What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our app had some negative reviews because of errors made by our previous vendor. Since working with Synergo, we’ve received nothing but positive feedback. Their recommendations led to the overall improvement of user experience, and people now use our application without any issues.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

While our previous agency took up a lot of time with unproductive meetings, Synergo worked much more efficiently. They emailed us if any issue arose and offered suggestions. If necessary, we then scheduled a phone call. We also utilized a project management tool to monitor progress.

They were always on schedule, even as we dealt with the fact that our previous vendor failed to hand over all the necessary files. They suggested alternatives for working around this issue, and it was helpful to have their assistance on such a stressful project.

I’m the founder of Targeted Ultra-Niche Advertising. We provide solutions to small businesses that help them better leverage their marketing and advertising efforts.

What challenge were you trying to address with Synergo Group?

To best serve a particular client, we decided it was necessary to create a mobile app for both iOS and Android. Our in-house team is great, but mobile app development isn’t in their skill set. We needed to outsource development in order to fulfill our vision and deliver a tangible product.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We approached them with a WordPress website and some sketches of the app. However, nothing was planned with a high level of detail so we left most of the creative input and design up to them. The app they developed is essentially a social calendar for students of Georgetown University. It effectively compiles events from around the university onto a mobile calendar that’s searchable, pushes featured events, and organizes them into specific categories. Local businesses pay for calendar position.

The founder acted as the main point of contact throughout the process. On occasion, I worked directly with the head developer as well.

How did you come to work with Synergo Group?

After taking on this project, we considered nearly every major mobile app development organization we could find. The goal was to find a reputable company that produces successful apps, but could also engage in a close working relationship with us. It was clear that Synergo had the expertise and experience necessary to deliver the product on time and on budget.

Development took place October 2017–December 2017. We’re in the process of launching the app now.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve had around 50 beta testers and their feedback has been fantastic. All target end-users, they’re ecstatic for the app to launch. It’s a clean, smooth, and streamlined information delivery system, which is exactly what we wanted.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

We had an initial video conference with Cristian Beres [Founder, Synergo Group] where he outlined project options and set week-by-week landmarks. After that, communication was primarily done through email. We had an additional video conference once a tangible product started to take form.

The project went through 12 or 13 builds before completion and each one was delivered to me within 24 hours of my initial feedback. They finished everything slightly ahead of schedule and completed the project a week earlier than initially estimated. The Synergo team always forwarded feedback to his development team and kept them on task. We always knew how the project was going and in general, the project management was excellent.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The Synergo team's response time, as a founder, was better than anyone I’ve worked with before. He reliably returned my emails within an hour. Additionally, their willingness to collaborate, innovate, and look for strategic opportunities outside the project is a standout attribute. Finally, we appreciated the ironclad contract that protected our intellectual property, as it’s extremely important to us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I honestly don't have any recommendations to add. We communicated effectively throughout the process and got our deliverable on time and on budget. They’re probably the best software vendor we’ve worked with.

We would like to create a new application for our prospective clients. We are looking for a working prototype.

This will be a very limited product. The application will be real-time monitoring of the vertical or horizontal transport equipment such as elevators escalators. The idea is to show the on time status and location of elevators or escalators. It can also show events and if the door is open. 

We met with Synergo and agreed to create it with them. The framework uses C#, ASP.NET, Aurelia and SignalR.

The work involved development and user interface design. They also handled the implementation.

How did you come to work with Synergo Group?

I think that I searched Google and found them on one of the company portals. I contacted their representative here in Toronto. We are based in Toronto so it was a good fit for us.

They had a strong portfolio and were able to showcase their products. We didn't go into details but they started by creating the user interface design to show me. I liked their work so I decided to choose them. They also seemed to know Javascript very well.

We are now finishing the project and are in the deployment phase. We started the engagement in May 2017.

The company is Samsung. I was the head of the deployment. My division was responsible for validating and ensuring that all the software apps and devices that were going to the US market were market and consumer ready.

What challenge were you trying to address with Synergo Group?

The device market in the US is extremely proliferated. The apps that are going on the devices are extremely wide in terms of how they’re handling operating systems and how they’re engaging with various device resolutions. We were trying to solve the inventory handling of apps that are preinstalled on the Samsung devices and to understand their impact on the devices in terms of resolution engagement as well as device utilization.

We tried to get a handle on the inventory management of the apps that are ready for preload and the inventory management of apps that are ready for programs made for Samsung. There are 1,000 to 2,000 different apps that we tried in order to ensure that when they’re running on a Samsung device, the user has the best experience. We used a set of device and apps inventory to merge them and see what works together.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Synergo Group was hired to support our efforts in building an inventory management tool. The inventory management and calendar tools focus was to make device launches, app-pre-loads, maintenance releases and respects preload updates, as well as the conditions of the apps ready for preload visible.

Thereby the objective was to understand besides the devices also the impact of the operating systems and the device feature set differences like screen resolution, CPU type and so on.

