When we send a support email, the team responds within 30 minutes, while our previous provider sometimes took days to respond. When we send a support ticket, we usually receive a response within 10–15 minutes, which is a huge difference for us. Our systems now run smoothly, while before, we were constantly having difficulties with applications freezing, computers shutting down, and the server environment wasn't working for us. Since we switched to Vertical IT Solutions and migrated our server, we haven't experienced these issues. How did Vertical IT Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?We communicate with the team through a support email. For larger projects like our server migration, Javier and Josiah were my primary points of contact, and I emailed them directly. What did you find most impressive about them?Vertical IT Solutions stands out for their cooperative work with our team. What challenge were you trying to address with Vertical Computers?

We had a traditional telephone and fax service in the office, and we had to pay monthly bills for each of our telephone lines, which was very costly. Additionally, the price increased every year, and we were wasting a lot of paper with our fax service. We used to receive a lot of junk or unsolicited faxes, which used our toner and occupied our lines, causing us to lose important faxes.

On top of that, we had multiple locations. Thus, integrating our locations and providers so that our staff could manage their needs was challenging. Therefore, we hired Vertical Computers to help us implement a modern phone system.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Vertical Computers helped me move my phone numbers from a traditional phone service provider to an integrated phone system, implementing different other services such as electronic faxing and voicemail transcription. Their services were both remote and on-site.

When they came and installed all the equipment, they provided helpful orientation to our staff. Still, when we required some changes to the system, they were able to do them remotely. Throughout the process, Vertical Computers even helped us with the cabling. They didn’t do it themselves, but they connected me with one of their associates who installed everything on short notice to get us up and running.

After completing the migration, Vertical Computers offered other services, such as data hosting and a computer maintenance contract. However, we’re still getting up to speed with our new phone system. Maybe we’ll hire other services in the future for our business development projects.

What is the team composition?

During the system installation, two teammates from Vertical Computers came to our office: an engineer and his assistant. Additionally, I worked remotely with another engineer and a salesperson, with whom I communicated over the phone.

How did you come to work with Vertical Computers?

Vertical Computers came highly recommended by another surgeon in the community who had experienced similar issues in the past. Originally, I was looking for an internet-based phone system because I didn’t know about electronic fax or voicemail transcription.

When I met with Vertical Computers, they told me about the range of services they could offer beyond a phone service, which opened my eyes to different possibilities we hadn’t thought of before.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent less than $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together in March 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Now, we no longer have a monthly expense to pay to a telephone company. As a result, We’ve reduced our over $750 monthly costs on phone services to around $150 per month. Additionally, I was able to cancel an answering service that cost between $150–$750 per month, which has increased our savings.

Although our new phone service implementation is very recent, we’ll also save money on paper and toner because we’ve eliminated junk faxes. Before the electronic faxing service, I used to buy more paper every couple of weeks, but I haven’t gone back to the store since we launched this solution.

As for qualitative results, our new phone system allows us to integrate our various offices so that our staff can handle phone calls from different locations. Moreover, our electronic fax service allows us to receive faxes via email and print out only the pages we need, and our line is never busy.

On top of that, the voicemail transcription service is very helpful because, sometimes, our staff is not able to answer a call in time. This service allows us to get a voicemail transcript via email that includes the name and phone number of the caller, which helps us attend to our patients better.

How did Vertical Computers perform from a project management standpoint?

Vertical Computers’ project management was excellent. They were able to modernize my phone system in less than a week without disrupting our service, which was very important for us because we didn’t want our patients to be unable to reach out to us.

Additionally, they were able to troubleshoot the problems that came up throughout the process. For example, the fax service wasn’t working at first, but they helped us solve the problem. As for communication, we had virtual conferences and in-person meetings.

When our staff has an issue, they open a ticket, and we get a notification when they open the email. We then start communicating until the problem is resolved. Vertical Computers also has a convenient system to install software remotely. They send me a download link to install the required software, and then I receive an invoice to pay for that particular service. They’re also quick to respond during emergencies. Vertical Computers does everything for our IT infrastructure. They’ve also built two servers for us, and they monitor them, too. To elaborate, they’ve upgraded our previous server. As a form of redundancy in case the server reboots or encounters problems, the team built a second server. This way, if one server goes down, everything switches over to the other server. 

Through our partnership with them, we’ve replaced all 15 of our thin client computers running in the server environment. The team also installs and manages miscellaneous equipment, switches, and tools for us. Recently, they’ve provided us with a computer that we use as a scanning and printing hub. 

