We've worked with two people for SEM, one dedicated account lead for SEO, and about 3-4 people working behind the scenes doing different parts of the SEO strategy execution. I also had a very good and open dialogue with one of the founding partners.

They were referred to me as a boutique agency that was small enough not to charge me a fortune but good enough that I could make an impact. I had a 30-minute call with them, and I fell in love with their team and vision — they're an impressive agency.

Project management is brilliant and fantastic. Regarding tools and communication, we use Asana and Microsoft Teams.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't think there's anything they can improve on — they're brilliant and too nice. I'd recommend them any time.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Taktical audits our website holistically and provides weekly reports on our organic traffic growth and target keywords. They also help us lay out long-term plans to improve traffic. Our strategy focuses more on our artists rather than the gallery in hopes of bringing in people who might be familiar with the artists we represent. 

Moreover, Taktical doesn’t do content development for us. However, they craft metadata, schema, and others as they provide recommendations for SEO best practices.

We work with their SEO and SEM teams. Our team collaborates primarily with an account lead for paid search. On the SEO side, we work with Helene (SEO Account Manager). 

How did you come to work with Taktical Digital?

I joined the company a couple of months after our initial engagement with Taktical. One of our team members was familiar with Taktical’s work for another art organization. We were excited to work with somebody who was familiar with the art business vertical. On top of that, they had glowing referrals from other people.

Our engagement started in December 2019, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve seen a 20% growth in organic traffic year over year from 2021 to 2022.  

How did Taktical Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Taktical has been extremely flexible and amenable to all of our unique needs and strategies. They’re always easy to get a hold of; their resources are accommodating and flexible with any scheduling changes. We communicate through Slack and emails and utilize Google Documents and Spreadsheets. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have the flexibility to partner with unique clients who may have unique KPIs that aren’t as traditional as other standard e-commerce startups. They can also support unique strategies that are aligned with normal KPIs. Overall, we’ve found a good partner in them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Taktical can have engineers and resources that can speak a little better to the technical implementations of some of their SEO recommendations. This can strengthen their services. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If someone is ambitious, Taktical has plenty of good work to do and interesting clients. Their account managers are empowered to do everything they can.

I am a brand manager at Stolen Spirits, a startup liquor company. We have a whiskey product that’s available in 750 ml bottles and also 100 ml mini-cans. We’re also very much beyond our main liquor product, we’re a lifestyle brand.

What challenge were you trying to address with Taktical Digital?

We had actually engaged Tacktical Digital prior to the pandemic in March. My boss and I had kicked everything off at the end of February. It was right before everyone had to work from home. At that time, we were hoping to engage them to begin paid media from an advertising perspective. We had been boosting on social media, but it just wasn’t giving us the results that I knew we could really use to amplify the brand and get the brand awareness where it needed to be. 

We planned to start in March–April timeframe, but then the pandemic hit. As a result, we were on hold for a couple of weeks. We identified that the one way that we would be able to definitely reach our consumers was through digital and social media. One key point was that our brand heavily relied on being able to go to bars and party with people and to buy them shots and get them to taste our product. We could no longer do that anymore, so that’s where Taktical Digital came in. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We went all-in with them on building out audiences that are appropriate to target the markets that we are available in. It is also important to note that we are still a small brand and our distributions aren’t fully national yet. We’re not like the big players and competitors where people can walk into any store and find us — our company is still building our footprint. 

The team defined our audiences based on locations as well as interests. We also worked with them to test our content. I’ve run programs like this in the past where you can create content and put it out and pay for people to see it via impression. However, unless they’re engaging and doing something, it’s not really valuable. Instead of doing that, Taktical Digital posts our content, tests the content, and gives us detailed feedback. They explain why it is successful and why it’s not — they give really strong insights to really build our learnings. As a result, we can swap our content to make it more effective.

We still run most of our social internally, but the value they added to us is running our advertising campaigns on all of Facebook’s platforms. Our budgets are small and we already have strong traction on Instagram, so we just wanted to push it a little further. They came in and set up all the campaigns on the backend, run them, manage them, and get back to us to say what’s working and what’s not. 