We needed to manage various metrics and understand the effect it would have to make any change. Which version is going to be affected, which device is going to be affected, what test do we need to run and in which cases. So the project was about creating this very complex system with 4 essential components: the inventory management, the planning and scheduling tool, the reporting tool and the device inventory in itself.

How did you come to work with Synergo Group?

Synergo Group had partnered up with another company so we had done several projects with them in the past and had a good experience. We looked at other vendors that are in the same spectrum, but in the end, we chose Synergo Group because of price and the past experience we had with them. We believed we’d be able to get the project done with them.

How much have you invested with Synergo Group?

We spent $78,000 on the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in March 2016, and the work was completed in August 2016.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

The key performance indicators on the project are pretty significant in terms of inventory management on a device level, down to the quality aspect of app ratios and having that knowledge. That’s how we measure it at the end of the day. We also look at the success of the project in terms understanding the devices that are out there and what operating systems and applications are on them. The delta was the unknown and we had a ratio of 85% of coverage. We had a very good understanding of what it is and there was a little gap in terms of the other applications that we’re not aware of. It depends on the provider but that was an acceptable delta. The other one was to understand the lifetime of the application in terms of where it stands and which version was tested. We were pretty accurate on that, so we always kept the last version in a 15 to 20-day cycle. That means that when the application came out, either before or after, there would be a 20-day window for understanding and propagating the information.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Redmine, which helps to organize sprints and provides reports. We communicated through weekly calls and email.

What did you find most impressive about Synergo Group?

There was a time difference but they accommodated to our time. That helped optimize my team’s time as best as possible.

Are there any areas Synergo Group could improve?

Communication is something that can always be improved. Synergo improved a lot over the time we worked with them. We had to work with them on warning us in advance about any issues that came up. They were flexible in working with us.

We are a large multispecialty electronic medical record company. We’ve also branched into the medical office ecosystem. We do revenue cycle management, practice medicine, telehealth, pathology, etc. We’re a cloud-based technology and focused on iPad with a good market share in multiple specialties. As the Senior Product Manager for our analytics service line, I am responsible for the product from conception, development, delivery, and maintenance.

What challenge were you trying to address with Synergo Group?

We needed to be able to flex resources quickly without hiring them in-house. As we developed a relationship with Synergo over the years, they were also maintaining what they built. Then we began to branch off into other projects, and now Synergo is one of our primary developers for our BI [business intelligence] software tools.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The most recent project has been a MySQL based BI tool development which includes dashboarding, visualization, and heavy data manipulation within a MySQL backend or Hadoop backend. We have also had some projects that include Angular and Java. Synergo has a nice breath of knowledge because they can interchange developers when needed.

How did you come to work with Synergo Group?

Synergo was brought in as part of an acquisition, and we’ve expanded their work over time.

How much have you invested with Synergo Group?

We have spent between $50,000 and $200,000 with Synergo over the course of our relationship.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Synergo in July 2014, and the work is ongoing.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

One thing that’s great is we can leverage our development cycle 24/7. Synergo's time zone offsets our time zone so we can almost get 20 hours of development time a day. That’s doubled the time in which we can bring products to market. They’re able to focus without corporate distractions such as meetings which means their productivity time is much greater than our typical engineer. Synergo is extremely focused and keeps the same developer on a project which greatly increases productivity. We were very successful in bringing our BI tool to market in one of our biggest verticals. We were able to bring things to market much faster than we would’ve been able to with our in-house team.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

I work directly with the lead developer usually. On some of our projects that are more established, we work with a business analyst intermediary. They use a software called Redmine but are also willing to use our tool, JIRA, where they sign in just like anyone else on our in-house team.

What did you find most impressive about Synergo Group?

I have worked with six other offshore firms, but with Synergo, I can pick up the phone and contact their CEO anytime. He’s on our HipChat channel every day so that we can contact him if necessary. We view them as a partner, not just a vendor.

Are there any areas Synergo Group could improve?

Synergo offers us a substantial amount of flexibility, but we always wish we had more. I don’t think that’s anything they can improve. It’s just the nature of the industry.

We are a startup business. We have a classifieds website for trades between people. It’s similar to eBay in the US but much simpler. We don’t have stores or auctions; you just have an item and other people can check it out and swap. We expect to launch within a month. I’m a co-founder of the website.

What challenge were you trying to address with Synergo Group?

We had the idea and needed design and development for the website. To be honest, we think it’s going to have a good market in Saudi Arabia. There are some sites around, but we think we have a new business model. I went through Clutch.co, and I was so pleased, especially after having had terrible experiences on Upwork. Now, we’re doing it right. Since we’re a startup, we always suffer for money. You can imagine that if I had a little mistake during this period, I wouldn’t have existed at all. There is an excellent designer from Synergo but he was not available, so I had to find another company for the design part.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Synergo Group is developing our website; I had another team for design. I am also involved in a separate mobile app project with Synergo. Two other people and I started a project, and for that, we’re doing UI/UX [user interface/user experience] and coding with Synergo and it’s going very well.

How did you come to work with Synergo Group?

