X2 Labs has delivered an app that has received excellent reviews and user feedback. When they inherited it, it was in a half-completed state with poor documentation, and it’s now live in production. We’ve seen numerous performance improvements throughout the process that the team has proactively identified, as well as feature additions at a fast pace. We’ve also seen 5,000 downloads, 1,500 daily active users, and a 30% retention rate within the first month.

X2 Mobile has been working with us for many years. I began working with them in December 2022. What impresses me most is how easily their product manager, Diana, fits in with our team. We consider her one of our own. She is competent, an excellent communicator, and is able to take our ideas to fruiting while meeting our budget and timeline.

We had some issues with our CEO not liking the UI/UX design. I think both X2 Mobile and us could have collaborated sooner with key stakeholders on the design approval. Instead, we were left scrambling toward the end of the project.

The team developed the app from scratch; we just provided a list of features and some frameworks. They were able to grasp our focus and even suggest the priority of certain features. The backend was also handled by the X2 Mobile Team, which took charge of administering our considerably large database. We released three versions together, starting with the MVP, which had limited functions and lacked Points of Interest (POIs).

During the V2 phase, they uploaded our database and tested the search functionality and data display features. With the latest update, the team implemented improvements and introduced new features, such as user accounts, to enhance the app's functionality.

We tested the features and functionality in a small group of users.

Our software solution relies heavily on web real time communication for voice, SMS/MMS, WhatsApp, chat, email, and video. For this reason, we needed native mobile apps to reach local device capability for telephony to receive and make phone calls, as well as ease communication via all the other CRM contact paths. The CRM features are complex and mission critical with real-time workflow events built in, and thus notification banners were a must-have!

Additionally, the activity calendars with built-in workflow automation required increased usability to encompass the complexity behind this feature. Overall, we needed great focus on the user experience to match our web application, even though the screen space on a mobile device is much more limited, compared to the desktop.

Cluj-Napoca Municipality is the local authority of the second biggest city in Romania. The reviewer is the Chief Service of Citizen Information Centre of the Municipality and a part of the internal innovation team.

The city’s objective is to increase the use of the public bus system connecting such areas and the city for daily commutes. A key issue identified by the city is the lack of reliability and predictability of the current system connecting the commuting zones and city. Despite a fixed timetable, buses often have changes to their schedule due to traffic or other incidents.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

The technical solution takes a simple and innovative approach to offer real-time data to the Cluj Public Transport users. The bus position is accessed via an API that provides the GPS locations of the bus every five seconds. Based on the bus position the application predicts the amount of time it will require to get to the next station and shows its exact location on the map.

The user has real-time information on arrival time and expected delays per station The solution provides a great user experience for both iOS and Android users via native applications. Transport Cluj is very minimalistic with the objective of being a 3sec app. The user should enter and find the information needed in less than 3 sec.

• During the 5 days demo, more than 90% of the people interviewed managed to answer all the questions from the scenarios used without getting any help.
• On a scale from 1-5 how difficult was it to complete the task? - 97% of the people rated it as very easy to use, and 3% rated it as easy
• On a scale from 1-5, what is the overall level of satisfaction? - 98% of the people rated it as 5/5, 2% rated it as 4/5 • 100% of the people interviewed stated they would use the app when published.
• What is the most valuable feature? More than 90% of people mentioned the real-time tracking of the bus on the route.
• The Metropolitan area would benefit most from the app due to the lower frequency of the buses. Losing a bus means so much more there
• The most common suggestion in terms of new features to add was a search functionality for the stations.
• The most important next step is to incorporate the entire CTP bus fleet.

We have two locations in Cluj-Napoca, and we needed an app for our members to access our content (like workout of the day, trainer bio/info, and so on…), to book an appointment with one of our coaches, to book a class. Our goal was to have a friendly and easy-to-use platform for our community.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

First, I was looking for people easy to talk to. But on the other hand, I was eager to find great skills, nice previous projects and good cost estimate.

We had a series of discovery meetings to discuss our goals and objectives. We provided the wireframes, they gave us feedback, and then we came up with a great design. After that, they started the development. Every two weeks we had a demo meeting.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Most of the time we worked with the project manager, but every two weeks we interacted with all team members (developers, QAs, …)

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Our members were very happy with our app, we received only great feedback.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

The project manager was easy to communicate with, he provided updates regularly. Because we are based in the same city, we had lots of face-to-face meetings. Everything was delivered on time.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

In X2Mobile team I recognised teamwork skills. They listened to my concerns, have strong organizational skills, and we communicated a lot.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Nobody’s perfect, and regardless how critical we are when it comes to strengths and weaknesses, I haven’t doubted their abilities to get the job done.
