Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm Ronak Patel, Founder and CEO of Root On Immigration Consultants Inc and we provide Immigration Services to students, working professionals and families to migrate to Canada. We are based in Montreal, Canada and also operate in three locations across India.

For what projects/services did your company hire Blobstation, and what were your goals?

We help international students shortlist programs from colleges and universities that they would like to study in Canada. Also, we work with partners that also share student profiles and would like to shortlist programs.

Previously, the process was completely manual where we would shortlist programs based on the student profile and mail to our students/ partners.

We hired BlobStation to provide a minimal web based solution that would contain the list of programs categorized by attributes such as tuition fees, program length, credentials, language requirements, etc. and which would allow our clients to filter programs on their own without our intervention. The application was completed web-based, light and programmed in Angular and Node.js framework.

How did you select Blobstation and what were the deciding factors?

We found Blobstation through a company CEO referral. Our criteria for assessment was someone who could deliver results on time as this was a very time sensitive project.

Moreover, we also wanted someone who had a web designer on team who could design a minimal, functional and engaging product, easy for clients to use. We also asked in a couple of technical questions to test if they could provide long term permanent solutions and after all, we selected them.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Scope of work: Deliver a web based portal for Students as well as Agency login. It must have features such as the Student Profile, Programs section, Schools, Applications as well as the documents section. Moreover, a typical use should be able to shortlist programs and save in his profile.

Admin should be able to add all the schools as well as programs. We should be able to update programs to the database as well as perform all the crud operations without compromising the existing data. The technologies use were Angular, NodeJS and Amazon S3 to save the data.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

There were 5 teams members I worked with. The Technical Lead, UI/UX Designer, Front-end and the Back end developer and also the QA analyst.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The project went live within 2 months which ideally would have taken longer, thanks to the alternative solutions provided by the TL. The implementation of Elastic search to search through the programs database has helped us to have search results in less than 1 second. The application is well designed and responsive. Also, the application loads quickly.

We had a feature discovery meeting, once or two per week depending on the feature. Besides, we had a regular daily stand ups with their team for around 15-25 minutes.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was impressed by their ability to deliver solid results on time while accommodating a few major change requests.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The QA process could be implemented in parallel with the feature implementation so less time could have been spent in testing and going back and forth.
