After careful consideration and receiving all the documents from BandaPixels including Statement of Work, Project Charter, we agreed to continue with the suggested solution. Each stage was described and managed, communication went smoothly.

• The first version of the revamp was launched and it met all my requirements. Moreover, the quality of the delivered code is phenomenal!

We needed to develop a backend for the streaming platform MVP. Frontend development was handled internally, but we needed really experienced and knowledgeable people to cope with the back-end code. The goal was to build a solid and safe backend, for the platform to easily host multiple online events with lots of users. The platform being on the MVP stage, the backend was of the highest importance. Apart from this, the goal was to fit into the tight release schedule.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We looked for a service provider in multiple channels for quite some time, as we had a specific set of requirements that many candidates didn’t fit. With BandaPixels everything was fast and professional. We signed the contract the next day after we started communicating. In one day, we conducted two interviews with the developer and, in the meantime, we discussed contract and cooperation conditions with the team manager. On the next day, both parties signed the contract and we started the onboarding phase.

The main steps of the platform development were set up, development itself, MVP release, post-MVP features. The developer also did some DevOps work at the beginning, but then we hired a different DevOps, not to overload the developer with other tasks. Apart from that, the developer from BandaPixels became a team lead of the backend team after 2 months of work. He managed the process, did code reviews. etc. The deliverable was a fully functioning, scalable backend. The main technologies were Node. js, AWS, Typescript, TypeORM, etc.

One back-end developer, who also worked as a team lead of the back-end team, and a manager, did invoices and solved some cooperation issues. On our side, we had a project manager, front-end team, and, later on, 2 backed developers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We now have a working MVP that gains its first users worldwide. We are happy with the quality of the code and with the fact that the MVP development fitted into our rigid timeframes.

The general project management was arranged on our side. However, BandaPixels had its own manager assigned to the project responsible for efficient communication, problem-solving, and paperwork. The team is very responsive and quick to solve any issues that arise during the project. As mentioned above, the project was completed on time.

How involved and indifferent the team is. Over time, when needed to ensure timely release, release support (once a developer had to work the whole weekend during the release), immediate fixes, and answers (even in non-working hours). BandaPixels often exceeded our expectations.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Nothing like that occurs to me now. We would probably wish BandaPixels to grow in size and to have more specialists whose services we can buy in the future.

Typically we created first one page based on the delivered brand guide, logos and fonts. After we're happy about the general concept, we will work out the pages and fine-tune them further with the feedback of our customer and software developers.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I can't share any outcome yet, but the attractive designs of BandaPixels definitely will help us to win more projects in the future.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We typically did a couple of Skype calls every week. Furthermore I was able to give comments in Figma that were picked up directly by the UI designer. For small changes, the UI designer was very responsive, so we could present them directly to our customer.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

There never has been a long waiting time. Within a few days, they were always to start on the next job or task. The UI design always has been looking very modern and beautiful.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Sometimes it's a bit harder for them to understand the flow of the application due to the complexity.

We googled for developers who had very good knowledge of scalable applications and mastered the programming languages node.js with typescript. Bandapixels was able to show us these skills

We needed Bandapixels, LLC to help us with various web development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bandapixels, LLC developed a  web application prototype to test the functionality and high-level usability of our ideas. They developed potential features, such as upload and download options. 

The website was set up as a portal for teachers to upload and download documents. They added an upload option and a bunch of UI setups that have been integrated into MongoDB for the backend. We’ve also used Google Cloud for cloud support. It was mainly frontend development and setting up the pipeline for integration within the front- and backend work. We primarily used React as the main language, and HTML and CSS for the UI.

They contacted us through Upwork and bid on the job. Many candidates were interested in our job offer. However, after looking through their estimations, strategies, the way they were planning to address the job, and how professional they seemed when they approached us, we decided to choose Bandapixels, LLC.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We now have the best platform for testing. This project was done from scratch, and there were no metrics to begin with. We built it with the goal of testing it, to see if it was even feasible. My company is currently doing functionality testing to know whether the product will be useful to our target audience.

How did Bandapixels, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

We initially communicated on Upwork, and then we had conversations on Slack. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Bandapixels, LLC showed a lot of professionalism. They involved a couple of senior staff members in planning and scheduling. We don’t have many metrics on the work itself, but the conversations with their senior staff helped. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re definitely on the high end in terms of technology and budgeting — they’re shooting for a lot. For the most part, they seemed to be doing overestimations, which is one of the reasons I had to stop our contract and find a different provider. That is something they could work on.