We also work with a social agency, a small content shop in Chicago where two people create content for us. They also create all the imagery, and then we hand it over to Taktical Digital. We let the team know that we love what the content shop created for us and we ask for their opinion about the images they want to use. Taktical Digital then write copy specific to the ads because we only have a designer on our internal team. They also help to establish our brand tone and brand ethos. Currently, we’re running a sweepstakes campaign.

We work with Natalie (Paid Social Account Manager) — she’s our main contact.

How did you come to work with Taktical Digital?

We asked our content team to find a company that could help us because they’re very strictly just content production. They don’t really dive into the media or strategy behind producing the content or any of that. As a result, they reached out to a contact and they had a Facebook and he recommended Taktical Digital. They also recommended another company, but we gravitated towards Taktical Digital because they are a small shop and it attracted us because we are a small brand as well.

We also didn’t have the massive budgets that other companies have. Knowing that we’re working with partners that are smaller and understand needing to be flexible convinced us to partner with them. We were also aware that they could be a little innovative with how we spend which was also super attractive for a brand like us.

By the end of the year, we’ll spend around $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We officially started in April 2020, and we are still working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It has been a collaborative effort and a great experience. I did a poll between April–June. Then, I compared it to the metrics from January–March. In that time, social engagement nearly doubled while the cost per engagement decreased by 35% — they have been able to produce exactly what I have been looking for. I wanted to get more people to engage with my content through commenting, sharing, and clicks while reducing the cost per lead — they’ve delivered on that perfectly. 

For our ongoing sweepstakes campaign, we have a small budget to work with, but they did a great job of taking in the content and writing copies that have been relevant. So far, it has generated 5,000 entries. For social ad hits, there have been 645,000 impressions and nearly 6,000 unique landing page views over two weeks' time. They have been doing a fantastic job because we’ve never had anything with that high engagement. Of course, we also know that sweepstakes have a higher incentive, but at least we know what kind of content our consumers are also interested in, so that’s a learning for us.  

How did Taktical Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

We mostly communicate with them via email. Our company just recently adopted Slack, so we are still getting used to that internally. As far as email communication is concerned, it has been simple and direct. Then, when approvals are needed, they will just send us links to all the Facebook previews so we don’t have to go in the backend of Facebook to get them out. As a result, we’ve been able to put those links, review them, and let them know of any changes or if things are approved. 

Moreover, our account manager is super communicative and sends us weekly summaries. She does a great job at summarizing information. We do weekly report check-ins, so we hop on a call with them. Whenever we have questions, they’re ready to answer. In cases where they don’t know the answer, they get back to us very quickly. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I just want to highlight that they are a smaller shop and that is important for us because we are a smaller brand and they understand the position we are in. At the same time, we also understand their position. Their work has been more tailored to us because they’re not spread too thin and they can really customize based on our needs and feedback. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, I don’t think they have any areas they could improve. Our initial reporting was a little hard to follow, but they've already improved on that. We now get PDF reports that are super easy and succinct.

I would highly recommend them.

We sell wildlife-themed jewelry that comes with an actual animal to track and we give back to the nonprofit wildlife organizations that we’ve partnered with. I’m the co-founder and co-CEO of the company.

They primarily help us with paid media including Facebook and Instagram marketing. They’ve also expanded their services to Snapchat and Pinterest as well. Furthermore, they manage all of our Google advertising.

We work directly with their CEO a lot. We also work with three people that help manage our paid media efforts that primarily manage our Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest. Additionally, we also have one person working on our Google efforts and another person in charge of email. In total, we work with 5–6 people from Taktical Digital. 

How did you come to work with Taktical Digital?

When we first found them, we were trying to look for a company that could expand us outside Facebook and Instagram, and into new channels like Snapchat and Pinterest. We were also looking for Google Search advertising agencies focused on Snapchat, and I came across a bunch of really good reviews and articles written about them.

After that, we had a lot of phone calls with different marketing agencies, but we were impressed with our initial phone call with Taktical Digital's CEO. It felt like they really grasped our concept and understood what our company was and what it could be.

