Unvoid provided multiple engineers who integrated directly with our in-house team. Their work included building integrations with external data and device providers, contributing to AI-related features for our threat detection system, implementing frontend functionality in React, and backend services in Golang and Rust. They also participated in planning discussions and contributed to architectural decisions alongside our internal team.

They integrated so smoothly it felt like they were part of Frenos from the beginning. The breadth of expertise across frontend, backend, and AI was also impressive.

I'm highly likely to recommend Unvoid to other companies. Especially for founders that want to scale their engineering team quickly with reliable developers who integrate like in-house staff and contribute beyond just execution. They gave us speed, reliability, and talent exactly when we needed it.

The quality of each of their processes is incredibly informative and detailed.  Nothing is confusing as they explain everything to you, every step of the way.  They are never rushed or rush you.   Each team member treats you with the utmost curteousy and respect and will explain every item to you, without you having to know their industry terms, which is very, very helpful.  

Are there any areas for improvement or something Unvoid could have done differently?

We agreed to be billed using a task point system.  The only thing that I would suggest is the possibilty of showing the dollar amount equated next to each numberof task points as you view them.  However, as a business owner, I would understand that displaying the costs in front of other employees who should not be privy to this info, is therefore not desirable.

Unvoid will estimate work for each engineering task assigned to them and submit those estimates for our approval. Once we approve the task points attributed to a task, they will work on it until its complete. Once complete, they will submit the code changes for review by our engineering team and provide a testing environment for our design team. 

Our engineers can request code changes and our designers can request behavior changes and bug fixes during this review process. Once both teams approve of the work, they will be paid based on the number of task points originally agreed upon for the task.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Unvoid was able to increase our engineering velocity and decrease costs while also taking on code debt tasks we haven't been able to prioritize internally. The project has been a success so far and we're very happy to be working with Lucas and the team! They've shown responsiveness, drive, and accountability unlike any other software development agency we've worked with, and done so with a pay structure that favors the client much better than an hourly pay structure.

Unvoid has been terrific with regards to project management. We receive regular communication and make decisions together if a change is required in the plan. 

Our needs are always put first, and they always take a long term view of our business relationship. At times they have needed to roll up their sleeves to get things over the hill for us, and have done so without hesitation or any prompting from me! They have an entrepreneurial spirit that makes for a job well done.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their payment structure is entirely unique in the industry. They don't use hourly pricing or project-based pricing, which have both proved problematic in my 10+ years managing engineering teams across the world. At Unvoid, a performance based pricing modal is in place where they get paid per task point estimated for a task, and we only pay once we're moving forward with their work. 

This incentivizes us to be thorough in our handovers and review processes, and incentivizes them to both move quickly and provide high quality work. It's a very client-friendly model and has been a useful way for us to extend our internal team's velocity.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Unvoid could have done differently?

We realized recently we were not sharing two-way feedback regularly and there were some important process changes that resulted from us doing that more often. This feedback goes both for them and us, but we should made this a regular practice from the start.
