BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of AppLabs Limited. Our company makes apps for customers within North America and Europe. The apps include enterprise and consumer applications as well as internal SDKs [software development kit] and websites.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Tupple Apps?

Vabo is one of our products, which has a similar concept to the uberization of scientists and physicists. The purpose of the app is to provide users the ability to schedule appointments with spa professionals who can come to their home and deliver the services. We needed help with the development of the product because I’m the only developer on our team. My team consists mostly of project managers and QA.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tupple Apps did the website, backend, and Android development. Since I’m also a developer, I worked alongside them to make sure the quality was intact. We performed quality checks each week and any issues were addressed in the next build. It was a very Agile and iterative process. There were things I requested that couldn’t be done because the technology wasn’t there yet, but Tupple Apps made suggestions to work around that. They’ve also done small projects for us since this project was completed.

How did you come to work with Tupple Apps?

I found them online. They were referred by clients I had worked with in the past. After I talked with them, they scoped out the requirements and gave me a rough estimate. I got that approved by the board and hired them to start working.

How much have you invested with Tupple Apps?

We spent around $10,000 with Tupple Apps.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2016, and the project was completed in November 2016. I plan to continue working with them on other projects.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

They were professional and experienced. There were no issues with the quality of the work because I made sure that everything was tested as the app was developed. We haven’t launched the app yet so we don’t have any metrics.

How did Tupple Apps perform from a project management standpoint?

I was the project manager and communicated with their team through Slack and Skype. They were available at any time of day. Their expertise in turnkey solutions is to hit the ground running, and they delivered the project on time.  That was something I really liked and I look forward to working with them on other projects.

What did you find most impressive about Tupple Apps?

I like their ability to come in, get the job done, and get out. I’ve worked with a lot of companies where you have to spend a lot of time with them and then the code isn’t up to par. Whenever I requested a change with Tupple, they gave suggestions on how to integrate it and gave me an estimate on the cost.

Are there any areas Tupple Apps could improve?

They could learn more technologies. There were times we had to choose different technologies because their expertise was limited to 10 or 15 languages. They didn’t have the brand-new language that just came on the market. Some clients of mine request certain languages so it would be good for Tupple Apps to acquire more resources that are versed in all the languages that are available. They’re a small company so it’s difficult to scale like that.
