I work as a coordinator for Land Rights Now, a global campaign to secure land rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

For what projects/services did your company hire Yellow Cat Five?

We hired Yellow Cat Five to work with us on the design of a campaign to raise awareness of the link between securing land rights, protecting forests and nature - and preventing pandemics.

What were your goals for this project?

The goal of the project was to engage urban audiences seeking to understand the root causes of the COVID-19 pandemic and what must happen to prevent future pandemics providing them with a story of a key untapped solution to protect the planet and prevent pandemics.

In this way the campaign contributes to building support for the land rights struggles of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. .

SOLUTION

How did you select Yellow Cat Five?

We selected Yellow Cat Five though a competitive bidding process. A panel of 3 representatives of organizations that participate in Land Rights Now evaluated three bids and selected YC5.

Describe the project in detail.

Yellow Cat Five delivered the following: development of campaign identity, tagline and hashtag , 5 sharegraphics for social media, a short video for social media and a Facebook Profile Frame.

What was the team composition?

We had weekly meetings with the head of agency to discuss the project who assigned tasks and provided feedback to her team which for this project consisted for a graphic designer and a video editor.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The campaign was a success and feedback from colleagues has been very positive. A key success of the campaign is that it transmitted a serious message about land rights while using colorful and upbeat campaign products.

At a time when there is so much negative news out there - the narrative of this campaign was overall positive and energizing for people.

In terms of numbers the video was viewed by over 3 million people on social media.

The sharegraphics called on Facebook users to sign a petition to save the Amazon collected 13,700 sign ups and will be handed over to the Judges of the Constitutional Court in Peru in January.

Unfortunately the outreach to journalists did not produce any results - this is an ongoing challenge faced by organizations that work in the area of land rights and Indigenous Peoples. It is not an issue that journalists/media give priority to.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

As mentioned, we liaised directly with the head of agency. Communication was clear and effective and we felt that they took our feedback on board and understood well what it was we needed.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

As mentioned above, I found that Yellow Cat Five listened to us and understood what it was we needed - and always responded well to the feedback that we provided adapting the deliverables in a professional way accordingly.

They did not try to impose ideas but worked in tandem with us so it was very much a joint initiative.

The campaign was complex: linking land rights for Indigenous Peoples - protecting forests and nature - preventing pandemics - but working together with YC5 we managed to communicate the message to millions of people worldwide in an engaging and clear way.

Are there any areas for improvement?

We are happy with the campaign.

I’m the managing partner of Propel Aviation Solutions, an airline and aviation consultancy. We work with airlines and aircraft manufacturers on a variety of issues, including but not limited to fleet planning, airplanes to buy, network planning, where to fly, capacity, and revenue management.

What challenge were you trying to address with Yellow Cat Five?

We needed a website built in order to have a professional, credible presence online and have proof points of the capability my firm has.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with an interview process over email where I worked to identify my professional voice and what I wanted the voice and image of the firm to be, basically a virtual avatar. From there, they came to me with several looks and feels for the website without any content. Once we agreed on one, we had an iterative process in which I drafted the content and they provided suggestions about how to make the voice consistent with the site. The site was built using Wix. 

What is the team composition?

There have been four people that I’m aware of.  

How did you come to work with Yellow Cat Five?

I had an existing relationship with their broader firm because they’re also in the consulting space but doing different work than us. Yellow Cat Five is part of the media arm of this larger company, where I have some significant connections. It ended up being a matter of convenience — they had the right people at the right place at the right time. 

How much have you invested with them?

On our two projects combined, we’ve spent €10,000 (approximately $11,300 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since September 2019. They are now developing a website for my new business I’m moving into.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They were able to develop the website we needed and had a process that made us feel heard and comfortable. Because of the global economic situation, I put unveiling the site on hold. But, I’ve shared the URL with some industry contacts and friends whose opinions I respect, and the feedback is universally positive. 

How did Yellow Cat Five perform from a project management standpoint?