Any advice for potential customers?

Before going to them, try to have everything written down. You cannot change your specs in the middle of the process. Be sure to have a good understanding of what they’re doing. Also, read the contract; once you start, you can’t change it.

I’m the founder of a development company. We work for multiple startup internet projects. Currently, we’re only helping them with development services, as we’re not live yet.

We were trying to increase our web development capacity. Sometimes, it’s hard to find the right people, so we looked for developers abroad and found Bandapixels.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bandapixels helps us with the frontend development for our projects. We are currently working on three projects, and two of them are being supported by their developers.

For every project, we create designs and concepts. Then, we provide Bandapixels with the designs and the information about the project such as what we are trying to do and what is our aim. They immediately dive in and start with the development.

They use WebStorm for frontend development, and we use InVision and Figma for designs. We also use BrowserStack for multiple device development.

What is the team composition?

We work with two of Bandapixels’ developers. Their company does the invoicing, but all the communication is with the developers directly.

How did you come to work with Bandapixels, LLC?

I used Upwork to search for developers. We took 30–40 assessments from a lot of people, and one of them was a developer from Bandapixels. We took their assessment and liked what they did. We got to talk a little bit and decided to hire this person.

After some time, we told this person we needed another developer, and they recommended one of their teammates. Maybe in the future, we will need another team member from them.

How much have you invested with them?

They charge us close to $5,000 a month. So far, we’ve spent around $25,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I don’t have concrete metrics for Bandapixels developers’ performance. We just check the quality of their work and see if the designs are implemented correctly.

Bandapixels developers are good at their job. One developer is more accurate and the other is more technical.

How did Bandapixels, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

We use YouTrack by JetBrains for tracking tickets and project management. It’s a tool similar to Jira. We also use Slack for communication, where we provide them with screenshots and videos about what we need.

For our own developers, we have KPI and hold refinement sessions every week. We also assign points to tasks, and they have to complete a determined amount of points per week. With Bandapixels’ team, I haven’t implemented this system yet, but I’m thinking about implementing it in the future.

Sometimes, we have Skype video calls with the person who does the invoicing whenever we have to resolve a question.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Communication with Bandapixels has been really nice. I have the developers working in my office, and Bandapixels only comes into the picture for the invoicing.

I’ve worked with other offshore development companies, and the most difficult aspect was that the developers couldn’t speak English. Whenever I needed something, I had to go through a non-technical manager, and my message got lost in the translation. Bandapixels developers are fluent English speakers. With them, I haven’t experienced any similar issues.

Are there any areas they could improve?

One of the developers is sometimes a little bit less accurate at their job, and that could be improved. I’m willing to work with them on that because I know they can be accurate. I believe they want to be very quick with deploying their work. Nobody is perfect, and there is always room for improvement.

Any advice for potential customers?

Bandapixels is a good company. They don’t do anything beyond the usual or try to charge you more than they should. It’s all pretty fair, so go for it.

It was a full-cycle project that included initiation, planning, designing, and development. In the beginning, we had about three calls with the PM to discuss my ideas, and she prepared the documentation based on that. Then they started wireframing. In that phase, they implemented all the logic, user-flows, etc. Then UI design started along with the back-end development. After approving the UI they started front-end.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The application and Admin Panel were delivered on time, and the quality of their work was very good.

I communicated with the project manager via Whatsapp and email, who was always very responsive. We had weekly demos to check on the progress. The project manager was in constant contact so I was always aware of the progress as well any hiccups which needed to be addressed asap.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I think the team, though very young have very good expertise. They were friendly, professional and courteous. Everything was great, but I’d especially like to highlight their ability to adapt and solve problems, especially at short notices.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Bandapixels, LLC could have done differently?

In my experience with the project, I did notice one area that could have been improved: mobile responsiveness. It became apparent to me relatively late in the development process that this aspect had not been given the attention it deserved. However, I must commend the company for their swift and effective response once this issue was identified.

Despite the initial oversight, they managed to address the mobile responsiveness problem in a remarkably short period of time. Their dedication and ability to rectify the situation promptly demonstrated their commitment to delivering a high-quality product.
