Two mobile apps created. The Patient App allows for families to search for healthcare professionals with a filter. They can then request an appointment or receive the contact information for the desired professional. They also are then able to have a telehealth visit via the app with integration to AthenaHealth's secure platform. 

After a consultation, they are then given a "To Do List" that pushes in from AthenaHealth's note a for them to complete with reminders. The Provider App allows for families to request appointments if they are connected with AthenaHealth based on the schedule they create on the app.

They can also enter the AthenaHealth portal via the app. The professionals that enter to be part of the network on our app go through a verification process that we then confirm in our Admin Portal.

We’re a startup in the healthcare space, providing automation for processing medical images. I’m the engineering manager for one of our products.

Our company hired VentureDive to quickly build the frontend of one of our products, which would be initially used for demos.

What was the scope of their involvement?

VentureDive has developed the frontend of our product. They’ve created the code in our repositories. We then review and incorporate it into our own codebase. They’ve since found a market fit for it and have been building its proof of concept (POC). They use React.js for the frontend and GraphQL for backend communication.

We work with two people from VentureDive. One is the tech lead, and the other is the senior software engineer. 

How did you come to work with VentureDive?

They were hired before my time in the company but were probably referred to the firm.

We started working with them around June 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

We have a quarterly release schedule, and we’ve never had any late or missed deliveries. Our team has also found no significant issues in VentureDive’s deliverables. Overall, they deliver everything on time without bugs.

They meet deadlines and stay within our budget. We have daily meetings and use Jira to manage the project.

We found out about VentureDive from a software engineer that Ona had worked with for a long time, and was one of the original developers of the OpenSRP platform. She left her previous company and moved to VentureDive. Given our positive experience working with her, we had confidence that VentureDive's other team members would be able to perform at similar levels of excellence.

VentureDive engineers are assigned to various OpenSRP projects. We mainly use GitHub and Slack for communication and task management.

Initially, we engaged 3 engineers from the VentureDive team but have increased our collaboration together. At present, we have a team of 12 VentureDive team members working with Ona. Most of the VentureDive team members are Android engineers, but we are also working with a technical architect, project manager, web engineer, and test automation engineer.

They were great for projects that were well defined and had small overlap with our existing infrastructure. Their DevOps team was good at supporting internal developers within VentureDive, but we found that they were lacking experience when it came to supporting modern cloud infrastructure best practices.

I am the tech product owner in my company. We are sort of a startup in providing wellness and lifestyle services.

For what projects/services did your company hire VentureDive Pvt. Ltd., and what were your goals?

We wanted to develop a mobile application that provides mental wellness services. Our goal was to have a simple, easy to use app that can be easily navigated by laymen who have had no prior experience of using such online services. A major requirement was for the app to display multiple languages which may not follow the english alphabet.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

VentureDive is quite well-known in the market here and enjoy a solid reputation. They would appear in the top 3 list of vendors for mobile app development.

 

Our main deciding factors were:

A one week discovery workshop was conducted to hash out all application requirements. A detailed report along with sample wireframes were presented. We worked on the wire-frames and screen designs with Venture Dive's team. Final requirements were passed onto the software team which re-validated them and started their work. We got weekly updates and test versions of the app. Overall the app took 2 months to build and roll-out to stores. Tech stack used was ReactNative for FE / JAVA Springboot for BE

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Main POC was the Project Manager. Additionally we had a group on Slack where the Lead Architect and the Business Analyst would ask questions for clarity. We also interacted with the lead developer for setting up our apple/google environments etc.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The app has generally received very positive feedback. We delayed the digital marketing campaign for a month or so as we werent sure whether to launch globally, or in a particular country to start with. The response after our marketing campaign has been phenomenal. We have received over 5K downloads within 3 weeks and a 4.5 star rating, in a market where the concept of mental wellness is relatively unknown.

Project Manager was quite responsive and held weekly meetings for updates. In case clarity was required, adhoc meetings would also be setup. We used slack for communications, basecamp for tasks and file sharing and Google drive for storing all project documentation. Timelines were adhered to by and large. There were a couple of hiccups that are normal for projects, but overall we met our timelines.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The level of ownership taken by the team is phenomenal. Never did I feel I wasn't getting support, even after the project was completed. This is why we have retained VD for providing ongoing support. Secondly their resources are top-notch.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We did have a few disagreements on features where we thought something was in-scope whereas VD team said it wasn't. There were times we felt something is "naturally" in scope even if its not explicitly written down. Perhaps before every sprint, a short feature discussion can be done to just clarify expectations on specific functionality, while keeping it in the scope of the project.

I am the general manager of a religious resource platform. We have a website and a couple of mobile apps that provide different kinds of information to Muslims.

We initially hired a small team to work in-house. We built our apps using PHP technology. However, we decided that we needed to bring in an outside vendor to help us with more advanced technical development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The information we provide to our users is mostly related to prayer times and religious events. There is a lot of calculation involved on the backend side which calculates the timings and dates for prayer by checking the user information. We have a couple of other features like online community public forums and blogs as well as other things. 

They started working on our website first. They moved our website from PHP to Java. We give them the requirements and they do all the coding. 

They developed our applications from scratch. The apps were developed for iOS as well as Android. They used Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS. We provided them with the design, and they did all the development. 

What is the team composition?

