This project was a journey with an internal client without a clear idea of what they wanted at the outset. Following an initial ask of video from a fundraising walk, the client accepted a proposal for VCM and I to develop a suite of 13 videos in English and French of vary lengths and formats for broadcast, online and social media. What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The outcomes were the suite of video products in English and French that we can now use to promote our annual Gutsy Walk event every June. Surprisingly, despite it having started in 1996, we do not have video products with which to promote the event, mainly online. With a wide selection of lengths (from 6-60 seconds), we now have a well produced and engaging suite of products to use and test to find which delivers the most value.

Given the informal approach of the internal client, the strategic steps along the way were driven by VCM and I. So it was a project that went through a number of stages as it went along. VCM was able to adapt to this approach. VCM delivered their items on time per agreed upon schedules and their commitments. They were responsive to our needs and quick to answer queries.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

VCM understands the video needs of smaller orgs like ours. They were responsive to the creative vision of the overarching project and added value to bring that vision to life. The commitment to outstanding deliverables was steady at every step of the journey.

As we debriefed with them, earlier heads ups about items that had cost implications would have been welcome given this organization being a charity and rigour around any spending. But this had no impact on the outcome of the project.

The video and audio work that was done was impeccable. Paul and his team were professional, knowledgeable, and fully capable. Measurable outcomes are the 25 videos we were able to complete based on the footage gathered by the VCM team.

Most impressive was the degree to which they worked collaboratively with us to ensure the end product was technically good while still meeting our vision.

While excellent to work with, this was the first time going through this process for us. I would have been beneficial to have been provided a clear set of expectations by VCM for us so that we know what was needed of our team before it was needed. Having no idea what to expect, at the start of the process, it was, at times, felt as if we should have already known what we were doing / was expected of us.

I'm the marketing specialist for an industrial automation/engineering company. We hired VCM to record our yearly company conference, which included roughly 350x people from around Ontario and Manitoba. We wanted VCM to showcase the event, and it's messaging in order to showcase our accomplishments and upcoming initiatives for internal awareness and external brand awareness.

With the conference being 350x employees, there was a lot of moments and messaging to capture all at once, VCM was able to capture the messaging and the emotion of the event.

Initially it was through google... We have used VCM to capture many of our events, including our recruitment video, which really showcases our capabilities as a company in a very professional manner. VCM understands our company messaging and values at this point which makes it much easier to work with.

VCM goes through a vigorous process to really understand not only our company but the project itself. They speak to many different people to understand the nature of the shots, messaging etc. to ensure that what they're filming is in alignment with our desired outcome. They are very clear with their questions through the shooting and post-production process. V

I have worked with the Sr Producer Paul a majority of the time, but have worked closely with Erin as well during a majority of the shoots. The last project included 4x videographers for the larger event.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

CM makes sure we are 100% happy with the final product from each step of the process. They aren't happy with the final cut until you are. People within our company and customer alike are always impressed with how well the video looks and how well it conveys the messaging. There is always emotion conveyed with each project, this one is probably one of the best.

Paul and his team are always on point throughout the entire shoot. For this particular project the shoot was 12hrs, and they were on point the entire time without slowing down. They were always looking for the next shot, waiting for the right time to capture a moment. Excellent communication as usual, without making it hard on us to make the decisions. They knew what made for good video and were pretty self sufficient.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They take the time to understand your vision and make it a reality. They ask a lot of questions at first, but it's all for good reason, as they truly want to understand what you want to achieve from the video. No matter the request, VCM would always "make it happen".

For what projects/services did your company hire VCM Interactive Inc., and what were your goals?

We were introducing a new line of Products. Mixes On Exit. An innovative consumer product that automatically mixes concentrate with water as it sprays. The challenge was for VCM to show the inner workings of Mixes On Exit through the use of animation so our audience can visualize the uniques way this product works. The video had to be brief and a number of important features had to be accurately discribed in simple terms.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

It was VCM's portfolio that sold me. They proved through their previous work that they could do exactly what I was looking for using 3D animation to tell the story.

We started with Discovery. We determined the best approach to tell the story and what resources from my engineering Department would be needed.I worked on the script and my engineering team sent the SolidWork files to VCM to manipulate to build the animation. We provide existing in-use footage of the product. I worked with VCM to choose voice over talent. They worked closely with me to develop the correct path of fluids traveling through the sprayer to create the product animation. At the end of the day they provided me with a finished promotional/instructional video that does exactly what I needed it to do... explain the unique functionality of the Mixes On Exit products.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

Paul handled the project for VCM. Paul was great to work with. He asked all the right questions and provide me with everything I needed to make the process easy. When we got into the technical aspects of the engineering of the product, Paul arranged for the VCM animator and a Chapin Engineer to be part of our web meeting to get the information directly from and to the experts involved in the production process.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are currently using the video online to better sell on e-comm sites and our sales force utilizes it when talking to buyers. We also use it at trade shows and our technical support staff has it as a resource when troubleshooting with consumers.

