Project management was excellent. We met weekly to discuss progress but also continuously had discussions over slack. We were assigned a project manager who was great but also individual developers were excellent at updating us on progress and raising issues.

We had a very ambitious timeline that we knew would be tight from the start but Tapadoo managed to deliver and we were delighted with the results.

The entire Tapadoo team was incredibly responsive; they always catered to our needs, and we were never left waiting.

Multiple builds were provided on a frequent basis during the development phase of the project for testing. Key achievements/outcomes were:

1. Timely delivery: the project milestones were achieved on, and in some cases ahead of schedule.
2. Performance Improvements: Stability and performance were key requirements which were visible during both performance benchmarking and post-release feedback from customers.
3. Reduced support overhead: the improved stability has reduced the support impact on the product.

One of the key reasons for success with Tapadoo was the excellent communication with them. We had regular check-ins meetings where they updated us on progress, discussed solutions, addressed our feedback, and adjusted plans when needed. Their team was proactive in identifying potential challenges and providing solutions before issues arose.
Their responsiviness and ability to adapt to our requirements was very impressive. Whether it was incorporating last-minute changes or clarifying technical details, they handled everything with a positive attitude and an evident commitment to client satisfaction. Their customer-first attitude was evident in how they took the time to understand our goals and worked tirelessly to exceed expectations.

I’m the chief growth officer of Dejamobile, a fintech company. Our services provide users the ability to make contactless payments using their mobile phones.

We had a very specific need to have a frontend UI in the form of an app. A client we have is in the business of gift cards and they wanted to move that business into a more mobile direction. To do this, we needed to dematerialize the cards and put them onto the phones.

Tapadoo developed the app for us for both iOS and Android. 

What is the team composition?

We work with no more than five teammates at any given time. We’ve interacted with a project manager, an Android developer, an iOS developer, a few designers, and QA specialists. 

The team integrated our software development kit (SDK) into the app to allow for contactless payments. They also addressed the end-user requirements to make the product user-friendly. 

How did you come to work with Tapadoo?

I had known the CEO, and I knew that Tapadoo had a reputation for doing good work. They were able to handle our client and attend client meetings.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent 100,000 € (approximately $112,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in July 2017, and our engagement is ongoing. We’re about to enter a new phase of work in the next quarter.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We generally don’t go through too many iterations, which shows that the initial requirements gathering phase is accurate. I see that as a success. 

If you go through five versions to get to where you want, that means that the requirements weren’t captured accurately. We’ve also received good feedback from the clients who have interacted with the app.

How did Tapadoo perform from a project management standpoint?

The project manager helped with the specification, details of what needed to be done, and the scheduling of the work. 

They’ve managed the project well and have been efficient in tracking the project and aligning the resources at the same time. We communicate mostly via Slack, and we’ve also used Microsoft Teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to capture the requirements and accurately understand the business goals is impressive. Additionally, Tapadoo gave good feedback and positive input about improving what we and the client wanted to get out of the project.

The team didn’t just do what we asked. They collaborated in a positive way to make improvements all the time. Additionally, their flexibility impressed me.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everybody can improve on something, but nothing jumps to mind right away. If they had any method of increasing their resources without compromising the quality, that’s what I’d say they could improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Meet and discuss the overall requirements and invest the time initially for them to understand the overall business plan, not just one part of the deliverable. Allow Tapadoo to enter into the understanding of what the business is trying to achieve. 

Doing this will allow better input from the team in building what needs to be built. The team has a great ability to understand your business, and the outcome is really worthwhile.

I’ve engaged with Tapadoo in my roles at companies in the payment and energy space. Currently, I manage a roughly 15- person in-house technical team and various outsourced developers. My responsibilities include tying each aspect of our company together and handling business operations including infrastructure.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tapadoo?

Our business challenge was multifold. Our customers typically top up their prepaid energy accounts every week. Since this is just one of their many routine chores, we wanted to create an automated process that felt effortless and straightforward to preempt any potential difficulties. 

At the time, our payment mechanism was only available online through our desktop site, which required logging in via a browser. Web-based credit card payments make it inherently more challenging to build a seamless user journey, especially from a compliance and security standards perspective. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tapadoo developed a mobile app to serve as our seamless new payment solution.  Customers can download the app their phones to easily monitor energy usage or make prepayments. 

Making the website mobile responsive was less of a priority.  Primarily, we wanted to enable customers to manage their accounts from their sofa. 

The team used Objective C and Swift to code the iOS version of our app and wrote the Android aspects in Java, which are the standard programming languages for these platforms. 

What is the team composition? 

The team included the CEO, project managers, and designers. We talked to a total of 4–5 people from Tapadoo, including some of the developers. 

How did you come to work with Tapadoo?

