For the most part, they’re really great about staying on track. There are times where we have to remind them to give us an update but whenever that happens, we get a quick response. That being said our project manager for the website redesign went above and beyond in terms of meeting deadlines and communication.

It feels like they’re our partner, not just a vendor. Our goals are their goals. We had an issue creep up recently that demanded immediate attention. Our project manager and developer took time away from their quarterly meeting to jump in and get that issue resolved. To me, that says partner more than vendor.

Their specialty is digital, paid advertising, and things of that nature. I would like to see them invest more when it comes to graphic design. Some of their designs aren’t exactly what I would like, so some improvement there would great.

My advice is to do your part in a relationship with them. If you’re highly invested and provide everything they need, they’ll be that much more invested.

On average, healthcare click-through rates (CTR) are 0.8%. Due to Webolutions’ behind the scenes work, we have a CTR of 3.5% which is way above the national average. 

Our website visitor traffic has grown by 18%–25% annually. Their SEO work is outstanding, often placing us on the first page or two for Google searches, and 70% of people who find our website do so via organic search.

They are superb — very communicative and flexible. They work around my availability for meetings and take their time with me so I never feel rushed. We needed a site that was built specifically for the North American market. By developing a new website with focused messaging, we were hoping to increase our web presence and grow our business.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They began the project by constructing a site map that centered around essential keywords. After planning the organization of our site, they sent us a design proposal with specifications for the UI and style elements of the website. This included mockups of web pages with visual components that they created.

After only two weeks since launching the platform, we’ve already seen a rise in organic traffic, despite little additional SEO work.

I had regular phone calls with their project manager, and we communicated via email as well. Occasionally, I spoke with members of their management team to check-in about our progress.

Their team stuck to the design and development schedule and delivered a finished product without any issues. They managed the project exceptionally well and were much more organized than web design companies I've worked with previously.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They did a fantastic job of balancing marketing considerations with their emphasis on high-quality design. Their ability to develop a functional yet stylish website that can also generate traffic and conversions is uncommon, and sets them apart. Also, in situations where their deliverables didn’t quite meet my expectations, they were quick to adjust and respond to my feedback.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would’ve benefitted from speaking to them over the phone more frequently. Although they were diligent in meeting deadlines, they could’ve done a better job of giving progress updates.

Be aware that content creation is a significant part of the web design process. Because their team may not be familiar with the type of work that you do, it's important for you to be realistic with them about your capabilities in terms of content management. Also, take responsibility for how your content is portrayed on your site, and be sure to give them feedback.

Please provide a brief description of your company.

Founded in Denver, my company has become the leader in residential and commercial lawn care, tree service, and holiday lighting across the Front Range of Colorado.

What is your role at the company?

For the last three years, I’ve been the Assistant Marketing Manager. I have the responsibility of managing our website, PPC [pay-per-click] campaigns, and SEO strategy.

What was the business challenge that you were trying to address when you approached Webolutions?

Our previous management team was utilizing a developer in India to manage our website and SEO strategy. While the cost was incredibly low, you sometimes get what you pay for. Our internal IT team was in charge of the hosting of our site, but no one was managing its security. Webolutions at the time was handling only our PPC efforts and alerted us that our site had been hacked. They provided (free of charge) numerous reports highlighting the errors this hack was doing to our site and our overall rankings. Their proactive approach opened our eyes to the need to have a team that was continuously looking out for us. We eventually decided that we needed them on our team to manage our website, our SEO, and our PPC. They were instrumental in allowing us to catch a potential catastrophe before it went any further.

What was the scope of the project, and can you describe the specific services they provided?

Once the hack was brought to our attention, we immediately secured a relationship with Webolutions to try and set the ship in the right direction. It was an enormous undertaking to go in and remove the code that was placed on our site by the hackers, correct all the errors and broken links it caused, and begin to make the site healthy again. However, there were parts of our antiquated platform that were irreparable. While they were able to get us up and running fairly quickly, helping us to regain a footing with Google search engines, we ultimately decided it was time for a new site. Webolutions had the ability and the relationship to get this done smoothly and accurately.

Their team was in continual contact with us, making sure that we were part of every phase from conception, to development, to branding, to imagery. They were always available to answer questions, provide clarification, make adjustments, etc. The process was seamless and allowed us to focus on our jobs, knowing that competent individuals were focusing on theirs. The new site went live in March of 2017 without any noteworthy issues. We immediately saw our rankings jump to the top, and the user interface proved popular with our visitors as traffic steadily increased.

How did you originally come to work with Webolutions?

Webolutions was originally recommended to us by our president, who had a business relationship with their owner. While some SEO and online marketing companies prey on your inexperience—providing services you don’t need that don’t work—Webolutions is all about providing knowledge and empowering the customer. They understand that not everyone is an SEO expert but that they should know some basics in order not to be taken advantage of. They provided a great deal of in-person and online information to help us learn what they were doing and why they were doing it so we could make better decisions going forward.

When did the project begin and when was it completed, or is it ongoing?

