Two mobile apps created. The Patient App allows for families to search for healthcare professionals with a filter. They can then request an appointment or receive the contact information for the desired professional. They also are then able to have a telehealth visit via the app with integration to AthenaHealth's secure platform. 

After a consultation, they are then given a "To Do List" that pushes in from AthenaHealth's note a for them to complete with reminders. The Provider App allows for families to request appointments if they are connected with AthenaHealth based on the schedule they create on the app.

They can also enter the AthenaHealth portal via the app. The professionals that enter to be part of the network on our app go through a verification process that we then confirm in our Admin Portal.

Introduce your business and what you do there

We’re a startup in the healthcare space, providing automation for processing medical images. I’m the engineering manager for one of our products.

What challenge were you trying to address with VentureDive?

Our company hired VentureDive to quickly build the frontend of one of our products, which would be initially used for demos. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

VentureDive has developed the frontend of our product. They’ve created the code in our repositories. We then review and incorporate it into our own codebase. They’ve since found a market fit for it and have been building its proof of concept (POC). They use React.js for the frontend and GraphQL for backend communication. 

What is the team composition?

We work with two people from VentureDive. One is the tech lead, and the other is the senior software engineer. 

How did you come to work with VentureDive?

They were hired before my time in the company but were probably referred to the firm. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them around June 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We have a quarterly release schedule, and we’ve never had any late or missed deliveries. Our team has also found no significant issues in VentureDive’s deliverables. Overall, they deliver everything on time without bugs. 

How did VentureDive perform from a project management standpoint?

They meet deadlines and stay within our budget. We have daily meetings and use Jira to manage the project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

VentureDive’s commitment to timelines and quality is much better than other third-party vendors. The team is extremely attentive, always checking in to see if there’s additional work we’d like them to do.

No, there aren’t any.

Engage with VentureDive at the team level. You’ll get much value out of them that way.

I am the Director of Delivery at Ona, a technology social enterprise that builds solutions for governments, NGOs, UN agencies, and research institutions to improve delivery of essential services in low- and middle-income countries.

Ona builds custom data collection apps on our OpenSRP platform. VentureDive provides software engineering and project management services to help us deliver on our client projects.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found out about VentureDive from a software engineer that Ona had worked with for a long time, and was one of the original developers of the OpenSRP platform. She left her previous company and moved to VentureDive. Given our positive experience working with her, we had confidence that VentureDive's other team members would be able to perform at similar levels of excellence.

VentureDive engineers are assigned to various OpenSRP projects. We mainly use GitHub and Slack for communication and task management.

Initially, we engaged 3 engineers from the VentureDive team but have increased our collaboration together. At present, we have a team of 12 VentureDive team members working with Ona. Most of the VentureDive team members are Android engineers, but we are also working with a technical architect, project manager, web engineer, and test automation engineer.

The VentureDive team supports a number of projects at Ona. They are valuable members of the team that have helped us deliver on our client software solutions and improve code coverage of products in development.

The VentureDive team has been receptive to Ona's ways of working and uses the same tools and platforms that we do, such as GitHub, Slack and Google Drive.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The nature of Ona's contracts mean that we often to shift resourcing between projects at short notice. They're flexible and adaptive in responding to changing priorities and competing demands with a positive attitude.

Our application launch was a complete success and had very low friction with initial users.

The PM was fantastic and always communicated in a timely manner. They scheduled the right amount of calls and were very clear and responsive in slack.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their mobile app development, UI/UX, and QA teams always impress us.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

They were great for projects that were well defined and had small overlap with our existing infrastructure. Their DevOps team was good at supporting internal developers within VentureDive, but we found that they were lacking experience when it came to supporting modern cloud infrastructure best practices.

We wanted to develop a mobile application that provides mental wellness services. Our goal was to have a simple, easy to use app that can be easily navigated by laymen who have had no prior experience of using such online services. A major requirement was for the app to display multiple languages which may not follow the english alphabet.

VentureDive is quite well-known in the market here and enjoy a solid reputation. They would appear in the top 3 list of vendors for mobile app development.

A one week discovery workshop was conducted to hash out all application requirements. A detailed report along with sample wireframes were presented. We worked on the wire-frames and screen designs with Venture Dive's team. Final requirements were passed onto the software team which re-validated them and started their work. We got weekly updates and test versions of the app. Overall the app took 2 months to build and roll-out to stores. Tech stack used was ReactNative for FE / JAVA Springboot for BE

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Main POC was the Project Manager. Additionally we had a group on Slack where the Lead Architect and the Business Analyst would ask questions for clarity. We also interacted with the lead developer for setting up our apple/google environments etc.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The app has generally received very positive feedback. We delayed the digital marketing campaign for a month or so as we werent sure whether to launch globally, or in a particular country to start with. The response after our marketing campaign has been phenomenal. We have received over 5K downloads within 3 weeks and a 4.5 star rating, in a market where the concept of mental wellness is relatively unknown.

Project Manager was quite responsive and held weekly meetings for updates. In case clarity was required, adhoc meetings would also be setup. We used slack for communications, basecamp for tasks and file sharing and Google drive for storing all project documentation. Timelines were adhered to by and large. There were a couple of hiccups that are normal for projects, but overall we met our timelines.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The level of ownership taken by the team is phenomenal. Never did I feel I wasn't getting support, even after the project was completed. This is why we have retained VD for providing ongoing support. Secondly their resources are top-notch.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We did have a few disagreements on features where we thought something was in-scope whereas VD team said it wasn't. There were times we felt something is "naturally" in scope even if its not explicitly written down. Perhaps before every sprint, a short feature discussion can be done to just clarify expectations on specific functionality, while keeping it in the scope of the project.