We began working with them in September 2020, and we plan to continue working with them for the foreseeable future.

As a retail e-commerce company, it’s easy for us to measure metrics, whether that’s sales, bottom-line profit return on ad spend, and cost-per-purchase to acquire a customer — and we’ve exceeded every single metric we've had before. In addition, the owner of the company is great and we have a good relationship with him. 

They’ve helped our business tremendously. We doubled our sales overnight and have been growing with them ever since. We’ve had a great experience working with Taktical Digital and the person that’s in charge of our Facebook advertising has been fantastic as well. Overall, we’re extremely satisfied with their services.

How did Taktical Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a phone call once a week to discuss our plans and budgets, and our new creative initiatives moving forward. We also have regular calls and daily conversations with people managing our emails and Google advertising. Our communications have been fantastic, and we’ve never had any issues with deadlines or timelines.  Overall, it has been a very collaborative process. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to understand our specific business and use their previous experience in advertising and apply it to their work impresses us. We’ve created a lot of new things and they used their data-driven process to expand our audience network and drive more sales and customers to our website than we ever did before. In addition, they just know the type of customer that we are looking for and they’ve figured out how to tap into that.

I really don’t think they have any areas they could improve. We’ve had an incredible relationship with Taktical Digital and we really enjoy working with them. I’m very happy with our collaboration. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Set up a phone call with them immediately and see what they can do for you. We also had a phone call with them and discussed our business model, and what ideas they had for the future — we found out that their ideas really spoke to us. Moreover, we’ve worked with them in a collaborative effort every single day in order to grow our company.  We didn’t just leave them with the information and let them work on getting our metrics.

They help us increase our followers on LinkedIn, and understanding if we can improve our inbound leads. Essentially, they serve as a CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) for hire, providing great strategic direction based on years of expertise.  

They help us with copy. From a creative standpoint, we have all of that handled in-house. They did do a very comprehensive SEO audit of our site and provided us with development tasks for us to accomplish. The team performs SEO on our marketing site, PPC work, and paid- LinkedIn advertising as well.

They perform very well. Our main point of contact makes sure we have all the information we need when it comes to staying on top of deadlines and that we have all the information we need for posting content. Everything is very well laid out in terms of responsibilities, which is very important for us.

I appreciate how on top of their tasks they are. Sometimes they’re even waiting for us to deliver feedback or information. When they commit to a date, they will be there.

Make sure there are at least 1–2 points of contact on your end to communicate with the Taktical team; it’ll ensure they have everything they need and that you're also able to execute on your end.

I’m the CEO of a startup that’s developing a line of consumer electronic sleep devices to enhance a person’s ability to fall asleep or meditate. We’ll be launching our first product within the next 2–3 years.

We were planning to launch our product earlier this year but ran into a chain of technical issues. Takical Digital came in and worked with our internal marketing team to develop a go-to-market strategy.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement? 

We hired Takical Digital to guide and support us as we launched our product. Within the first few months, they created an optimum strategy to launch our product through our transactional website and drive site visitors. The goal was to boost awareness, collect information, and create an email database of people to reach out to. 

Unfortunately, we’ve had to shelve that process due to some of the development issues we’ve run into. We weren’t meeting our deadlines on the transactional site, so they’re now on retainer until we can launch next year.

We’re very happy with Takical Digital’s work. I come from a consulting background myself, so I’m a pretty tough judge when it comes to response time, creativity, and more. In my experience, they’ve been extremely responsive and creative in their thought process. 

I also appreciate how understanding they are when working with us. As a startup, we’re going to face hiccups and machinations to get our product launched, and they’ve shown a lot of patience on their side. I can’t say enough about how professional they’ve been.

The project management has been well-done from start to finish. There was a point when our account representative left the project, but it was a seamless transition to our next rep. We never had any issues with miscommunication.

It’s the personalized service that’s driven from the top down. Their CEO has a passion to perform at a high level, and it’s apparent that he brings in people who are aware of that and who have a similar drive to achieve perfection for the client.

