Websites.ca Web Design’s efforts failed to meet the client’s expectations. It took them numerous revisions to finalize the site, and their site management frequently encountered issues. Although they were transparent with their costs, they overpromised their capabilities, resulting in a negative experience.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the president of a company that sells and reproduces antiques and antique furniture. Likewise, we also do film and television production, supply, and rental.

What challenge were you trying to address with Websites.ca Web Design?

I was experiencing challenges with my website, and I was looking for someone to manage my site.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Websites.ca rebuilt my website using WordPress, ensuring it’ll look identical to my old platform. The site was informational, and it featured our products, contact details, and services. We had many rounds of revisions before the site came close to my expectations. After that, they managed and updated my website.

What is the team composition?

I worked with six teammates, including the owner, technical resources, and email specialists.

How did you come to work with Websites.ca?

They approached me.

How much have you invested with them?

I spent between $2,000–$5,000 CAD (approximately $1,600–$4,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from October 2019–May 2021.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.

The project was not successful. Although Websites.ca rebuilt the site, it took them many attempts, and it still wasn’t identical to my old site. I also encountered numerous problems regarding their site management, and things weren’t done on time.

I felt like Websites.ca lied to me. I told them what I needed to be done, but they couldn’t do it. They overpromised just to get my business — they weren’t capable of active site management.

How was project management handled?

Websites.ca was upfront about their costs, and I had no issues with their budgeting. However, they didn’t communicate well. We collaborated through emails and phone calls.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

I was not impressed with anything about Websites.ca.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Websites.ca shouldn’t overpromise their capabilities but instead state that they could only manage very basic websites. They could also improve their communication processes within their team.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Run in the other direction and find somebody else.

Websites.ca takes care of rebuilding the website or building a new one, moves the domain, email accounts, and sets up the hosting on their WordPress servers. They also take care of any updates or changes we pass on from our clients.

Almost all of our clients have stayed with Websites.ca Web Design for their website design, hosting, and updates.

The turnaround for a new website for a client was about 1-2 weeks. Websites updates a day or two. They are really impressive.
