 I'm the chief business officer of Blade Labs, a fintech company developing purpose-built infrastructure that merges DLT, smart contracts, and AI orchestration to deliver Shariah-compliant financial solutions. As a Qatar Development Bank portfolio company, we're transforming how Islamic and ethical finance operates.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Unibrix?

 We needed help building the infrastructure of our platform, integrating it into the private permissioned network, managing the network, and launching it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

 Unibrix has been tasked with building, launching, and managing our product. Their work includes core infrastructure development, digital document management, application interfaces, financing product implementation, security and compliance architecture, data architecture, and integration framework. Regarding core infrastructure development, Unibrix has implemented a decentralized identifier (DID) system. They've also developed verifiable credentials (VC) infrastructure for ownership and lien status tracking. In addition, they've built credential issuance, revocation, and lifecycle management systems and integrated JSON-LD contexts for Islamic finance-specific credential types. Unibrix has also deployed smart contract infrastructure on a permissioned blockchain. 

What is the team composition?

 We work with 10–25 teammates from Unibrix, depending on our business needs.

How did you come to work with Unibrix?

We found them through a referral. Unibrix has a unique combination of skill, speed, flexibility, and value. Over the last four years, they've consistently achieved the goals we've set out and have always tailored their solutions, approach, and team to our business and project requirements.

What is the status of this engagement?

 We started working with them in January 2022, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

 Unibrix has launched products, paying customers, secured technology grants, and accepted in the Qatar fintech sandbox. They've built the fastest-growing digital wallet on the Hedera network, responsible for over half of all account creations on the entire network at its peak. We've created over 4 million accounts via Blade Wallet technology. We've secured multiple technology grants and hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual recurring revenue from B2B embedded wallet technology products and services. We've also been selected to build a digital wallet solution for LG Electronics in our first year of operation. Moreover, we've been accepted to QFC Digital Asset Lab sandbox after launching the world's first embedded Islamic fintech platform. We've also announced the launch of the Digital Receipt System with AlRayan Bank. Additionally, we've won the International Grand Prize for the Islamic finance platform at Finopitch Tokyo 2025 and the Best Islamic Fintech Startup at Islamic Fintech Awards Dubai 2025 for our Islamic finance platform.

How did Unibrix perform from a project management standpoint?

 Unibrix has very strong project management. They consistently deliver on time and manage expectations proactively. We communicate via regular Zoom calls and Slack. We also speak on daily calls every morning with team leads.

What did you find most impressive about them?

 Unibrix's ability to find and allocate highly skilled resources for bleeding-edge enterprise technology development in blockchain and AI is incredible. We consistently work in uncharted territories on technology or products that don't exist currently, requiring a unique combination of adaptability, creativity, and talent. Unibrix has this in spades. All of this is delivered at very cost-effective rates. Apart from all of that, the team is a joy to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

 There's nothing Unibrix could have done better or differently.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The measureable outcomes was to update API for one of the sofwares we use, which was a success and another one was to fix and put to prod the Social media feature which was also a success.

Denis is great, he has full understanding of the project and the scope, he also knows what to do and when to do it. He lets you know about what is going on and what is needed and why things are delayed or if things are moving quicker.
