Initially, we had a discovery call where I met with Synergy Labs’ CEO. I explained to him the needs of our organization, and he understood exactly what the project required. He requested additional information to provide clarity on the project's scope. After that, he gave us a proposal.

From there, Synergy Labs created a digital engagement platform specifically tailored for iPads. The platform was in partnership with one of our donor clients. Users could use touchscreen functionality. There was a body of a person, and users could touch different areas of the body to determine which type of cancer affected that particular body part.

We found them through a Google search. I went through several vendors, and Synergy Labs was one of them. In terms of professionalism and communication, Synergy Labs was definitely in the top three. After further discussions, we identified that they were the strongest vendor and the most qualified to do the job for us.

The quote for the project was $11,000.

The project lasted from March–May 2025.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our partner donor hosted community events where patients or people from the community came to their events. We had the tablets ready for those who might be interested in learning more about cancer. At any given event, 50–250 people used the engagement platform.

Synergy Labs’ work quality was exceptional. During the process, we had some revisions and modifications. They were very responsive and made the revisions expeditiously. Everything was to our liking and specifications. The finished product was of exceptional quality.

How did Synergy Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Synergy Labs delivered the work on time and on budget. On a daily basis, we communicated through emails. We also had weekly meetings through Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The level of professionalism from Synergy Labs was impressive. They were true professionals. Many teams may possess skills and expertise in building apps, but the way Synergy Labs communicated, their responsiveness and respect, and the speed at which they delivered the changes really impressed us. They moved the project very smoothly.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Our legal team reviewed the contract. We had some revisions, and Synergy Labs made the revisions. When it was time to sign the contract through DocuSign, the back and forth of the contract process was going well. However, when it came to DocuSign, somehow the contract wasn’t received. We had to send the contract through DocuSign a couple of times.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very clear and specific in the project scope and your expectations. Plan for potential changes that may occur during the project to determine if Synergy Labs is willing and able to accommodate them. If the project requires maintenance or updates, discuss that from the beginning so you’re both on the same page and there are no surprises.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Synergy Labs delivered an app that didn’t work. It had many memory leaks and was constantly crashing. They blamed it on the API, but when I got an additional developer to review the backend code, he said there was no way the app would make it to the market because the structure and architecture were so poorly done that it wouldn’t function on its own.

How did Synergy Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management wasn’t bad. We had multiple meetings with the project manager each week via Google Meet. However, I had to create an Excel document for them to use. They didn’t have their own tool. They used Slack for communication, which was great, but they should have used a project management tool.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were nice, and their customer service was good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should use a project management tool. As a customer, I shouldn’t have to develop one for them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They didn’t adhere to the terms of the contract. According to the contract, I should’ve gotten a refund. We showcased many ways in which they breached the contract, but they didn’t care. If you work with them, it’ll be at your own risk because if they don’t deliver, they won’t give you your money back.

We would like to add context that the app was delivered as fully functional. However, it was "not working" because the API that the client chose was not functional and not stable. We did offer to parse the data from API manually, and the app would work. However, this was out of scope, and the client would have to pay a little extra, which we offered, but the client refused. To this day, the client owes a balance for the work we completed that she has not covered the invoice for.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I'm happy that we made this choice because we have over 1.3 million monthly active users and tens of millions of bookings per set annually. And right now, we are a leader, as far as I can tell, in the health and wellness tech space. Within the first two years after launch, we've seen a 15% increase in user retention, a 20% improvement in app speed, and a 12–13% boost in overall bookings inside the app. The team has been great to work with because they've provided full support for the business.

How did Synergy Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

The team has delivered everything on time and with high quality. We've collaborated and put a lot of effort into working with our project manager; she has helped us a lot throughout the whole project. They've been really easy to communicate with, and they've fixed all of the bugs during the 30 days if I'm not mistaken. They've fixed all of the bugs, and they still do if we have any problems with the app. They're all online and easily resolve the problems within a couple of days after we tell them. We’re on calls almost every day with her, and she takes our ideas and delivers them fully into the app. We now have a beautiful app.

We use Slack and Google Meet to communicate and Jira for project management.
