BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the owner and creative director of a full-service multimedia production company called Prismic Studios.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Camp Pixel?

I initially hired Camp Pixel to create the logo for my studio.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Camp Pixel made my studio’s logo and logos for several of my published video games. Their team also created graphics for the games. For our latest video game, they also designed the UI and animations. Derek (Creative Director & CEO) also consulted a number of artistic choices such as color.

Currently, we’re collaborating on new projects. Any project that’s especially important, I’ll go through Derek.

What is the team composition?

I mostly work with Derek, but I also communicate with another teammate who manages the business aspects of the partnership.

How did you come to work with Camp Pixel?

Derek and I actually grew up together. When I started my business, Derek was starting his.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent roughly $10,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2011, and ever since then, I’ve probably hired them to work on 1–2 projects a year.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’m really happy with Camp Pixel’s work. If I can’t perfectly handle a task, I engage them. They’re an augmentation, and it’s successful as far as I’m concerned.

Derek’s a talented artist. As an artist, I tend to over-decorate, and that’s why I like to hire Derek. He’s a master of simplicity.

How did Camp Pixel perform from a project management standpoint?

During larger projects, we share a Dropbox folder where they drop their deliverables. They label the 3D models correctly. Camp Pixel helps my business to stay organized. They have a rigid project structure that I’ve basically adopted. In terms of project management, Derek’s the best partner I’ve had.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their artistic vision and workmanship distinguish them from other providers. Their project management and customer service are also great. As far as the quality of the art, Camp Pixel’s masterful at perfectionism and precision. Derek’s architecture qualifications come through in his art, and that’s exactly what I lack as an artist.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think that they could improve on anything in particular. I’m happy, and we have a respectful partnership. If Camp Pixel needs to improve, those improvements are beyond my skill to advise on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s important to trust Camp Pixel’s knowledge. I would hire them for any project that requires organization and perfection. For example, I might not engage them to create a grotesque monster because that’s not their style.