I am engineering manager for one of our core teams. We provide IoT solutions to modernise automotive industry, trucking in particular.

Target was to deliver 5 support tools and some additional work. Delivery of each tool was a milestone. Tools were built using RoR. Project planning and execution was done using SCRUM.

2 persons for first 5 months. 1 person for last month. Mid-Level RoR backend engineers.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Team was able to complete all 5 support tools. These tools are now actively used by our support team to resolve customer outreaches.

Project management was done in house. VD was not involved in this process. Communication channel was primarily email. Coupled with bi-weekly calls.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Collaboration and coordination with VentureDive Pvt. Ltd. were seamless. All the challenges that we faced along the way were entertained and resolved in timely and collaborative manner.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

There was need for 1 more RoR resource of same level. But through VD, we could not find one that fit our needs. RoR resources are not in abundance, but being a company that has to deal with clients working with all sorts of technologies, they should build resource pool with unique skills up front.

I am the general manager of a religious resource platform. We have a website and a couple of mobile apps that provide different kinds of information to Muslims.

What challenge were you trying to address with VentureDive Pvt. Ltd.?

We initially hired a small team to work in-house. We built our apps using PHP technology. However, we decided that we needed to bring in an outside vendor to help us with more advanced technical development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The information we provide to our users is mostly related to prayer times and religious events. There is a lot of calculation involved on the backend side which calculates the timings and dates for prayer by checking the user information. We have a couple of other features like online community public forums and blogs as well as other things. 

They started working on our website first. They moved our website from PHP to Java. We give them the requirements and they do all the coding. 

They developed our applications from scratch. The apps were developed for iOS as well as Android. They used Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS. We provided them with the design, and they did all the development. 

What is the team composition?

It varies. We started with two people and we gradually increased the numbers. At this point in time, I believe there are 14 people working with us. Some of them are seniors, some are juniors, and one of them is playing a CTO role for us. There are a couple of people that are managing different teams with one managing the QA team. There are also some iOS developers, Android developers, QA engineers, and web frontend developers. A year ago, we had 18 people working for us when we had more work to do.

How did you come to work with VentureDive Pvt. Ltd.?

One of our co-founders was a classmate of one of the VentureDive co-founders which is how we got connected. We asked if they could help, and they agreed.

How much have you invested in them?

It is roughly around $3 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2015, and our work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We faced a couple of challenges in the first few months. The performance of our website was not that great, but then they really picked up the pace and the quality. Our apps are updated with all the latest iOS and Android requirements. The website is very crisp and has good performance metrics. I think it is now very good, but initially, we did face those issues. Overall, when looking at the five years of working with them, I think it has been a great journey.

How did VentureDive Pvt. Ltd. perform from a project management standpoint?

They have built a good relationship with us. It has been very transparent. Sometimes we have to make changes in the releases and in the product environment, which is normal and they are very accommodating in that area. If they see any issues in the deployment dates, or if there is an employee that is working with us that leaves the company or is going on a long vacation, they have been very accommodating and provide alternative solutions. I think it has been very good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our apps have been very good. We had been struggling with how to centralize the whole design system for our apps as well as for the website. They came up with the solution to build a design system, and they implemented it in our apps as well as our website. In our opinion, it has been a game-changer. They have been very helpful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They have been doing a good job. If they weren’t not fulfilling our needs, I believe we would not still be working with them for all these years.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I don’t have any specific advice, but I think that getting all the information from them about what exactly they will be doing for your project is very important. When starting to work with them on any feature or module, it is important for us that we make sure that they have understood all the requirements as well as documented everything so it would be easy for us to make sure we are going in the right direction in terms of development and the timeline.

What were your goals for this project?

"Our aim is to revolutionize the financial sector by providing swift and frictionless financial access to the unbanked and under-banked by leveraging upon the power of digital and transcending the masses from a state of financial vulnerability to economic empowerment.

With this aim in mind, VentureDive was chosen as Tez Financial Services’ technology partner to design and develop the Tez platform. The goal of this project was to develop a comprehensive and forward-looking solution that catered to the needs of both internal and external users.

The collaboration between Tez and VentureDive is a Software Development Engagement whereby Venture provided technology development as well as design services to Tez for the development of the Tez Android mobile application. This entailed both front-end and back-end development.

VentureDive was responsible for the deisgn and development of the Tez app. Since Tez is an all-digital platform, the launch of the company was entirely dependent on the app being develped hence VentureDive played a pivotal role.The Tez app has had a Playstore rating of over 4.0 since its been growing and continues to have a healthy NPS.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Our team at VentureDive employed Agile product development methodology to manage the project and used tools like Jira to assist in efficient management of deadlines.

Furthermore, frequent meetings were held between the VentureDive and Tez teams to ensure clear communication of business need and the translation into a technology platform.

Full support was extended throughout the project by the Senior Management of VentureDive to ensure that the project objectives were met in an efficient and timely manner. The project management was highly effective in developing our product with the required features.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

"The most impressive aspect of VentureDive is their quality of HR and the involvement of their teams to fully understand the business goals of their partner companies so that they are aligned in the vision and hence can deliver prooducts in the most effective manner.

In case of Tez, VentureDive allocated a team of highly talented people who adapted to the Tez culture and were able to meet deadlines set by the management. The team took self-initiative on various aspects of the product to ensure efficient delivery and development."

"One area that could be strengthened is documentation. This could entail documentation around the product development cycle, codes being used, changes in code across time, the bugs/ isuees and resolution, and other important communication around the platform.
