The engagement covered discovery and UX research, design, development, AI implementation, and handover spanning the full project lifecycle from initial brief through to go-live.

Reduction in Tier-1 Support Tickets following deployment of the AI chatbot and RAG knowledge base, TAFE NSW saw a notable reduction in routine student enquiries reaching the support team, freeing staff to focus on complex, high-value cases.

The site met WCAG 2.1 AA standards post launch bringing TAFE NSW in line with government digital accessibility requirements.

Faster time to information for students, students were reaching course and enrollment information significantly faster.

Honestly, working with Tapo Digital was such a breath of fresh air. They were organised, responsive, and genuinely lovely to deal with the whole way through. Every milestone we agreed on at the start was hit on time, and whenever something needed adjusting they'd let us know straight away rather than leaving us in the dark, which I really appreciated.

Our team threw quite a few curveballs at them along the way, that's just the reality of working in a big public institution like TAFE, and they took it all in their stride without any fuss. If I ever had a question or needed something looked at, I'd hear back within a few hours, which isn't something you can take for granted with an agency. They just got on with it, kept us in the loop, and delivered. Couldn't ask for much more than that really.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What really stood out to me was how deeply the team understood the AI side of things. A lot of agencies will slap a chatbot on your website and call it a day, but Tapo Digital actually knew what they were doing at a technical level.

They walked us through the RAG architecture in plain language, explained how the retrieval pipeline worked, why grounding the chatbot in our own documentation mattered for accuracy, and what the risks were of not doing it properly. For someone in my role, that kind of transparency and genuine expertise is so reassuring. They weren't just implementing a tool, they understood the technology behind it and could have a real conversation about the tradeoffs. The team clearly keeps up with where AI is heading, not just where it's been, and that came through in every technical discussion we had. You could just tell they really know their stuff, and in a space that moves as fast as AI does, that makes a very big difference.

I think that's when it really stood out to me the difference that experience and the fact that both founders come from big tech software engineering backgrounds makes a difference. The technical rigour helped enormously with guiding us on making the best decisions around our own AI implementation.

Look, if I'm being really honest it's hard to find much to critique because the project went so smoothly overall.