They are extremely easy to work with and good at hitting deadlines. If anything, the problems with deadlines were on my end, not their end. We communicate via email and Asana. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They didn’t just throw together a website to check off boxes, like some other companies. Their communication and responsiveness make them stand out. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I can think of is that they’re not the most price competitive organization.

Just be consistently engaged with them and provide thorough feedback to make sure your voice is heard.

I’m the general partner and founder of C2Ventures. We’re an early-stage venture firm.

What challenge were you trying to address with Yellow Cat Five?

We hired them for multiple projects, including branding and website development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Basically all external communication runs through them for our firm. They’ve done multiple branding projects for our logo and positioning. For the logo, they helped us get our color palette together. A refresh was done on everything external that people see, including our LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram. This included design and copy and they designed and developed our website. 

When it comes to external communication, they act as a filter and help us communicate to the market. They support our social media efforts and our weekly and monthly marketing efforts to get our message out there. Our newsletter is also managed and driven by them. 

What is the team composition?

They have two designers, a copywriter, a social media person, and others. I’ve interacted with at least 5–6 people, but other weeks I’ll only work with 1–2 people. 

How did you come to work with Yellow Cat Five?

We invested in a company that had created separate divisions and was looking to be independent, and that led us to getting to know Yellow Cat Five.

We’d considered 2–3 other companies, but Yellow Cat Five was just extremely responsive during our trial runs. They are able to be versatile and touch on all the different aspects we needed, so we chose them to solve our different problems instead of having to hire multiple vendors.

How much have you invested with them?

The price ranges depending on the month, but around $5,000 is the average, even though we haven’t spent that much every month. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2019 and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We track various metrics, including our new subscribers, followers, our speed, efficiency, and relationship with portfolio companies. Across those metrics, we’ve seen between 20–30% increases in a lot of our metrics since we started working together.

How did Yellow Cat Five perform from a project management standpoint?

They use a ton of different tools like Asana and Slack. They’re very in-tune with what the best project tools and software are that create a higher level of efficiency. We talk every Monday morning, too. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re an extension of our team and are fun to work with. They are extremely creative and versatile. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any major complaints. Even though there’s a time difference, we’re able to manage that and we’ve been working together for a year. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure you do a hardcore scope of work upfront. Ensure the scope of work lines up with what their core competency is.

I’m the founder of Tarmac Technologies which is a startup in the consulting business.

What challenge were you trying to address with Yellow Cat Five?

Since we were a startup, we were looking for someone to develop a new brand and website.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

To start, we separated everything into steps. We had some initial interactions to identify the scope of the project and make a roadmap of things to do. They listened to my ideas about design and user flow, and they guided me into a single direction, ruling out things that were too out of the box.

They developed the website and branding from scratch. I wanted to do something very simple, and I consulted with them on logo colors, templates, and other assets. 

What is the team composition?

I’ve mainly worked with Rita (Founder, Designer & Illustrator), Joseph (Founder & CEO), and Eric (Founder & CTO), but there were other people on the team as well. Joseph was my initial contact, and I worked with Eric on the development part. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Yellow Cat Five in February 2020. Though we had to postpone things during March, we’re 95% done and planning to launch mid-July.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since we haven’t launched, I don’t have any metrics yet, but I’m showing it to clients and associates now. One thing that impressed me is that I’ve gotten contacted by a US company after Yellow Cat Five listed my project on their portfolio page. I’ve gotten good results.

How did Yellow Cat Five perform from a project management standpoint?

We have weekly follow-up calls, and it’s been a smooth process so far. They’re using Asana to track tasks and deadlines, and they send me reports and updates over email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve worked with other companies, but Yellow Cat Five is just much more professional and organized. They’re really good. Their use of tools and spreadsheets to make things tidier is a big difference to what I’ve seen in past experiences. Although I don’t know what other companies are doing, it’s a massive change from my previous experiences. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they've provided more than I even wanted so I’m happy. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I would recommend them to anyone looking for an agency. Yellow Cat Five is way above market standards.
