I'm the Director of Marketing at CarHub Auto Group, which contains both franchised and used car lots. I manage all aspects of the company's marketing and branding initiatives for all locations.

For what projects/services did your company hire BrandLume ?

We were looking for a branding and marketing company to create a national brand that goes above and beyond the local franchised dealership real and delivers the same promises regardless of location or franchise. We were also looking for a marketing company to help us with marketing this brand on all channels once created.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to go from a local to a national brand (starting with creating an auto group name and a solid brand identity), increase sales in all departments via SEO, SEM, SMM, and brand awareness. Increase retention and customer loyalty and improve ROI of marketing channels across the board.

How did you select this vendor?

We initially started looking at specialized branding and marketing companies separately as they are usually separate from one another. Looked at both US and Canadian companies and the search was very extensive, with 6 or so potential agencies on both fronts that were approached out of a ~80 researched. We looked at many factors during the research, like previous work examples, tone/personality of the company, reviews, depth, and services covered under marketing, ease of doing business with, pricing and accessibility of each company.

We were very skeptical about a company that does both branding and marketing, as Brandlume was really the only one who did both extensively in their portfolio. But many factors made the decision of going with them simple, after going through the information provided from all the candidates. Here are few pointers that were important: It took them 2 days to provide full branding and marketing proposals—some others took 3-4 weeks. The cost of branding project and then marketing management was about one-third of others, and had no 12 month contracts or huge setup fees. They were much more approachable and easier to get a hold of than most others, and we didn't feel like being sold to during the decision making. We were given dedicated project managers on both branding and marketing initiatives. They had extensive portfolio that showed better ROI when considering cost of management vs. other candidates (some had similar results but 2-3 times higher costs). They had expertise in Automotive industry and were located in Toronto.

I was/am the lead on both the branding and marketing projects. There were multiple in-person and webinar meetings between the two companies to ensure that all inputs and important KPIs are captured on both fronts. BrandLume was responsible for all aspects of the branding, strategy, and marketing channels to tackle in every format: SEO (content creation, guest posts, blog posts, link building, PR,), SEM (Google, Facebook, Bing, remarketing, display ads), SMM (post creation, engagement, followers, promotions).

What was the team composition?

The project managers, along with department managers, (SEO, SEM managers) were very proactive (still are) and always provided options with outcomes for most decisions, which made decision making much easier. Six of our internal team, including myself, work closely with one project manager at this point, who manages all of our campaigns and initiatives with Brandlume's different departments (SEO, SEM, Social, Website Dev, Design). We were working with three employees from their side during the CarHub Brand design, strategic planning, and development.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

For Branding: We now have a solid, well-defined brand "CarHub" with visuals and standardized promises that have substantially increased brand recognition, consumer trust, and lead to sale conversions. For Marketing: There are countless amazing stats for each channel, but to keep it simple: They have increased our sales by over 30% YoY for 3 years in a row for each location. Put us on the first page of Google for many competitive keywords, lowered our CPC by 60%, increase site visits by 950%( in 3 years), increased visit to lead conversion from 1.3 to 8.2%. In short, we owe our exponential growth to BrandLume. We never imagined such rapid growth and couldn't have asked for a better partner.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We've been working with BrandLume and utilizing their various services for over four years now, and I can comfortably say that I have yet to work with any other vendor that makes dealing with them this easy. They have been very consistent with delivering reports, proactively improving things, and bringing suggestions to our attention month after month.

Getting a hold of someone has never been an issue. They use a dynamic meeting scheduler where we can book a time that works for us whenever necessary, and they are also available via phone for more immediate needs. We truly see them as a partner and not another vendor. And we trust their advice. They have personalized many aspects of our relationship and are very receptive to feedback, to the point that it feels like our dedicated project manager is part of our internal team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We have been blown away with the consistent level of professionalism displayed by BrandLume. I'd say what's most unique about them is how they don't ever try to sell us anything, but patiently educate and help us make an informed decision with case studies and later ROI reports that prove the success of their ideas. You always know what you will pay as their service costs are standardized which I personally love. They have no long-term contracts so they actually work on our accounts and provide consistent reporting, status and customer services. Overall, you really feel like you are getting what you pay for, which is not the case with other vendors we have and currently work with. Truth be told, we make a whole lot more than they cost, which is much more than what we used to produce when we had an internal marketing team doing it all.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There are always little things that come up during any relationship. Be it with a vendor or an internal employee. and it's how either side works through it. They have been nothing but patient and responsive at such times and we have always worked something out. Some services used to take longer than expected to be delivered, especially if we made changed mid-way, but they have fixed most of that now.

While we weren’t able to take advantage of all of their services, they were consistently communicative about the status of our site and offered us many ways to improve it. Would definitely work with the Brandlume team again should our needs change in the future.
