We contracted TechNerds to develop a mobile application that includes backend APIs for rental payments, location services for equipment locating, and automated messaging services.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project was dropped by TechNerds Inc. without notice after paying for the full contract development. We received the source code that was less than 50% complete even with TechNerds missing the target delivery timeline by 2 months. The original contract was supposed to take 5 months. 7 months later and after paying for the full contract, we are without a product. When we requested a refund for part of the contracted payments, TechNerds declined to reimburse us.

TechNerds at first was relatively responsive, but as time went on, I had to prompt them multiple times for updates, call meetings with their management to try to discuss paths to resolution, and ultimately remind them of the contract and the agreed items, but ultimately I believe I was ignored during the process, especially after the first month.

They could have completed our project, or even been transparent that they weren't going to finish it. A refund would have been appreciated.

Our campaign website was from 2013, and it looked like it. The site loaded slow, had a lot of glitches in the code, and looked old. Tech Nerds gave us a new interface, matched our logo to the color scheme, and made sure it loaded as quickly as it should.

We sent out an RFP on a number of platforms, and reviewed proposals from about 10 vendors. In the end, TechNerds' approach to walk me through the proposal, talk to me about the project, and create a project team for us won me over.

After a meeting to discuss the site and the goals we had, we received weekly updates and a Skype chat with the development team directly. The updates included a progress report and a draft website within just two weeks. From there, we've kept connecting online and receive weekly updates throughout.

We worked with an account manager, a project manager, and a 2 person design team to work on our site.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Tech nerds helped us fix our campaign website, and have been amazing to work with. Their team communicates with mine weekly, has been on time throughout the whole project, and did a great job with the design of our unique site. I would work with TechNerds Again.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow has been really effective. My team has been able to review the work, provide feedback, and have changes made to the draft site immediately. TechNerds Inc. was virtually available around the clock to meet our needs.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I found it impressive that they hit the ground running so quickly. I expected this process to take at least a month longer than the roadmap we've had, and I expected our subject matter to be harder to work with.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I think my only change would be to allow more options for communication. My team regularly uses other platforms to connect, so adding Skype into my workflow was initially difficult. But after about a day, this was not a problem.

I’m the owner and operator of Surfside Home Inspections. We provide home inspection services for people trying to purchase homes and acquire insurance.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with TechNerds Inc.? 

We needed a more efficient mobile app for performing home and insurance inspections.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built our mobile app from scratch, devising the UX/UI, color scheme, and more based on the general requirements I gave them. They came up with several design options, and I chose one to move forward with. 

Our main feature requirement is that the app has to be dynamically interactive. We’re filling out insurance forms provided by the state or insurance companies in the apps, and they had to be dynamically interactive, versus just interactive. Interactive means that users can fill out blank spaces and image fields. Dynamically interactive means you can add more image fields as you fill out the form. We also have electrical panel and air conditioning sections in our reports, and we need to be able to add more sections for additional electrical panels and air conditioning systems. 

Another big feature is that the photographs associated with each section needed to live within that section, rather than at the end of the entire report. Most industry reports have 80 photos bunched together at the end of the form, making it much harder for someone to review it. While you’re in the app, there are intuitive features that allow you to take photos and immediately assign them to the correct report. Users can move back and forth between different reports with ease. 

The app is for Android and iOS at the moment and we’ll be moving into development of a web version as our next phase.

We’re working with around 14 people on this project, including one main point of contact; I also have contact with about 2–3 senior developers and designers. The rest of the team is made up of junior resources.

We’ve spent between $25,000–$30,000 so far. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since June 2020. The app should be ready to launch in the next couple of weeks.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They’re very excited about it. We announced the upcoming launch at a conference about two months ago, and the response was extraordinarily positive. I have people calling me every other day asking when the app is coming because they need it so badly. The industry is filled with software that isn’t efficient at performing insurance inspections. 

The app is going to save about 50%–60% of users’ report writing time by auto-filling multiple reports for the same customer if they’re required.  

How did TechNerds Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re excellent. I’m very happy with their team’s responsiveness and problem-solving. If I come to them with a problem, they come up with a solution. 

We communicate mostly through a CRM system, but we also have Zoom and Skype meetings. TechNerds’ whole team sees the communications using these systems, which allows everyone to stay up to date. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Imran’s (Founder & CEO) attitude toward the project stands out. He measures his success solely based on the success of the product that he produces for the customer. This is a unique attitude. 

I found that the managers of a lot of development teams will devalue my feedback and be dismissive, but Imran is not like that. He and his team accommodate my requests regardless of the time associated with them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

QA is the one area that TechNerds Inc. needs a little improvement in. I send markup and feedback to them, and sometimes those points aren’t implemented. Additionally, it sometimes seems that they haven’t gone through and proofread their work. I’ve spoken directly with Imran about this, and he corrected those issues very quickly. He is extremely responsive to any feedback like this, asking me to come to him immediately with any concerns that I have to ensure that the project stays on track. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be engaged and active in the development if the deliverable is anything more complex than a two-page ad. Set aside time to give in-depth feedback. TechNerds enjoys working with me because I’m hands-on in my involvement in the project.

So I spent a lot of time researching web designers and it came down to two and I selected TechNerds. They were great to work with and I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing great web work done a reasonable price. They were also very knowledgeable and easy to get along with....no drama.

My advisor was Aqeeq. He was very attentive to my questions and concerns and always made sure I was happy with the design. There were some bumps here and there along the way like most jobs in business relationships.

To me what makes a company stand out above the rest, is how they handle those mistakes. TechNerds, proved they are a trust worthy company and didn't push me aside once they got my money.

They had great follow through and made sure things were corrected and I was a satisfied customer. That is hard to find these days. To me this is one of the most neglected aspects in business.

I feel I can trust them with my project and my investment. I will definitely use them again!!!

Read the reviews online and interviewed them along with a few other developers. Felt they didn't not over sale us and was able to express a clear methodology.

Complete review of existing site, developed a detailed task list of items needed to get the site functioning at a basic level and began building from there. Daily communication when needed and a weekly summary of what was accomplished and what was on the task list for the coming week.

This has been area of great satisfaction! Our first developers where difficult to reach, poor feedback and no written plan - the opposite is true for TechNerds. Great initial kickoff meeting, weekly updates and daily interaction when needed. All emails where answered quickly. When they would be closed for holidays there was plenty of advanced warning and when they returned we got notified.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Communication was excellent and the developers took every issue head-on and would work through them until they got them fully resolved. If they needed to work with the various 3rd party providers we are using for the site they tool the initiative to reach-out to them versus using us as the go to which was not efficient.

Honesty not one time did we every say "I wished..." It has been a very good working experience
