance was performed smoothly.

Helpful, were very responsive over Slack and available to my questions and requests. Were happy to jump on calls or also work through chat as required for the situation.

I haven't worked with them for a full-time engagement, but for part-time assistance it was a great fit.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the CEO and founder of a niche comedy platform where we market comedians to give insights to live shows.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Digital Design NYC?
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, we've gone in a new direction. We're having podcasts and virtual shows that can be viewed on an app. I don't have a background in computer engineering myself, so I hired Digital Design to develop our mobile app and website platform.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They built our website and are developing our mobile app for iOS and Android platforms. Users can follow their favorite comedians through this app and get notified when their favorites are in town. If I had to compare it to another app, it would be a Spotify-meets-IMDB type of app. It's a database specifically for standup comedy and bands in town.
We’ve built comedian profiles that give them the opportunity to market themselves by putting up their biography, pictures, and videos. There are also links to their social media profiles that can be clicked on to view their tour dates. They’re all interlinkable with other shows.
We also have a show page where users can view all live shows happening around their area. They can also see those shows through our live map page, which they can set up by radius. We started out in New York, but now we're going national, so comedians can list shows across the country.
Angelica (Founder) has also been working to raise my SEO performance. I’ve leaned on her opinions while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s put me in touch with her resources. She’s also been helping me in marketing and everything else that comes with building an app and having a business.
What is the team composition?
I've had a couple of their developers come on the project. Right now, I'm on the third developer. Digital Design has an international staff, and some people had to go to their home countries after COVID-19 hit, so we’ve had to shuffle a little bit.
How did you come to work with Digital Design NYC?
I was still in grad school at the time, and I happened to be going to a career fair. I was just looking, and Digital Design happened to be there, too. I had an idea in mind and got in touch with the person they had there, which eventually put me in touch with Angelica. We had a meeting and went on from there.
How much have you invested with them?
So far, we’ve invested around $250,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our contract with them was signed in May 2019, and the engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We've grown in size and have been able to put on comedy shows. Our social media presence has also grown. We're building out the new features available on the app, and we're going for live video shows that can be featured on the app.
That's been the success in where we're going, but no financial metrics are available as of right now. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had a hiatus when not much was going on. We're still navigating that.
How did Digital Design NYC perform from a project management standpoint?
Digital Design performed very well. They get back to me, and they’ve been very responsive. When we first started working, I was able to come to their office. Because I live in the same state and not too far from where their offices are, we're able to work together and have weekly meetings. They show me our progress, and they've been very hands-on.
The team uses Trello and other tools. I'm not the most organized person myself, so I like the old fashioned phone call. That's how I work, but they do have other communication tools that are available to use.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The Digital Design team is very creative, and their adaptability is most impressive. They’re not like a corporation. They're more of a private company that bends to me a little bit. They'll offer suggestions on the way they can do things, but at the end of the day, they'll adapt to my vision. Even with navigating covid, they’re very accommodating, going above and beyond just being developers.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there’s not necessarily anything I would’ve changed, because I couldn't really anticipate everything that was going to happen. We're moving in the right direction. I wish we could have anticipated things better since we just got started with virtual comedy podcasting. But, no one could really anticipate that this was going to happen and be sustained for so long.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Potential customers should set up an initial meeting and make sure they have the same vision going forward. They should set up their goals on where they want to be in the upcoming months.

DD.NYC®’s work has resulted in our website and packaging designs. Although the project is still in progress, we expect to see measurable results in sales from the packaging and website design by the end of the year.

Project management had been rocky due to inconsistent communication and project delays. However, Anjelika had rectified the issues in a timely fashion by setting up a timeline for the project that both parties agreed upon. As time went on, project management drastically improved.