It varies. We started with two people and we gradually increased the numbers. At this point in time, I believe there are 14 people working with us. Some of them are seniors, some are juniors, and one of them is playing a CTO role for us. There are a couple of people that are managing different teams with one managing the QA team. There are also some iOS developers, Android developers, QA engineers, and web frontend developers. A year ago, we had 18 people working for us when we had more work to do.

One of our co-founders was a classmate of one of the VentureDive co-founders which is how we got connected. We asked if they could help, and they agreed.

It is roughly around $3 million.

We started working together in August 2015, and our work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We faced a couple of challenges in the first few months. The performance of our website was not that great, but then they really picked up the pace and the quality. Our apps are updated with all the latest iOS and Android requirements. The website is very crisp and has good performance metrics. I think it is now very good, but initially, we did face those issues. Overall, when looking at the five years of working with them, I think it has been a great journey.

How did VentureDive Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

They have built a good relationship with us. It has been very transparent. Sometimes we have to make changes in the releases and in the product environment, which is normal and they are very accommodating in that area. If they see any issues in the deployment dates, or if there is an employee that is working with us that leaves the company or is going on a long vacation, they have been very accommodating and provide alternative solutions. I think it has been very good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our apps have been very good. We had been struggling with how to centralize the whole design system for our apps as well as for the website. They came up with the solution to build a design system, and they implemented it in our apps as well as our website. In our opinion, it has been a game-changer. They have been very helpful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They have been doing a good job. If they weren’t not fulfilling our needs, I believe we would not still be working with them for all these years.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I don’t have any specific advice, but I think that getting all the information from them about what exactly they will be doing for your project is very important. When starting to work with them on any feature or module, it is important for us that we make sure that they have understood all the requirements as well as documented everything so it would be easy for us to make sure we are going in the right direction in terms of development and the timeline.

It was through references and through our procurement department - which has a very rigorous vendor search selection process.

The project was divided into 2 parts.

The pre JV was to have a MVP of consumer, buddy and retailer end. My role was to look after both product and operations, skewed more towards the latter. A lot of information were shared from both ends and responsibilities were also divided.
	Post JV part was where the actual development started and the product was fast tracked. Overall VD came up with a very well crafted strategy to design the entire product. Actual development was slow initially but picked up pace post JV.
What was the team composition?

Initially 4-5 people were involved from VD and each having their own roles. There was one product chief and 4 developers. Later on there were around 20 individual from VD. The number developers increased with time.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

It's difficult to assess the result of the app development on it's own. Post MVP launch, the entire eco system has generated alot of leads and orders. Since November, there has been around 7k downloads and 3k orders. After initial server/app crashes, the app has also stabilized and is able to hold vast amount of data and traffic.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project/product manager was easily approachable. We used to connect daily for half an hour to get updates from both the ends. The expectations and deadlines were well managed in the post JV era. Jira was briefly used initially to manage the workflow.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The vendor had a good matching algorithm tool and solid technical knowledge of app/website development. Their past and present experience with other startups is something that helps them stand out.

Yes, 2 things where VD should improve/work upon:

The project was very costly with in the Pakistani landscape. Aligning a better pricing strategy for local jobs could work better.

We approached VD for the development of a mobile App. GoRead.pk is a movement of volunteers, who are caring adults who read stories aloud to children in communities easily accessible from their homes or work places by giving 1 hour a week of their time.

Our goal is to register as many volunteers as possible and support them as they work with us. The App would make the process of registration, marketing, accessibility, sharing resources, schedules, feedback etc more streamlined and efficient as well as ease scale.

The App would also serve as a communication tool between all stake holders in the program as well as eventually give children access to stories (both audio and written) for independent engagement.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were to have an app that could be used on both iOS and google platforms. It was a connectivity tool between organisation and volunteers, having feedback forms, resources, schedules, ability to cancel, notifications, reminders, etc.

Eventually plan to build up to e-commerce, links for sharing stories (audio & text). We expect the app to make a huge impact on our initiative by facilitating outreach as well as scaling the project.

In reality, all we need are caring adults, communities of children, books, (digital & printed) a communication too (App) and we can literally reach anywhere. Eventually we should be all across Pakistan.

The App was useful to the organisation to manage volunteers, receive feedback, share information, schedules and developments and to centralise all matters related to the program. We provided VD with all information related to our program, and the design of the read aloud process. 

Once the App was ready for the pilot VD comarketed the app with GoRead.pk. This did lead to additional interest in our read aloud program.

What was the team composition?

A team of around 12 people were assigned to the project. Shazia Tauseef was the project lead. The size of the team and resources was adjusted according to the needs of the project.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The App attracted attention and generated a lot of interest. We have around 60 downloads of the app after it was shared and our pilot was in progress. It is too early to say if all 60 are genuine potential volunteers. 

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

When VD came on board, there were just two months left for the pilot to begin. The VD team worked with urgency, effectively collaborating with us , and made sure the app was ready in time to use during the pilot. 

Jira and Zoom were used, as far as I remember. 

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We noticed a strong team spirit and genuine interest in the project that stood out. We feel like VentureDive Pvt. Ltd. is part of the GoRead family and definitely a part of our movement.

Overall we are extremely satisfies with the service and productivity of VD. A minor area that needs attention is the need to log in everytime the app is opened.