The project began in late 2016 and was completed in early March of 2017 (website and hacking issues). They continue to provide SEO and PPC support, as well as monitor our website for any security issues (hosting is included).

We’ve spent $50,000–$199,999.

In terms of the success and the quality of their work, are you able to share any statistics, metrics, or evidence in general that shows the impact they’ve had for your company?

Once they started to fix our old website after the hack, we immediately noticed that our rankings began to tick up. We had been at the top of the searches for our top 10 keywords but had fallen to the second page because of the errors, broken links, etc. caused by the hackers. The real results came when the new site went live and Webolutions completely took over our SEO efforts (we were trying to do them internally prior). By April of 2017, about a month after the new site went live, we were #1 for 8 out of 10 of our top keywords, #2 and #3 for the others, and #1 in all the local packs that existed for the search terms.

How would you say they perform from a project management standpoint?

When we were in the midst of fixing the hacking issues, Webolutions was contacting us daily to follow-up on the progress and make sure that the fixes they were doing were correct for our business model. We also starting having monthly meetings to go over our SEO and PPC efforts so there was complete transparency. Once the website rebuilding got underway, we met at their facility once a week until the site migration started. We went over mood boards, navigation layouts, and much more until the team felt comfortable with the final decision. As they began the migration, we were continually updated at least once a week about the progress and any issues that arose. There was never a time when I felt as though we weren’t being treated as a valued client.

What would you say distinguishes Webolutions from other providers?

What separates them from the others is their level of customer service. Customers want to know that they’re being taken care of, especially when it comes to rebuilding an existing website. While there is an understanding that they are the industry experts, they firmly believe in providing their clients with education and information for complete transparency. Not many companies are willing to tell “their secrets,” but the good ones understand that creating an atmosphere of reliance only breeds contempt.

No, there’s none that I can think of.

We are the national commodity board for potatoes. We do marketing and research on behalf of the potato industry, and we’re supported by potato growers. We don’t sell anything and are nonprofit because of that. We represent the entire industry. We are located in Denver, Colo.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am the global consumer marketing manager. I’m in charge of domestic and international public relations, nutrition, and issues management work, which includes digital media. I also run the advertising campaign that we have domestically.

What was your goal for working with Webolutions?

Initially, I had one firm that was doing our website design, updates, and maintenance. What we noticed we weren’t ranking highly on some keywords that we realistically should be. Our traffic was not that high, and we had far more visitors who came to us directly or through links than we did through search engines.

We knew we needed to work on our SEO [search engine optimization]. I took that as a challenge, and wanted to find an organization that can help us increase our search engine optimization. I found Webolutions, and they very clearly spelled out what they were going to do, and what they would have to do for us to rank higher.

We also want to be the go to source for everything potatoes, including potato nutrition. We wanted to make sure that our nutrition story is the story that consumers are hearing because it is very factual and science based. There’s a lot of misinformation about that. So, we also wanted to make sure that potato goodness was ranking high for that search term.

Please describe the scope of their work.

They manage our entire website. Everything from the SEO, to the day-to-day management, to the design. I was sold on the consistent excellence that they were bringing to the table with their SEO and the ideas they had about what we could be doing with our website, it just made so much sense that we go ahead and switch to using them as a management company.

Our website was outdated, it was five or six years old and pretty static. They understood interactivity, they understood that we had a very large, deep website that needs to be intuitive. They taught me a lot about what we needed to be offering to the public. They took me through this process, when we redesigned the website, which allowed us to step back and look at the big picture as a consumer as opposed to the person who wants their information to be read.

They helped me understand why people are coming to us, what they’re looking for, why they are looking for it, and the way they’re looking for it. It’s important to have a partner in your website management who knows when we need to look at things differently.

What was your process for selecting Webolutions with which to work?

I wanted someone local. I have worked with out of state and local website companies. I found it was easier when you’re talking about these very technical situations, to talk with someone locally. I knew of Mike [Hanbery, director of new media strategies at Webolutions] and I was aware of the things he and his company were doing. I was also very impressed with some of the things that they had done.

We put out an RFP [request for proposal] and asked about the process, and what the process would be. I got back three proposals and, in the end, Webolutions’ locality, and the value that they were offering proved to be the best fit. It was my decision, and I was very glad to have made the decision to hire Webolutions.

Overall, how do you think Webolutions has performed?

Incredibly. Impeccably. They are extremely responsive, are consummate professionals, and are fun to work with. Whether it’s SEO, Web design, or Web maintenance they make the process just really enjoyable and a learning experience. There’s a lot of trust involved in what they do, and I have 100 percent trust in them.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

Website was launched in January of 2013, and we saw a 60 percent boost in visitors, and it’s continued to grow. Month after month, we saw improvements on traffic, on interaction, signups for our weekly recipe emails. Due to the new design, consumers were staying on our site for good reasons, and they were interacting.

