TechAhead has designed and developed a mobile application for us. Initially, we had two brainstorming sessions to discuss the project, and then they sent me an offer. After that, we went into the business gathering requirements phase and documented everything on Microsoft Teams and email.

The team has been responsible for the UX/UI design and development. TechAhead has created the app from scratch based on my requirements, and the team has shared the designs with me for approval before moving on to the development phase. The app is a football trivia app, and the team has deployed it using AWS.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2024, and the engagement is ongoing. We’re currently in the final stages of the project, and the app will go into production in January 2025. We’re planning to start a second phase of the project with TechAhead.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

TechAhead has met and exceeded our expectations. The team is active during our discussions and brainstorming, and provides good suggestions. The app is compatible with the Apple Store and Android policies, and it’s working fine.

How did TechAhead perform from a project management standpoint?

TechAhead has met the deadlines. We’ve used Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, and email for communication. The team has been very professional and has introduced everyone on their team. However, I think the team could improve the testing process by providing a proper checklist. Currently, we have to test everything from A to Z, and it would be better if TechAhead told us what we need to test.

We've had some issues with a project manager and experienced slow development. However, we've mentioned this situation, and TechAhead has addressed it by assigning a new project manager, and things have been perfect since.

We planned to release the app in December, but due to the vacation period, we've had a delay and haven't gone live yet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

TechAhead is smart and provides options and scenarios for what we want to do. The team is very fast in their response and delivers work outside the scope, which has been remarkable. TechAhead has met and exceed the client's expectation.  there is no area for improvement at this time as the team is already performing at their best. they meet all the deadlines and maintain high quality of product

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’m doing most of the translation for the project, and I think it would be a good added value for TechAhead to hire someone who speaks Arabic. Nonetheless, TechAhead is fast to deliver when you ask for a feature or further development, and they provide good quality. TechAhead has a good vision of where they're going, which is something we like.

For example, music creators can upload videos similar to TikTok or Instagram. We’ve also discussed the size of those videos, the different servers, and the infrastructure.

Our platform is built on mobile technology for Apple and Google mobile development. We’re also using Flutter and Node.js. We leverage Amazon AWS technology stacks for everything from database management to serverless computing to API integrations and interfaces, cold storage or physical storage, as well as the virtualization of content and data.

We’ve made our production push, and TechAhead is now in a postproduction role. The team is working on ongoing engineering, production support, infrastructure support, and monitoring and maintenance of all our technology components.

That’s the number one thing when you work with an offshore team: communication is usually the first point of failure. TechAhead’s communication is great. If they can’t meet a deadline, they notify us in advance and explain the reason.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

TechAhead has more than met my expectations — they're fantastic. The app isn’t ready yet, but we’re about 85% of the way there. We plan on launching in Miami in September 2025. I’m glad I chose them.

How did TechAhead perform from a project management standpoint?

They deliver on time and within budget. Everything they promised is happening. We have three stand-up meetings a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We use Jira and Microsoft Teams for project management and communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very proactive and on top of things. Anytime we need to reach out to them, they’re always there.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any.

Have your idea black and white for them. Don’t just give them something and expect them to do what your vision is. You have to sit down with them and take time to explain the vision and show mock-ups. Give them the right direction, and they’ll be 100% perfect.

We needed help developing an iOS and Android application to deliver exam prep questions to our customers. Individual students could buy those questions and prepare for their state board licensing exams.

What was the scope of their involvement?

techahead has helped us design and develop a mobile app. Since taking over as product manager, I've met weekly with techahead's staff and our internal staff to discuss the app's maintenance. This includes fixing bugs and developing new features. Our recent charge has been improving our app store score.

Moreover, techahead has been developing new features to increase the score, focusing on improving the app's marketing and functionality.

Some of the app's features and functionalities include the ability for students to take the tests we've already loaded into the app. This prepares them for specific state board exams, whether it's barbering, cosmetology, nails, or aesthetics. The app also allows students to create their own tests.

Currently, we have a maintenance agreement. The team maintains the tech stack and the application deployment anytime we make changes.

We meet weekly with a project manager and a tech architect who works on both the iOS and Android versions of the app. This person coordinates all of the engineering tasks for us.

I joined this specific application as a product manager a year and a half ago. The decision to engage them had already been made.

We pay them $2,000 per month, which is renewed yearly. So, around $24,000 a year.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Tech Ahead has successfully completed the app. In fact, its App Store score is 4.5 with 487 ratings. When I took over, it was around 3.5–3.8. We've been working on features with techahead, including a pop-up asking users to rate the app if they're having success with it. This encourages people to leave ratings if they're enjoying the app.

The Android Store rating has also improved significantly. It was around 2.8 before we installed the same pop-up feature. It's been a big improvement.

Overall, the quality of techahead's work has been successful. All the features they've developed since I've come on have been successful. We haven't had to go back and change the features and functionalities because they involve us in the QA process before releasing anything new. We have control over ensuring that the requested features are executed correctly. We're in maintenance mode now.

How did techahead perform from a project management standpoint?

