I’m the founder and CEO of a food delivery service in Lagos, Nigeria. We produce and deliver party foods.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Check DC?

We were looking for a provider that could build a good-quality and easy-to-use platform. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Check DC is designing and developing the frontend of our new website. They sent us a questionnaire to start out the conversation on the brand direction. It asked specific questions about my industry, color preferences, and brand preferences. They gave me a sketch for a prototype a couple of hours later and have since been building the site in JavaScript and a few PHP frameworks.

What is the team composition?

I’m directly in contact with three people from Check DC: a project manager, a development lead, and a business manager.

How did you come to work with Check DC?

The first time I worked with Check DC was when they designed my logo five years ago. They came up with the concept and the brand story. I came across them again when I was about to redo my website. They had an impressive portfolio and responded fast, so I went for it.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost of this project has been around $5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The initial discussions took off in January 2020, and the project started in February. It’s still ongoing, which is largely my fault. I keep making changes to it.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s rare to see people in Lagos who make design a focus. Most come from a tech angle and approach a project thinking about how difficult a functionality would be to implement. Check DC has an approach that favors design and makes all the concepts stand out. In addition, if we want something done, they’ll get it done. That gives them an edge, in my opinion.

How did Check DC perform from a project management standpoint?

I would have to say that it’s fair. It could be better, but it’s not bad. I get weekly updates on the project, but there are times when communication is lacking either due to delayed deliverables or just a lack of updates. I don’t use any project management software on my end. I just send them emails to ask for updates.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate their design-centered thinking. It’s very important to me that, beyond the functionality of the website, the UI looks awesome as well. Their designs are always really good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything’s great when things are going according to plan, but they’re sometimes lacking when it comes to communicating delayed deliverables.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Clients should come with a simple concept of what they want to accomplish and let Check DC do the rest. It’s also important to have constant communication with them.
