I’m the owner of a garage door service business. We install and repair garage doors.

What challenge were you trying to address with 5 Dog Digital Marketing & Web Design of Mcallen?

We needed to develop a website and establish our online visibility in general, so we’re working with 5 Dog to help us on that front.

What was the scope of their involvement?

5 Dog has rebuilt and added pages to my website. They added content to reflect the reviews being left by customers on my Google profile, which the team is also managing for me. They’ve updated my pictures, location, and all other information that clients will see.

They also provide general SEO services relative to our physical location, help generate backlinks to the site, and are working to have our name rank higher in search results. We had multiple calls where I filled them in on terminology within my industry that they could use as part of their keyword strategy. 

What is the team composition?

My understanding is that they’re a growing company so in the future we would work with more people, but since I first started working with them, John (Owner) and I have been the only ones working together.

How did you come to work with 5 Dog Digital Marketing & Web Design of Mcallen?

I had worked with other companies that basically just took paychecks and didn’t really ever talk to me even though they claimed they would. I had a buddy who had a garage business as well and he had been using John’s services, so I thought I’d give 5 Dog a shot, too, and everything has just kind of grown from there.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve probably invested around $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership is ongoing and began around June 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re a service-based business, so we measure our success by how often our phone rings. We have a marketing software that tracks the number of calls by area, so we’ve seen that the number of incoming calls has dramatically and immediately picked up 3–4 weeks after I started working with 5 Dog. We’ve also checked in on how we’re ranking and we’ve seen that, through organic searches, we’re now on the second page of search results.

5 Dog is a very easygoing company. There’s a lot of pressure and hassle with bigger companies who constantly add something to charge more, but there’s none of that with 5 Dog. They just try to be awesome at what we’ve signed up to do, which I appreciate.

How did 5 Dog Digital Marketing & Web Design of Mcallen perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t meet on a daily basis. Our arrangement is me giving them the nuts and bolts and leaving them to put the pieces together. I’m not micromanaging every detail since I have very limited time to talk, and 5 Dog understands that. If there’s anything that needs to be fixed, they’re on it and they make a review of it to make sure nothing is missed. I get a response from him fairly quickly, often within minutes.

I have no complaints as far as their project management is concerned; they’ve exceeded my expectations on that. We’ve talked about building the website and we’ve set deadlines, which they almost always get ahead of. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

One thing I find impressive about 5 Dog is that they’re constantly looking for what’s new and what’s coming. They stay connected to what else is out there and shift the project to something better to improve the way we measure outcomes. 

Another impressive aspect of their service is that they’re straightforward and flexible. There’s no smoke and screens or staying limited to the kind of service package we’re using. As long as they’re working for me, they do well.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

One thing that I run into is that everybody tends to set a price. I understand that cheaper doesn’t always mean better, and I’m a new business so we’re all going to experience some growing pains as we move forward and get bigger. John has done a great job of giving me good value for my money, though, so I’m going to stick with him.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Step back and look at the whole picture. Don’t just focus on your website and SEO but consider your overall marketing, your total marketing budget, and where you want your percentages to be. Don’t opt for somebody else just because they’re cheaper, but commit to the idea that what you spend with John will also return to your business. 

Do your homework and push people to answer your questions about ranking, organic searches, and the like. A lot of big corporations will sign you up for an automatic credit charge, but with 5 Dog, you’re talking to the salesperson and at the same time the specialist, so there’s value in that.

We wanted to increase our income and try to stay afloat during the pandemic.

As I said before, 5 Dog Digital is very easy to work with. Our questions are always answered and any changes we like to be made are handled professionally and come out better than how we originally worded our advertisement!

Everything. Communication is outstanding. Our website is amazing and professional. They work very hard and have gone above and beyond for our every request.
