full-service branding and creative agency
From the big picture to the smallest details, we deliver branding and marketing strategies and creative solutions that add value, increase revenue and enhance the customer experience.
We are an award-winning, woman-owned branding and creative agency based in New York City. Over the years, our work has received numerous design awards, has been published internationally in various books and magazines and showcased in exhibitions and lectures. We have been awarded several U.S. design and mechanical patents for displays and products.
We specialize in building brands, companies and organizations through creative design and strategic marketing across all forms of brand, media and retail communication.
We take an integrated and strategic approach to marketing communication, carefully creating brand interactions that clearly and honestly communicate the essence, personality and values of a brand. With the vast array of choices available, an increasingly overwhelmed consumer has more decisions to make each day and less time available to make them. Brands that are able to communicate who they are, what they stand for and what their products will deliver break through the clutter.
Anthony Melchiorri, co-creator and host of Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible, is an expert in the art of hospitality. Anthony knows that success is in the details and that subtle choices can make a big impression.
We developed brand identity and positioning that would translate his direct, honest style and commitment to excellence to products and packaging. The branding project included brand logo, brand statement, tag line, packaging design and guidelines, and signature patterns for use on products. The branding was extended to his website, anthonymelchiorri.com, where guests are invited to LIVE UP!
“Alternatives is best marketing company I have worked with—bar none. They have done my marketing, they have done my website, and now they are my go to marketing company on Hotel Impossible…”

essence cosmetics was launched in Europe in 2001 and quickly became the European leader in value beauty products. Based on the brand’s global success, essence was launched into the North American Market. Realizing that there were some challenges in penetrating the crowded US marketplace, Alternatives worked with essence to develop a communication strategy that would strongly resonate with young women, establish a unique position for the brand and build a platform for growth in North America. We conducted market research with young women in the US to further inform our strategy and approach.
The strategy was then rolled out into a comprehensive marketing plan including advertising, social media, in store graphics and coordination of product sampling in 24 cities around North America.

The IRS produces over 2,400 publications a year and creates numerous touchpoints across a wide range of internal and external programs. With the large number of materials, uses and challenging communication needs, a more defined and focused approach was required to increase the quality, functionality, efficiency and overall communication of all materials produced. “I have worked with Alternatives for almost 15 years on large established brands as well as smaller start-ups. They bring a unique combination of thoughtful strategic thinking founded in solid consumer insights together with no nonsense execution and blue chip New York City creative talent. They do this while also being mindful of costs and the bottom line. A truly rare combination in today’s world. The team at Alternatives has helped me build brands, create brands, and also roll up their sleeves to execute at various sponsored events and trade shows. They are a great partner that I turn to first when I have a creative challenge. I look forward to working with Alternatives for years to come.”