I first came across Tapadoo many years ago through my colleague’s referral. They were one of the few mobile app development companies available in the Republic of Ireland at the time. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in 2014. As the primary vendor who manages our apps, Tapadoo is still working for us all the time.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We measured many performance metrics to assess the mobile apps Tapadoo developed for us, including the number of downloads, active users, and crash statistics. Our company has over 200,000 customers and maintains a very open channel of communication, so we always quickly hear about any problems if they occur.

Based on all these metrics, our customers enjoy the product and use it continuously. We've gotten very positive feedback about the added features Tapadoo helped us build. They produced the precise application that our end customers need, which is ultimately the most important success for us.

How did Tapadoo perform from a project management standpoint?

Tapadoo’s project manager was very skilled. We work with up to seven different outsourced development companies for various areas simultaneously, and they've always been one of the easiest to work with. 

Tapadoo always delivers on time and puts the customer first. They react quickly to requirement changes. 

There are a huge variety of ways in which working with other vendors has been difficult or ineffective. Tapadoo is one of our best partnership engagements for software programming.

What did you find most impressive about them?

A genuine desire to understand what the client wants to achieve makes Tapadoo stand out from the competition. 

Unlike many developers who only do what you explicitly request, they encourage us to consider why.  Our discussions have often ended up with better solutions than we’d originally thought of ourselves.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, nothing comes to mind. We have a very good engagement. I guess Tapadoo could consider new ways to engage in innovation with their clients on the commercial front, but that would be very time-consuming. They're open to the idea of setting aside a budget for this kind of discussions.

Approach the engagement with an open mind for both app-based and web development projects. Every client tends to think they know what they need in the end, but being flexible can add value. Tapadoo is very experienced. They know what works and what does not in the mobile space. There's value to be gained by taking their advice rather than sticking to your preconceived ideas.

We’re an international express logistics provider delivering parcels from any country in the world, to any country. I’m the head of the electronic shipping solutions team and the customer integration management team, handling anything that’s considered customer-facing IT.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tapadoo?

We were looking to create a self-service kiosk for customers who wanted to expand in the retail world. If they wanted to offer shipping services in their own retail environments, their customers could buy the product and express-ship it through us.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a software solution that allows customers to visit self-service kiosks, enter their delivery details, and get a tracking number and receipt to send their shipments with us. There’s an iOS app for physically printing labels, which captures the data on the frontend and integrates it with our backend systems to create a label after the event.

The previous system we had in place was quite slow, so replacing it with an automated digital solution aligns with our global strategy for removing manual label processes. From our perspective, we no longer wanted to receive manual labels, but it was the only convenient method our customers could use.

What is the team composition?

I worked with Dermot (Founder, Tapadoo), some of their sales members, and the IT team—around 3–4 people in total. My team worked with them as well. I was present for the initial conversations and served as project manager.

How did you come to work with Tapadoo?

We heard about them as a new, upcoming software company based in Dublin, but we went through a typical process and decided to select them. Their interest in our project set them apart for us. For them, it wasn’t just a matter of converting our ideas into solutions, but of them contributing to our ideas, giving their thoughts and opinions. It served us well throughout the project.

We spent €25,000 (approximately $28,500).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Tapadoo in 2014. The project didn’t run for too long, but we’ve done occasional updates since then.

We deployed the solution with one customer and saw a growth of 60% year-on-year. The platform offered a more convenient way to utilize our service.

Tapadoo assigned us people who paid a lot of attention to getting the project right and doing things perfectly. They were approachable and easy to work with, which contributed to the success. They were always there to support us when we needed them, including after the project finished.

How did Tapadoo perform from a project management standpoint?

They were hands-on, involved, and structured, giving us wireframes and a storyboard of how they saw the project evolving. We went from ideas to a proof of concept, and their wireframes really helped us. They were on time, on budget, and delivered exactly what they said they would. There was great value in them showing us what their vision was prior to actually creating it as we knew what we were going to get.

They’re very involved and easy to deal with, and always there when we need them. They’ve worked hard and paid a lot of interest in the detail of what we're trying to achieve, which differentiates them from other providers. Their opinion on what should be done on the project was also very important for us, and they handled it well.

I’m the IT director for Bio Medical Research LTD, a medical company that works in the electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) space. We have a few different products that are globally marketed.

Tapadoo built the mobile app for iOS and Android, starting from scratch since the prior code wasn’t good quality. The app connects to our product via Bluetooth technology and enables the user to control the intensity of their exercise. It’s replaced the handheld controller, which was cumbersome and had limited functionality. They also developed a backend database to track customer sessions, giving us more insight into usage and allowing us to send messages to people who stop using the product.

Engineering software for medical device products has a steep learning curve, but they handled it well. Unlike other firms, they take the time to educate us about the world of apps.
