Techies App was our vendor for our app called Pet2u.

This app is a comprehensive app which includes many major modules which includes: 

1. User App: User use this app to perform many functions which includes: 
   (a) Order a transport (similar like Grab / Uber) but for pets and their pet owners.
   (b) Order a grooming service with our merchants and using our pet transport service to send back and forth to the merchant. User will be able to select time slots available, set by the merchant and the services down to 3 categories (levels) 
   (c) Order a booking of pet hotel offered by our merchants. User can also use our pet transport to send the pet back and forth to the merchant. 
   (d) Order an express service which uses our driver (motorcycle) to send items (pet food/toys/medicine) to their preferred location (In development currently: June 2024)
   (e) Mall: E-Commerce for all pet related products. (In development currently: June 2024)
   (f) Directory: A directory that list all our Pet Friendly Merchants with filter system for user to find nearby pet friendly establishments and events. (In development currently: June 2024
   (d) Use Pet2U coins as discount system, voucher system and referral system to refer new member to Pet2U. 
2. Merchant App: Merchant use this app to perform functions as below: 
   (a) Manage all the services provided by the merchant in Pet2U apps.

Overall, I would give a 8.5/10. 
The project has some delay but however, it also due to some changes in requirements that we need mid journey and the Techies team is willingly to support us to handle the changes. They are helpful and resourceful.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I would say their project manager. Over the course of the whole project, they have assigned two project managers to liaise with me over two phases. I found communicating with them was effective and we were able to add value to the progress to this project.

There were one module that took us quite some time to build was the "grooming" module. My suggestion for improvement is to have a detailed confirmation of this module with our team first before building the entire module. Actually it was an overseen from both parties which has some miscommunication in the process, causing some delay and rebuilding of some parts.

As clients, we want our vision of the app delivered and understood by the designer and other team members. For progress update meetings, it is sufficient only to have the project manager and head of the technical team join us.

High quality project management. Even they cannot deliver it on time since there's a few technical problems involve but they were so helpful until the end of go live date. They always responded to our needs on time and as fast as they can.

after discovery meeting, the team came out a wireframes very clearly, indicated all features and button up to industrial standard. setting up from backend, frontend and server side. all are delivered and all problems solved.

after 1month launched we have 6k downloads and 3k actual signups, with only minor errors to fix after launched. all main features, buttons and message are well dedicated.

we aren't from IT background, by providing some reference and layman terms, they will able to understand our requirement, and came out the result are much better than expectation.

nothing much, if would like to point out, after communication, they are working on the execution already, what could be improve if status reports on the progressive would be perfect. even timeline are met, status updates can keep client informed.

We took the services from the techies to rewamp our platform by building the platform from scratch using microservices for the back end with added features to the platform. This is to move away from the current platform that we built using less scalalble tech stack by moving into international market and having the microservices for further scalability and reliability for the application system

The Tech Enginners at techiesapp seemed to be very professional and also very knowledgable and experts at their craft. Their vast amount of experience on different domains of web development which earned our trust and confidence about their capability to finish our product with clean, maintainable code and high quality of applciation development

We had a one week sprint which used to start off with a sprint planning and then sprint points were estimated for the tasks. We would also discuss about tasks breakdowns and create subtasks and then those tasks were discussed by the engineers and were assigned out after that.

Once the technical tasks were broken down, the figma links were attached to those jiras for the designs and prototypes for the engineers to refer to. For the technical tasks that didnt have any figma references, technical specifications were laid out in the jira descriptions.

We also practices code reviews and before any code was pushed to either the staging or the production branches, they code was reviewed and following that, if required, the changes were made by the task owners

There was a project manager from techies who was the main technical and management person who i would interact with the most. But besides him we also had 2 more engineers who we would also talk to, specially during code reviews in case some issue arose when reviewing and testing the code

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

After launching the system the performance really went up and page responses were much faster, since it was built using single page application technologies and the back end was using microservices.

For the microservices that were not so frequetly used in the application for the api calls, we configured them in a way that made the billing for the aws services much lower.

To be more precise, the page loads and server response improved up to 70 to 80 % and the AWS billing went down by 40% We also saw an increase of satisfaction of customers with the new system by close to 70%

We had scrum 3 times a week. The communication tools that we mostly used were slack and whatsapp. For the tasks managment we used jira and for the styles and prototypes we used figma

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their knowledge and experience in building and deploying projects into cloud providers were very impressive. Also their openess for code reviews and refactoring the code very fast to meet the code quality and standards discussed during the code reviews was also very impressive

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Although there were some minor bugs found during the code reviews and the first deployment on staging, those bugs got resolved by techies really really fast so cant really think of anything signifigant that can be highlighted to the techies to improve upon.

During the project kickstart, Techies App will have a session to deeply understand our business requirements and needs. After that they will come back with a few approaches & screen mock ups for us to tap the market quickly. It’s a cloud-based product hosted on GCS.

For backend, they are using Java as per advised by my technical team. Lastly, they also developed a content management system that would allow our internal operation team to manage and make small changes by ourselves.

There were 4 people in the core team, including a project manager, full stack developer, tester and UI UX designer.

We had 1-2 iterations on the portal and eventually we were able to launch the portal on time. After the project go live, we managed to get additional source of revenue for company. After that, Techies App also continue helping us to develop extra features to tap into another market.

Main communication in between us are between emails, Skype and direct calls. Main tools that they uses including Jira, Excel spreadsheets, and google drive. That works for us very well.

During the project kick start, we truly appreciate that they taking the time to understand what we wanted and what we were looking for. They were flexible whenever we asked for changes and they were able to stay organized. There have been changes and tweaks that were made, but overall, they did a great job and it has been a very smooth process.

Once a requirement is documented and discussed, the team was very quick to understand and visualize the end-solution. They spent time in building early prototypes to ensure their understanding is aligned to the customer's.

The end product is a mobile apps for logistic services which is used by end-consumers and the ability to interface with various logistics providers based on the RESTful and XML SOAP APIs.

we have installed the system on AWS cloud successfully, and deployed the system to 8 customer sites. Todate the system is functioning as expected.

Probably a more comprehensive testing strategy, but it didn't give us a lot of issues, as in any development, there are bound to be bugs, etc. the most important is the developer's ownership which in this case TechieApp demonstrated perfectly in rectifying and resolving the issues accordingly.