Generally, we’ve done smaller projects with them. One project can expand depending on Vertical Computers’ recommendations. Going forward, we’re planning to use Vertical Computers to manage our VoIP system after our current contract with another VoIP provider expires.  

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with nearly everybody from Vertical Computers, including Jacob (Sales Engineer) who serves as our account manager. We also work with an everyday technician for simple problems. When we need to escalate issues, we talk to Josiah (System Engineer). 

Steven (President) has also been on a call with us, while Kody (COO) is generally in charge of everything else. We’ve also had interactions with their billing department. Finally, Matthew and Tim (Support Engineers) provide us with support services. As a company that’s been around since the late ’80s, we try to figure out problems and developers by ourselves. If we can find a way to do something in-house, we usually do it ourselves. 

Given that, the fact that we continue to use Vertical Computers is a key success metric for our company. We don’t want to change our relationship with them because they’re highly responsive even during the after-hours. Unlike other companies, they handle all kinds of projects and not just the big ones. 

Moreover, the Vertical Computers team is great at walking everyone through solutions. Their ticketing system also helps us communicate well. When we have an ongoing issue, we simply submit a ticket, and they’ll provide constant updates for that ticket.

How did Vertical Computers perform from a project management standpoint?

Vertical Computers’ project management is consistent and quick. They have great connections, so we receive products from them quickly even though there’s a shortage in parts and equipment. 

Moreover, Jacob has also been a technician before being an account manager. In other companies, account managers or salespeople often have no idea what they’re selling. They simply hit customers with regular sales talk. By contrast, Jacob has the right knowledge of their services, having been a technician himself. He tells us what we can do better or where we can get a better deal. As a result, when we get transferred to the tech team, we know that they’re going to do what Jacob has told us they’ll do. 

To communicate with Vertical Computers, I usually send them an email — it’s the fastest way to reach out to them if there’s an issue. We also have a monitoring agent on all of our computers and servers, so I can submit a ticket through my desktop. Other than those two, we use phone calls and text messages.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I respect their communication style the most. I’ve dealt with technicians in the past, and they communicate differently with each other. That usually bleeds out to their customer relationship, resulting in rough or spotty communication. By contrast, I haven’t had that with Vertical Computers. The team’s communication style is on point and truly solid.

No, there aren’t any. If anything, they’ve already improved their ticketing system, which is something we’ve always used since we started the partnership.

Vertical Computers is good at explaining things, so you should ask questions. A lot of people are intimidated by technology in general, so they let the technical people figure things out. As mentioned, we’ve engaged Vertical Computers for several services. The first was the migration of a locally hosted instance of Abila MIP to a server owned and operated by Vertical Computers.

They undertook the entire migration and, toward the end, did a good job of training our staff to access the new version. Afterward, and separately, they began offering helpdesk support to us.

Our church office’s phone used an old VoIP system, and its hardware was very problematic, so we were looking for a solution.

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, Kody (COO) came from Southern California to meet with all of our staff. We told him our needs, and he explained to us what would best fit them. He proposed developing an app to use as our phone system.

Then, Vertical Computers developed that app for us. When it was ready, we informed our staff that we would pass from our old system to the new one. Kody came again and sat with us to provide us with an over an hour-long tutorial.

There were around 25 people from our staff in that meeting room, and we had everyone download the app on their phones. Then, Kody handed a very well-written explanation of what to do to everyone, and he walked us through the app setup.

He solved every question until we were fully set up, contacting and calling each other through the app. After that, we canceled our former phone service and started using the app.

What is the team composition?

Kody was our main point of contact, and he was very involved throughout the development. Vertical Computers also assigned a technical individual to us, but I don’t know how many more people from their team were involved in the project.

How did you come to work with Vertical Computers?

We had a relationship with Kody, and we found out what his company did, so we started talking with him about this issue, gaining interest in seeing how they would solve it.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $20,000–$25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around February 2021, and the project is now finished. I don’t recall how long it took Vertical Computers to develop the app, but it wasn’t much, and we’ve been using it for many months now.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Everyone was pleased with how this project was done, from start to finish. Before having this app, we had seven different phone lines, which were unnecessary. Now, the diversity of our phone extensions are handled through the app using a single phone line.

This app has also modernized our processes. We eliminated all the physical phones from our walls, and now, our members use their own cell phones to take and make calls. This also eliminated the concern of our different vendors not knowing where to call when they needed to contact a specific person within our staff. Now, they get answered by our receptionist, and she transfers the call to the right person.