We ended fiscal year 2013 with something like 400,000 visitors, which I was extremely proud of. We had doubled our traffic that year. We hit a million visitors before that fiscal year [ended]. Doubling from 200 to 400 is one thing, but going from 400 to more than a million in a year, it was just outrageous. We’re also seeing 65 percent of our traffic is now coming through search engines, so that says a lot about the SEO work that was done.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

They are about client experience. You are not just a customer. They bring you into their family. They involve you in understanding their culture. I go to breakfast with them at 7 a.m., where I talk with their other clients. You’re not just talking to your client representative. You talk with the whole team, so you understand the human input to your business. That is a very special component of the work with them. I think that any business could learn a lot from the way they run their business.

The business challenge that we were trying to address was to create an entirely new user-friendly website complemented by search engine optimization tools.  We felt that our website was outdated and needed an upgrade immediately.  Additionally, we were looking for some help in developing our social media strategy.

We started with strategic marketing planning and branding before we even got to the website.  Once that was completed, we went through a pretty detailed and customized process of what our website was going to look like and what it needed to represent Edge Solutions and earn us new business.

We were given four references from other people in our industry and three were in Atlanta and one was in Denver.  We then asked each company to offer up their proposals for a new website.  Webolutions had the most developed strategy and concept.  They didn't just provide us with proposed website design, they also included planning and strategy development as the first part of the process.  We felt that their proposed process of rebranding to develop the messaging for the new website best represented what we wanted to accomplish.

Overall, our employees and our clients say that the website looks very professional, clean and represents our organization’s personality.

They have performed exceptionally well.  They are great because they are very responsive and have an open door policy.  There are always ready to answer any questions that I may have and provide consultation and support readily.

[We are] Vision Care Specialists. We're located in the greater metropolitan Denver area. We have five locations. We are eye doctors, both optometry and ophthalmology, so medical care as well as surgical eye care, and all of the retail components that go along with that, including glasses and contacts. What was your goal for working with Webolutions?

There were two goals. One was to bring us into a much more readily used platform within all of the Web area, including social media. We had a website, but it was clearly out of date, and it didn't do anything that related to mobile devices. We didn't have any ability to communicate with our consumers, patients, and others on social media through those types of components that are an important form of marketing.

The other piece was to develop a strategic marketing process. The really important component of marketing inside a company is related to the brand and the culture. The second half of what we were trying to create is that experience of brand and culture. We began building that experience within our company, that strategic brand component. So, those were the two reasons that I sought out Webolutions.

Please describe the scope of their work.

They created the entire backend of everything that needed to go into creating a brand new website for us. Then what we did was write the content, and they edited all of the content for us. They also made sure the flow was working. 

They created everything I needed to go in there and do the work that was necessary to get a website up and running. They recommended that we develop a mobile application, so that anytime somebody turns on a tablet or their smartphone that your website comes up, and it's readily accessible. They went and created all of that work behind the scenes and that's the IT [information technology] world to me, building websites.

They led for us a series of a dozen meetings where we sat down with a number of people in our company and discussed the company's culture. We sat down and identified who we were, what did we want to be, and where do we want to go in the future? That was a multistep process to work through.

The areas of expertise that they brought into the room for us was the ability to research some of our competitors from an online and social media perspective. What's the competition doing?

Then they also provided us with the important details about what words are being searched, what things are being searched for, and are we then in that field?

What was your process for selecting Webolutions with which to work?

[We] interviewed a number of firms that we looked at, and kind of put through their paces of what they do. It was not a formal RFP [request for proposal], but we did solicit bids from everybody to understand what their capabilities were, and what their expertise was.

I asked for references and contacted those folks, and asked what they did for them. At the end of the process, Webolutions proved to be the company that best fit our needs.   

Can you provide an estimate of how much the projects with Webolutions have cost?

Doing the website itself, I'm thinking between $15,000 and $20,000. We've been with them now, on an annualized basis, right around $10,000 a month, and that's for continued market awareness and development, social media, and a Facebook campaign.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

Yes. We're really seeing legitimate growth in our new patients every single month, and we have incredible client retention as well. Another simple thing, we had never done a Facebook "like" campaign, so we started that maybe a few months ago, and have seen that go from zero to 400.

They also produce on a weekly basis a data sheet that shows where we rank, based on keywords, and where our traffic is coming from.

Overall, how well do you think they've performed?

Globally, I would give them a very strong score. They've been easy to work with. They were very capable of bringing up new ideas and creative thoughts for us. Also, I really appreciate that I don't have to continue to ask them to do certain things. So, that's worked really well.  

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

I think a lot of people can build a website, but their understanding of keeping a website fresh is incredible. They gave us that guidance. It wasn't just about getting a website up and published. It was really making sure that it's going to attract the level of attention that we want for our customers.

The other piece that really distinguishes them is the breadth of their clients. They work with a lot of people, and I think with that you naturally gain more experience. It's good that they can cross-pollinate ideas and knowledge.

I think the only area they could improve on is learning to ask questions when they are unfamiliar with something. We work in healthcare, and they don't, so there are certain nuances that trip them up, or make progress lower than expected.
