What challenge were you trying to address with Cut2Code?

I hire freelance or contractor assistance to help with projects. After talking with Cut2Code, they had more polished development processes for bringing a website to life. I needed to decrease my workload and tap into their expertise.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cut2Code developed a WordPress website for one of my clients. It was a big project that they started from scratch. We handed over a blank WordPress account and an idea of what the design should be, and they brought it to life.

The team built a great mega menu, which I didn’t have much experience with. They did a really good job of implementing advanced custom fields. That meant the client didn’t need to go into a page builder to edit things, which made the client’s experience really easy.

Tomasz actually reached out to me right around when COVID-19 began. He gave us a list of their services and asked to set up a call with me. After talking things over with them, the things that stood out to me that made them an easy choice were their extremely competitive hourly rate and high-quality work. Their team structure also made it really easy; for the most part, I talked to Thomasz, and then they had one developer executing the whole thing. That made it easy to circle back, have questions answered, and have the overall process go really smoothly.

This project began in July 2019, and they were able to finish pretty quickly, by August of that year.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The client absolutely loved what Cut2Code put together. They even went above and beyond for a few things; for instance, the design file we’d sent them was completely static, so they added in a series of additional animations. That left an awesome impression on myself and on the client that was ultimately receiving the website.

How did Cut2Code perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Google Docs and email to communicate. Another piece that stood out to me was their ability to make sure we had communication every morning my time to touch base on progress. We have a pretty big time gap, so my morning is their late evening, but they made sure we communicated every day throughout the project. We were working on the project simultaneously, so it was a bit tricky to balance, but they did an awesome job of updating me every day and keeping in touch.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their reliability stood out. I needed to set a pretty fast pace to get through the project, and they were able to make that happen. Also, they set proper expectations. If they were concerned about making something happen or I didn’t clarify something, they always followed up to ensure the expectations were set.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think so. They did a great job.

Any advice for potential customers?

I was just really impressed with how they were able to get information out of me that I wasn’t necessarily clarifying right away. It’s easy to contact them and let them know what you need, and then they really take it from there. They ensure that everything gets executed the right way.

I'm a founder and the CEO of Safely, a real estate management and automation platform based in Tartu, Estonia.

We had customers who were looking for a technical solution for operating rental buildings. The businesses were different but the problem was similar, so we started looking for a development partner to help us try to solve the business cases.

We were referred to Cut2Code by a former colleague. In the beginning we were looking to start small, to just visualize the idea and test the waters. Our own team has Ruby on Rails experience, so we wanted to work on a familiar stack.

We started with visual wireframes, drafts and presentations. Then moved to a simple proof of concept. After we got encouraging feedback from the customers we went to full architectural planning and development.

We have 3 Ruby on Rails developers, a QA person and a scrum-master. In the beginning we had some designers, but now the focus is on backend development.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have built a large management platform complete with legal automations to generate contracts, accounting system to distribute utility costs, documents library with QR code links and a task management with a calendar and a reminders system. I think the quality of the mockups and drafts was critical for communicating our proposed solution and for getting the customer buy-in. Currently we are in the development phase.Although the scope has grown a bit larger than we initially planned, we feel we have been moving ahead nicely.

We are using a cut2code inhouse system for project management and time logging. We have near real time overview of developers progress and costs accrual. We manage the project in 2 week sprints, it's a simple process, nothing to complain about.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Clarity. They communicate well, don't hide the things I might not like to hear and therefore I feel in control of the development progress and the budget.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

They have met all expectations.

I’m the CEO and co-founder of a startup called Livespace.io, a sales CRM platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with Cut2Code?

Since we’re an online company, the look and feel of our website is crucial to earning conversions. We wanted to update the site and rebuild it from the ground up and needed an agency that could take the designs we did internally and implement them. We had a website on WordPress and the goal was to implement a new design.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We did our own designs and Cut2Code implemented them onto the old WordPress platform in English, Polish, and Russian. They also provided feedback on our designs and optimized our site to make it faster. After the site launched, they continued to make tweaks as well.

I worked with two people from the customer side. There were a few developers on their side also that I didn’t have contact with directly.

We started working together in March 2019 and wrapped up the project in June 2020. We’re still working with them on another project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They made our site 30–50% faster, which was very important for our SEO. They were also able to improve our conversion rate.

How did Cut2Code perform from a project management standpoint?