We’ve achieved enormous efficiency, and now, contacting our staff members is effortless and streamlined. We also protect each individual’s cell phone information. People only know they’re calling the church’s office, and they get transferred to the person they need to get a hold of, no matter if they’re working remotely.

How did Vertical Computers perform from a project management standpoint?

Vertical Computers was very efficient and worked quickly. During development, we could call them at any time and get an immediate response. To this day, they’re still very responsive.

Recently, our system had a glitch; when someone called and got transferred, the call didn’t go through. Our receptionist immediately sent an email to Vertical Computers’ tech support agent and got an immediate response, and the problem was solved promptly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Vertical Computers’ solution personalization was impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of something that they could have improved on. As every other company does, we have tech-sufficient and tech-deficient people. However, Vertical Computers had a great ability to work with even the most technologically challenged people in our staff.

For the app, Joe was our project lead. The communication was great. He was very responsive. Even if a server was down at eight o’clock at night, he’d jump right on the issue and figure out what happened. They’re always happy to jump on and help at any time.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vertical Computers set up VoIP for my business. We had a standard phone number and answering machine with a phone company. With VoIP, there is a dial by directory. We have it forward to our phones. It transcribes voicemails to emails, and it can transfer calls to my cellphone when I’m not at work. This allows me to answer calls for clients that need assistance after hours.

We have a data retention program. We switched over some of our equipment to digital formats. In order to do that, we had to have a cloud-based backup system.

The aerospace community come out and audit us for a week every year. We needed to be set up on a off-site cloud back up system. Vertical Computers was able to get us backed up within four hours before closing.

Because of COVID-19, a majority of the work now is done remotely. They’ve done emergency services for us as well.

I am IT director at Threshold, an aviation company. We are a full-service aviation repair station, and we manage and maintain private jets. We also charter private jets, and we have a fueling operation at the Chino Airport, too.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vertical helps us manage our IT infrastructure as well as provide day-to-day support to end-users. They do both remote and onsite work for us. 

We moved our entire VoIP phone system over to them. They helped us virtualize all of our hardware, like our servers. Vertical also helped us beam internet to different facilities at the airport, and they set us up with a Cradlepoint LTE failover for our location in Auburn, California. They’ve definitely been pivotal on all of those things.

We are still working on different initiatives. We’re about to start a complete network overhaul, so we’ll be ripping out all of the network infrastructures in our three offices. We’ll be redoing them and putting in all new equipment with their help.

Once we signed our contract, we started working that night because we were in a big hurry. They were dedicated and established a family environment. That was really nice and quite a change from my previous experience and the other companies that I interviewed.

We started working together in February 2018, and it’s ongoing. We just renewed our contract with them for another two years.

There’s always a fix, whether it’s them handling the problem for me or we deal with it together. I love when we collaborate and can solve issues or plan out new projects together.

Honestly, I just think they need to hire more people like the ones they have. If they do, they’ll continue to grow. They’ve never dropped the ball or let us down. We have no complaints; we’re all really happy with them.

They’ve done a good job with communicating. They were a little slow at the start, but this is the first application of this type that they’ve hosted. Since they’ve started running it, they’ve been doing fine. We communicate with them by phone or through email.

They don’t quite do 24/7 technical support. The only thing I’d say they could do to improve is opening their technical support hours outside of their usual time.

We have a great relationship. They’re very transparent and upfront. They tell us what’s the best solution for us and we don’t have to worry about price gouging. They’re super honest and I know they’re watching my back.

Just the other day, they called me to tell me that my server’s almost full. The fact that they’re monitoring things on their side shows they’re very concerned. They take a lot of pride in keeping their customers secure.

One time, they identified a high amount of traffic coming to our site that we were unaware of. It turns out that it was a hacking attempt coming in through a small portal. Steven wrote me personally to let me know. It was great to know because that could’ve compromised our whole system.

Another time, we’ve had our servers crashing because we had some scripts that were crashing our system. We worked late at night and early in the morning to try to solve the issue. They actually built in a way for the server to restart itself if it crashed. That worked until we found the issue and fixed it. They didn’t even charge us for that.

How did Vertical Computers perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re awesome. Steven’s hands-on with all of his customers. I know I can always call him, which is great. If we have a new product we’re going to work on, usually we’re going to put it on its own server. The team gives us really good suggestions and they make sure that it's up and running within 48–72 hours.

What did you find most impressive about them?