Takical Digital can move very fast. They’re aggressive in a good way and provide a buttoned-up service. In an ideal world, we would’ve worked with them within a five-month window to go to market, and they reacted to us based on that timeframe. For paid search, Taktical completely rebuilt our search campaigns to a more granular level, isolating specific terms and categories into their own buckets. The SEO team initially did a deep-dive into our code structure from the lens of organic search and made a series of recommendations set up as a developer checklist for improvements. The content team developed an outreach strategy for links, as well as consistent blog writing for onsite content.

Daily contact was with 3 people + the 2 founders. Uncertain how many people on vendor side were involved in the actual work.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Organic search term ranking for roughly 30 terms improved consistently over time, and they continue to build upon these successes. Revenue from the paid search channel continues to outperform the previous year with minimal increase in spend.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Meetings with the SEO team occur 2x month. Content team 1x month. PPC team each week. Outside of these calls, we email each other regularly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The team is very responsive, takes feedback seriously, and is very collaborative.

The Founders sometimes appear defensive but ultimately the work speaks for itself and we are pleased to be working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Because of Taktical's efforts, social is one of our best performing channels. We've seen great growth and success, month over month, and they're very good about optimizing and trying new things.

How did Taktical perform from a project management standpoint?

They've performed very well. They speak weekly and go over any promotions and goals that we have planned for that month or that season. Everything's always been very timely.

They put together a Google presentation for us every call, which allows us to look at last week's performance, as well as week over week performance. Within that presentation, we'll also share information that we can also add to it. We can always have a shared place of storing information. We talk frequently, so that format is perfect for us. If we need to adjust anything, they usually respond within minutes to an email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're a pretty lean team, and because of that, we have a lot of external resources and vendors. They've always been excellent in terms of response and I'd say they place within the top three vendors that we work in that regard, which is really important for us. They've been really good at understanding our brand, our customer, and what might work in the future to add on and iterate on what we've already accomplished; that's been a really big plus as well.

No, they're a really good partner and we look forward to continuing working with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to have a really good understanding of your own brand and customers, so you can empower Taktical with all of that information. The more they understand your brand and your customer, the better job they'll be able to do.

What challenge were you trying to address with Taktical?

At first, we hired Taktical to take over our paid social media efforts because it had scaled to the point where we needed someone to help us optimize the channel.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Currently, they’re still largely focused on managing our Facebook advertising efforts. They create campaigns, optimize our targets, and work on the budgets. We’ll provide them with the creative, but they put together the ads for us. A/B testing is also part of their role, so they’re always iterating our content and targets. They’re running prospecting and retargeting campaigns, too.

We’ve also added Pinterest advertising campaigns to the project, so they help optimize that channel, too. We also leverage them for SEO and paid search support.

Dane (Senior Account Manager, Taktical) has been our account manager since day one. There can sometimes be turnover with agencies, but we’ve had the same point of contact since the start. 

How did you come to work with Taktical?

Derek (Director, Taktical) reached out over email to introduce himself and it was at the time we were facing challenges with our paid social efforts. Since it was perfect timing and we were considering outsourcing the work, we communicated about our needs. They offered to do a completely free audit, produced an in-depth piece full of suggestions, and went over it with us. We felt that was a good-faith gesture, so we signed on with them.

We started working together in November 2017.

Our goal was to see a return of 2x or better on our ad spend, and since we’ve begun the relationship, we’re above that goal. They’ve been able to maintain and exceed our goals in that area. We’re also seeing great results from the SEO and paid search support they provide. 

How did Taktical perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great—always very reachable. We have weekly check-in calls, but also communicate over email close to daily and text if it’s needed. I know Dane keeps track of our account, even over the weekend, so I can always reach him. They go above and beyond to be available and cater to our needs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They provide a range of great services—everything they do is consistent and meets the same high standard. Whether it’s paid search or social, they meet the same expectations for project management, communication, and performance.

Since we’re a lean in-house team, it’d be great to lean on them for more creative services. They help a bit with some of that work, but creating different ads or working on videos could be helpful to our team. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They do a great job at setting expectations, so go into the project with clear goals and KPIs. If they understand your mission, it’ll be easier to manage the relationship.
