Wave helped us find and set up a physical office in Poland and have been integral into sourcing exceptional candidates. We are headquartered in Manchester, UK but with become a remote first business after the pandemic we saw an opportunity to expand our Talent pool.

This was difficult to do alone as we had limited knowledge internally of local employment law, contract types and the market in general. Magda and her team at Wave have been integral to the success we have reached in the last 18 months having hired 14 people successfully in Poland.

I'm the Managing Partner of an advisory consulting firm specializing in guiding PE firms, MNCs and start-ups with focus on sales operations, product development and software services towards establishing innovation or development hubs in nearshore/offshore destinations in Central & Eastern Europe.

Appointed by the Client - Board and Investors to define an operations strategy and establish a Global Delivery Centre in a nearshore location. Poland was selected after comparison with other locations.

For what projects/services did your company hire Wave Europe?

The client had a strong vision for what they wanted to achieve in their growth plans, and were committed to finding the right people to help them get there. Coupled with the challenges of management bandwidth, local talent shortages in the UK, the client needed to extend their operations by creating a Global Delivery Center in Poland.

Wave Europe was tasked to setup and provide the key resources in building their development teams for the Global Delivery Center, working closing with UK management, HR, Delivery and Finance teams.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Wave Europe was selected after reviewing the competitive landscape of providers in Poland based on local market knowledge, costs of providing resources in Poland, as well as their experience and pragmatic approach to outsourcing and recruitment that was aligned to the culture and approach of the client.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

This project was brewing for a couple of years with research and attempts to establish an extended Delivery Center in another nearshore location. Due to the client experiencing accelerated growth, they engaged a specialist to spearhead their nearshore initiative to establish a Global Delivery Center. A business case was provided and gained board approval to proceed to the next stage with a Finance and HR roadmap.

A lot of groundwork was required to proceed with setting up operations in Poland where Krakow was chosen as the Global Delivery Center. Wave Europe was tasked to provide the first key resources for a team that was time sensitive and crucial to fulfilling a client project with back-to-back implications on deliverables. In parallel, Wave Europe was tasked to provide resources for another team for another client project.

Subsequently, further growth and expansion of teams is currently ongoing with Wave Europe retained to build further teams to address the growth schedule, client project demands and mitigating the market talent shortages.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Wave Europe appointed three key interfaces: a Commercial Director who owned and managed the account, with the Finance Director providing costing/budget guidance and Operations Director providing the required support from their team of technical specialists, team of recruiters and administration staff.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The success of creating a Global Delivery Center provided added value to the client, expanding their value proposition to the market with extended capacity and expanded capabilities to serve their existing clients and offerings to new business.

The Global Delivery Center solidified the client's position with their stakeholders and investors, where they were further acquired by a larger and more established US based corporation. A more confident approach to their client in terms of fulfilment and delivery of services that would remain challenging to source locally, which in return translates to increased revenue streams and opportunities.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Relationship, collaboration and communication was well aligned once the project kicked off. It was a balancing act on several factors: the client's availability, meeting the requirements, and supplying the right solution, while mitigating organizational and market challenges.

Communication matrix was established and constant, open channels via Slack, email and video calls to provide scheduled and spontaneous reporting and action deliverables. The flow was fluid and transparent in providing solutions and resolving issues.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Wave Europe provided attention to details, aligned with the client's culture and approach, and provided flexibility and transparency every step of the way. This is reflected in the selection and caliber of talent engaged by the client.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We wish to have more knowledge and training on how to operate in Poland with its rules and regulations and have more market understanding of the labor market, but this was beyond the scope tasked for Wave Europe.

Coolteq staff has long academic and industrial experience in the area of HVAC solutions (for general industry, manufacturing, mining). While we have the core competencies in the domain (physically accurate models, propagation formulas, etc.) - we've been looking for a skilled SW development team, that could turn those into a custom application, flexible enough, to be used/applied to various projects we run with our customers.

Wave helped us on multiple fronts, first finding the right engineers for the task, ramping up the team, and then delivery of the software under our staff supervision (requirements).

Wave's project management was very responsive, and proactive through the whole project lifecycle. They were able to keep the key engineering staff with the project, which is admirable, taking into account a hot job market condition in the area. They were very open and honest in the communication. They were flexible, with a couple of product pivots we have to make through the development cycle. They were quick to adopt to changes, emphasizing their high agility levels.

An ability to quickly find the right staff for the project, retain it, and do it within a reasonable cost levels, without sacrificing the quality or scope.

Not through the project, but it was a bit hard to find them, as a vendor (that was a bit by coincidence, by a friendly referral). They need to improve a bit their visibility in the market, that would serve both their potential customers, and their ability to bring even more technical talent.