So many companies in today’s software age are worried about the numbers and they end up sacrificing the customer relationship. We appreciate Vertical Computers because we know who we’re dealing with and we know their team. We’ll never go anywhere else. Even if they raise their prices, their level of customer service is really hard to find nowadays.  

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they do everything above industry standards.

My advice is to be very open about your needs. Don’t be afraid that you’ll be price gouged or sell you something that you don’t need. Trust them, they won’t steer you wrong.

When I first started, I was the sole person responsible for the IT department. As the years went on, technology changed and more services were put in place in our server room. It started to become more difficult to manage by myself.

Even after I brought on an assistant it was still a bit much because we also support 25 outside sales representatives and 70 remote locations. We had a lot going on and needed even more help.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve implemented a lot of new switches and a Cluster server for our VM. They’ve also reconfigured our entire VLANS.

 They assessed our current configuration and reconfigured our entire network. Our network configuration was really convoluted and they pieced it together. Our data was not flowing the cleanest and there were a lot of areas of breakage. Now, we have a streamlined approach with our data invoice.

They also implemented a line of sight at our location. We have a remote location about one mile away and our corporate office gives them their desktops, applications, and dial tone, which all travel through the line of sight. They configured all of that, as well as a backup LTE device in case our line of sight goes down. They also helped us get our VPNs working offsite.

I’ve worked with five team members from their team, all the way from the highest tier down to their lowest tier level.

We’ve worked with several other companies but they didn’t have what it takes to support what we needed. The person who trained me in the environment when I first started here partnered with Vertica. He’s also a team member of theirs. It was a good fit between his skillset and Vertical's.

It’s been a really good business relationship. I feel like we can count on them when we need them in critical and non-critical situations. They got our VPNs working off-site very quickly, which was helpful since most of our workers are remote during COVID-19.  

How did Vertical Computers perform from a project management standpoint?

They have different levels of support and it has always been very easy to get ahold of somebody. Because we manage our own services, it’s nice to have them as our backup solution when things get overwhelming.

Every month they send us performance reports to give us an idea of how our system is functioning. The monitoring is really helpful. Every week, we’re on a schedule for Windows updates, which was a big challenge for us before we started working together. They’ve been very good at taking over that scheduling and making sure the systems are up to date with critical Microsoft updates; that was a key thing I was looking for in a partnership.

Everything is very organized before we start a big project. We all know the direction we’re going in. So far, we haven’t had any monkey-wrenches thrown our way. They’re very thorough with project management and bringing us into the loop.

They always give us an expectation of how things are going to go. I like their planning.

I am the president and senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Star. We are a new, independent church plant that has grown faster than we ever expected. Within 8 months we outgrew two venues, have over 1,300 people in attendance, and just opened our office for counseling, collaboration meeting, and team/education classes.

We opened our first office and were in need of help networking the computers, printers, data, and phones.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I had heard of them through a prior contact. They came highly recommended. Based on their timely communication, customer service, high level of knowledge, commitment to excellence, and very reasonable prices, we chose Vertical.

Our first need was to set up our wireless network. Vertical took the time to view our office, research equipment and then present us with a few different options based on our needs and budget. Once we had purchased the items that we needed, they sent someone out to set up and connect our network. They confirmed that the computers, wifi, and printers were all working.

Phase two was getting office phones. Is a friendly and professional manner they took the time to find out what we needed to accomplish with our office phone system. We were presented with a few different options of phones and equipment. Once purchased, Vertical came in, set up, and programmed the system.

Additionally, they helped map and program the function of the phone system and then set it all in place. Lastly, they educated the staff on how best to use the phones and have been wonderfully available for any follow-up questions that we have had.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We had one direct point of contact who walked us through each portion of the project. I know that he consulted other co-workers within the company however, we were able to build a consistent and ongoing relationship with one of their employees.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

There are three that come to mind.

The timeliness and fact that we were able to get a brand new office space up and running within a VERY short period of time was amazing!
	Since implementing their support, our team has been able to work together much more efficiently and communicate with others in a timely fashion. (Everone is excited and the staff moral is much higher).
	One major point of success is what we are not having to deal with. There have not been any problems or malfunctions with their system. This is something that is often overlooked but the fact that we have not had any issues is a huge plus for me a the lead/president of the organization.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Extremely efficient and affective.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their level of knowledge and understanding in their field was top-notch. Their communication and support were amazing. I never felt like I was bothering them or inconveniencing them.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Honestly, it was a wonderful experience and I couldn't have asked for more.