They managed the project well and met all of our timelines. Everything was really professional. We had regular calls and communicated on Slack. People from our team also had the opportunity to work with them to ensure a smooth collaboration.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The price was competitive and the quality of their portfolio stood out compared to other companies we considered. They pay attention to detail and deliver good quality code.

There’s nothing that comes to mind. There were times things maybe could go faster, but that was very minor.

Be specific about what you want and set dates. For us, the important thing was that we had everything ready for the design.

We engaged Cut2Code for multiple web projects, including a website redesign and multiple web app templating projects which helped us onboard customers faster.

We decided to work with Cut2Code after they worked on a sample project for us and knocked it out of the park with quality and communication. Communication is key with their account manager; Tomasz and the team ask the right questions to get the job done correctly the first time. If any issues arise, they are quickly addressed and the team ensures we are happy with the results.

First, we worked on a website redesign project where I provided the graphics and requirements of a designer. That project was build in HTML5, JS, CSS, and PHP (WordPress Stack). We then engaged Cut2Code again for our customer onboarding needs. After a kickoff call, I prepared a creative brief and documentation for how to template and skin our web app customer tools. This was HTML5, JS, CSS (React Stack).

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Increased performance and decreased load time for our homepage which was a great win. Cut2Code allowed us to focus on core engineering while they assisted us in templating other web apps for new customers.

Zoom meetings are very beneficial for alignment. Trello was used for agile development.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Communication skills and their quality of development/code.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Consider using other enterprise tools like JIRA for more complex web projects where Trello is a bit too simple (multiple environments in development cycle, linking dependencies, handling release cycles). This requires buy-in from both sides of course but this would be a personal ask for their team from us.

Our clients were satisfied with the quality of the websites, both their speed and aesthetics. We collaborate with SEO agencies that find Cut2Code’s work impressive. Their team built the websites to work well for Google and users.

When I send a request, they follow up regularly to make sure their production schedule’s prepared to meet my needs. They touched base every day during the projects. Their team provided feedback and communicated when they needed additional assets. If there were delays, they honestly communicated them and provided solutions.

Their team provides professional services and top-notch code. We’ve been validated on many levels about the quality of their code. I also know that someone on their team will respond when I email them. I’m never left in the dark.

No, nothing comes to mind.

Be upfront about the design, but we haven’t used their design services. If you need those services, talk to them. From a programming perspective, they’re great.

Over the course of the past two years, we’ve reached out to them with a wide range of web development tasks. Some of them included coding frontend-only websites from scratch, but much more often they were tasked with coding full-blown WordPress websites based on the designs that we’ve prepared.

They have also been great partners in terms of website maintenance - they expertly handled even most demanding requests, fixes, changes and additions to be introduced on a third party code that was provided to them.

What was the team composition?

At all times, I have been in contact with a dedicated project manager who was always polite and responsive, engaged in every single project we’ve collaborated on.

Depending on the workload, my requests were handled by up to 3 or 4 developers at the same time, while always aiming to have the same ones assigned over and over again, as they learned to know my expectations and were able to adjust their coding practices to accommodate my needs.

This resulted in a collaboration where in many instances I did not even need to express my expectations fully to Cut2Code, as they knew what I’ve been expecting based on their experience.

From the very beginning of our relationship, I was working with the same project manager that handles all of my projects up and could not be more satisfied with the quality of his work - always very responsive and polite, well-informed and able to go the extra mile to ensure a successful project delivery.

Occasionally, due to their workload, I might wait a day or two before my project is launched. However, this happens rather rarely and isn’t something I could not deal with.

Leanpassion is a consulting company that conducts seminars and workshops on Lean corporate management. At the time, I was employed by them as a marketing manager.

We hired Cut2Code to code our new corporate website, based on the designs we provided. It offers (among other types of content) many blog entries sharing the news from the lean world, a lean glossary, several case studies of projects we have had in the past and an all-around introduction of our company and services to its users.

We wanted to keep a significant degree of freedom in the way we introduce content (including the modular approach that allowed us to easily move and duplicate sections between varying subpages) and aimed at preparing a wide variety of modules with different layouts needed for all types of content we were able to gather and create.

As the project was being developed we gradually understood our needs more and more, so many more modules were born later down the road, due to our descriptions and the solutions that C2C was suggesting. It has not been long since the implementation of our new website, but the positive feedback of our whole team in addition to good reviews and comments from our community has been overwhelming.