The process was simple and easy - Paul, lead the effort as the product/production manager. He held timely meetings and kept us on track to provide what was needed from us in a timely fashion. Everything happened like clockwork.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was most impressed by the talent that came from the animators and how well they could create the cut-away views and show moving liquid through the device.

Our company was a sponsor at a diversity and procurement fair, and we hired VCM Interactive to help with live video production. Their team was on-site and helped us to record over 20 4k quality videos that featured corporate procurement leaders and diverse owned businesses.

Our company had to fly to Toronto for this fair, and VCM was a company we found in the area on google.com.

The process was very smooth. I spoke with their team and explained what I was working to accomplish. They then walked me through the equipment that would be required to achieve the end goal. On-site setup was also straightforward... they were experts with the lighting and acoustics of the area we were filming. Post production was very interactive as well, and their team maintained constant communication with me to ensure I was happy with the results.

I worked with Paul. This guy was absolutely amazing. It was almost as if he were a member of my own internal team with how accommodating he was through the entire process.

The project was so successful, that the organization that put on the procurement fair is interested in hiring me to be the host of their own branded video series.

Communication was constant via email and phone. Timeliness was quick as well.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

How accommodating they were. The procurement fair ran a little late both days, and by the end of it ended up being roughly 16 hours in total. The team from VCM stuck around the whole time without any issue, working diligently to ensure that they captured all of the appropriate content my team would need.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the director of customization and shared services for an animal by-product manufacturing firm. We take animal by-products that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. We convert them into value-added proteins and fats for the agribusiness food chain. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with VCM Interactive Inc.?

There was a regulatory appeal that we had to address, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tribunal members couldn’t visit our facility to understand its operations. As a result, we needed VCM to create a virtual tour of not only the facility and its internal operations but also the surrounding area.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

VCM created a 30–40-minute video that we'd used in a hearing to present the facility and its surrounding area and location. The video also covered everything from the receipt of the raw materials to processing the finished goods. The deliverable itself was a high-resolution video that contained aerial drone footage. They provided all of the equipment needed for video and sound editing. 

What is the team composition?

I worked with Paul (Producer, Director & Videographer), who served as our main point of contact. We also worked with two technical videographers and a sound engineer. 

How did you come to work with VCM Interactive Inc.? 

We found VCM on Google by searching videographers in the Toronto region. We found a total of three firms, but VCM had the best description in terms of filming; they also had a few video clips inside manufacturing facilities. I connected with them, and they provided a detailed proposal to us. Our firms signed an NDA as part of the regulatory appeal. From there, we determined the scope of the project, deliverables, and action plan. That was how engagement started. 

How much have you invested with them?

We invested about $28,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The engagement lasted from September 2021–February 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The video was produced with high quality, and it met all of our expectations. 

How did VCM Interactive Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was top-notch. We communicated by email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

VCM was fully engaged in the project. They provided suggestions on how to best film our facility — I was the technical expert in the organization, but I wasn’t good at producing videos and deciding what pictures to show. They worked collaboratively with us, and they were highly professional. 

They were also fastidious in terms of quality. Often, they would shoot a particular system or piece of equipment 2–3 times, and then they’d ask us if the shots met our requirements. Even when I said yes, they’d do it again if the quality wasn’t good enough. In other words, they met my standards and ensured they also met their internal standards, resulting in a high-quality product.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there weren’t any. They provided great value for what we invested; we’d use them again if we ever have to do this again in the future.

Know what you want. Have a vision, and VCM will help bring it to life. You have to understand what you’re asking them to do, and they’ll help you.

I am the Environmental Manager of a rendering company, with multiple facilities within Canada.

We wanted to create a video that could explain the process of one of our facilities, from receipt of raw materials to shipping out of the final product, as well as showcase all environmental ancillary operations that are part of the facility.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

The vendor showcased a lot of experience with creating videos like the one we required.

There was an introductory meeting to explain what we were looking for. This was followed by spending 3 days filming around the facility (inside and out). The crew took multiple takes, and even if we thought the clip was good enough they striped for excellence and re-took the shot to better showcase in the video. After filming was done the sequence of the shots and the voice over was decided by us. VCM sent multiple versions of the video, and each time we provided comments and feedback for alterations that VCM promptly performed. The voice I've was recorded in their studio. The final product was amazing, and exceeded our expectations.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We mostly worked with Paul Nandrajog. He was a pleasure to work with, very responsive and quick to address any changes or comments we had. He was constantly looking for our feedback to make sure that he was providing us exactly what we wanted.

The video was a success within the organization, and will be a very useful tool to train new recruits and outsiders on what the facilities do.

The team was very easy to communicate with. We received very timely responses, at times even late in the day. Communication was open, friendly and frank. Communication tools used where email and phone calls.

We were impressed by the high level of detail of the employees. They scrutinized their work and had a lot of pride in it. Even if we thought a shot was good enough they were not satisfied with the quality and would retake the shot to get the quality needed. The VCM team did a phenomenal job with the video production, the motion graphics and video editing.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

The while process was seemless and easy. We are very happy we choose them, the end product went above and beyond our expectations
