BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am lead system engineer at public utility company. We have around 110 employees.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Datatek doo Beograd?

We had outdated datacenter with independent servers that caused our data being very vulnerable and the whole system very slow and even unavailable during some operation peaks. We needed storage solution that will make our datacenter highly available and our data secured. And a solution that will not cost a fortune.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We talked about our need with a couple of IT companies in the area, that we had a contact with from previous IT procurements. Later on we as a public company organized public procurement with detailed description of our needs. Datatek suggested very smart and the most cost-effective solution for our datacenter.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

The whole project consisted of hyper-converged storage solution: DataCore VSAN on 2 Fujitsu server nodes with Microsoft Hyper-V Failover Cluster. Networking and security part was performed with Fortinet and Allied Telesis solutions. The first phase included new system design with detailed schemes and descriptions.

After we approved it, especially parts with backup plan and security configuration, preparation faze started. We planned together how to minimize system downtime and arrange it after our working hours. In the implementation phase Datatek combined on site installation and remote configuration with knowledge transfer during the whole process. After finishing the project, we continued with managed services and support agreement.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Our main contact was account manager but the design and implementation team consisted of their lead system engineer and 3 more system and network specialists.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

As results of this project we now have very scalable and highly available datacenter with more capacity and performance that on the other hand utilized all the existing hardware that we had had. The project also dramatically improved the security of our data.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

All the communication went smoothly and the whole workflow was very effective.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their engineers are so devoted to finding the best possible solution for our project. They act as if our challenges are their own ones. They are also very patient and calm while solving incident situations.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Having in mind all the circumstances and limitations, everything was done in the best possible way.