Communication and timeliness are important for this application. It's a smaller application for our business, so it's not the main focus. However, anytime we ask for updates or for them to work a little more quickly, they accommodate us. We don't have to make improvements by a specific date, so the pace is leisurely. They get the work done and keep us updated, which is good. They've been helpful.

We primarily communicate through email and Slack. We also have weekly meetings on Microsoft Teams. We don't have any formal ticketing platform, so the communication is pretty informal.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their biggest strength is their ability to take the information we give them the first time and go with it. We don't have many formal communications, so we can basically tell techahead what we want. They go to work on it and come back to us when it's ready for testing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

More proactive communication would be helpful. When we ask for updates, they're able to provide them. However, sometimes if a project takes two or three weeks, we won't hear from techahead until the very end. It would be nice to get more regular communication, such as when they finish a part of the project.

Set expectations and communication norms right when you start. Make sure you're comfortable with that before you start executing the work. This can be a big factor regardless of who you're working with.

What was the scope of their involvement?

techahead has built a CMS for our corporate website. The CMS enables us to create more pages and add more images. It’s a cloud-based software that can accommodate a lot of traffic and has a high intensity of images and videos. 

So, after the credentials deck and understanding their process and how they do projects, we did a detailed scope of our project and what we wanted to achieve. 

We’ve given them a sitemap of what we want, and they’ve built the CMS based on that design. The team has also added a lot of value to the software to make it more user-friendly.

The CMS has 36 components that we can use to rebuild the website. For example, if we’ve done a certain fashion of components 4, 5, and 6, the next page can be 6, 3, and 2. It’s like a Lego.
They've been periodically taking us through it, auditing it, having a lot of back and forth.

techahead's ability to build is impressive. The team has great soft skills in CRM and responsiveness. Overall, they’ve built a good product, and we’re happy. Something that sets them apart is that they are available to take care of anything that you think is not right.

Be engaged in the briefing time and give techahead a great brief. If your brief isn’t clear, it’ll lead to a product that needs a lot of back and forth. You can ask for more recommendations, but you need to be very clear about what you want to achieve.

TechAhead has delivered quality work and functionality. The team is always patient with me and goes through multiple iterations to produce the desired results. If I were to learn how to code and try to do this myself, it would take at least a decade. I know I could do it on my own, but I don’t know how to quantify time or money saved with this project.

How did TechAhead perform from a project management standpoint?

Some back-and-forth communication has taken longer than I thought, but there’s never been a problem with getting the quality and functionality I want. TechAhead’s customer success manager understood my project immediately and started answering questions I didn’t even ask yet, anticipating problems I hadn’t thought of yet. As a result, I know I’m in good hands.

Moreover, TechAhead’s project manager is very good at liaising and speaking with developers. They also translate for me. I don’t know exactly how many people are working behind the scenes, but everything is going as expected in terms of deadlines and budget.

We use Microsoft Teams and Figma to share things, but Figma never loads on my desktop or phone. Once a week, I get lucky, and Figma loads on my computer.

What did you find most impressive about them?

TechAhead’s customer success manager understood my project immediately and started answering questions I didn’t even ask yet, anticipating problems I hadn’t thought of yet. As a result, I know I’m in good hands.

I sometimes have trouble understanding the team because they’re based in India, and the audio on my computer isn’t the best. However, we always get where we need to go.

techahead has been developing our mobile app. Initially, techahead sent me the scope of work and what they found after looking through what I submitted to them. They’ve also let me know what would be best for me moving forward. techahead sent me a price quote, the timeline, and a milestone breakdown. 

I provided techahead access to various hosting platforms, the Google and iOS applications, AWS, and GoDaddy. Our app serves as a virtual secretary for barbers and beauty professionals. Clients can use the app to book appointments without calling and interrupting the service. They can prepay and schedule their appointments based on the services provided by the professionals. The professionals can also set their availability and business hours.

All clients within their database can get push notifications when the stylist won’t be in for a day, a holiday, or a lunch break. This allows them to stay ahead of one another and be on the same page without any pushback or misinformation. 

Additionally, techahead has a marketing department that will help me with app store optimization.

How did you come to work with techahead?

I came across TechAhead through ChatGPT. I did different prompts, and techahead’s name kept coming up. I looked more into them and asked ChatGPT questions. It gave me the reassurance and confidence I needed to use them to finish this project.

techahead was the seventh development company I worked with. I started this project in 2019 through Upwork and kept running into a snag with each developer. I found a developer before techahead on a different website, and they couldn't accomplish what I needed. My customers have gotten used to the application. They often tell me it’s a good idea and that it would be nice if more barbers used that method.

I measure success by the app’s functionality. I’m testing it, and techahead is working on another app. They’re making another app while I’m using this one, so it doesn’t interrupt the flow.

techahead has stayed on budget and on time. We communicate through Microsoft Teams. techahead is transparent and clear in their communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with techahead’s professionalism. They explain exactly what’s going on, and there is no runaround. Each time they deliver something, I’m amazed. I’ve had no problems with any of that.

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on. They’re top-tier.