We started this project about two years ago, but we had too much trouble finding freelancers through Elance.com and other freelancing platforms. We lost a lot of money. We’re a startup; we have other jobs and we get the money for this business from our other salaries. We almost broke down. Our last experience with these freelancers didn’t go through. We thought Upwork.com would protect us, but it didn’t work out. So when I discovered Clutch.co about a year ago, I can’t tell you how pleased I was. I wasn’t completely trusting right away, but it was the best available option. I found Synergy Group on Clutch.co and we’ve been doing really well together.

So many people in my area are losing so much money on terrible contractors; I probably lost like $20,000 on sloppy freelance work. So when I met Cristi, our account manager and co-founder of Synergo, on Skype for the first time, I told him I had had really bad experiences before and I wasn’t quick to trust a new firm. I told him that he’d need to accept that I’d always be a little wary, and he understood. I also asked for references, which I had never done before. He provided me phone numbers for two of his big clients and they were very honest. They said that Cristi takes pride in what he does and he loves to make it nice. You’ll see Cristi fighting for your business harder than you do. Amazingly, this is true.

For the website, I would say that so far we spent around $30,000 and the work is still ongoing, so I expect it to be around $35,000 by the end of it.

The relationship is ongoing.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

You can only appreciate what we’re getting out of this by knowing what we suffered from before we found them. Our success with Synergo Group is best exemplified in Cristi; he is the safety valve of the relationship. He’s the person standing in the middle between me and the developer. The developer is driven by the code and functions and I’m driven by my business goals and the user experience; Cristi is standing in the middle trying to understand what I want. He’s a developer himself, and he combines both what I want and what his team can do.

We tell them what we want to be developed—whether it’s a filter or a piece of code—and the team proceeds to give us an estimate. Once we approve it, we can trust that it will work out to that amount and that the code will be clean. I also asked for some sort of a communication system so that my users can communicate to each other through the site rather than through email. My previous developers handed me something like a Word file that delivered messages instead of a real communication system. With Synergo Group, I can explain what I want and I get it right away. If I tell them to edit or add something, I can get it the next hour.

With other companies, our experience is that you spend days or months trying to explain things. I ended up developing interfaces myself to show them what I wanted and I still wouldn’t get it. I felt like I was working with incompetent people. Synergo Group is so much better. Synergo appreciates what I want.

Two years ago, my website would have been a normal startup website. The way it was developed was very simple, very easy. Now, I think my website is scalable. I think I am ready for the next big move. If you were to tell me that I would have 10 million visitors per month, I would say that I can handle that. I have a professional website. What you see here are people who are trying to push you to succeed.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Cristi’s project management strategy is that it’s important for us to be comfortable, and if we stress each other out about hours or budgets, the pressure will make it hard to perform. At the same time, he doesn’t want me to be stressed. One time I told him that I had to raise my flag. That’s his system, the flag. If I have any issue or if I suspect I’ll be running into cash flow issues, he tells me to just “raise the flag” and he’ll slow down. We had this really great strategy about slowing down and speeding up flexibly depending on how my cash flow was working, and it worked out really well. They’re very nice people to work with. We’re happy.

Synergo uses JIRA for project development and tracking, which is absolutely wonderful online software. Every single task has a ticket with a time tracker and communication system. Tickets are marked as “In Progress”, “Blocked”, or “Ready for QA” and can be assigned to different users, including me. I cannot explain how convenient project tracking and management has become because of JIRA!

What did you find most impressive about Synergo Group?

We’re paying $35 per hour. We were paying around $20 before. The $15 increase is not little, but if you go look on the market, you see companies charging $200 per hour and I am pretty sure that what I am getting is the quality of that $200 per hour firm. I’m not exaggerating. This group positioned themselves well. They’re smart and they know what they’re doing. They decided they weren’t going to serve the big corporations and charge those high rates, but they also weren’t going to give away their work like freelancers on Upwork do.

Synergo Group knows their market segment and they know that there are a lot of people like me that want quality. I understand that Synergo conducts their business in ways that are similar to a freelance model: the management is in one place and the developers are somewhere else. Nevertheless, they’re really good at handling their communication amongst themselves and I never felt that distance. It works really nicely. Cristi is just a really nice guy; he makes you feel comfortable. I’m really looking forward to working with Synergo for many years to come.

Are there any areas Synergo Group could improve?

Sometimes, my co-founders and I would get into an argument about Synergo’s model. Cristi believes that you can’t really fully conceptualize a project in the early stages. No matter how much time and effort you spend to fully plan the work, there will always be surprises. For example, we had a one-year exercise for our other project, the app we’re doing. We developed a long specification document that would explain everything about the app, but Cristi was resistant to giving a precise estimate. He thought that no matter how much you think it’s going to cost, you’re probably going to miss something that may cost you more.

You’re never going to estimate things precisely. This might bother people. Sometimes, I think he had a point because, to be honest, in the middle of the project you will always discover that you missed something and it will cost you. Cristi believes in this model of thinking, and I don’t know if he’s right or wrong. I trust him and I’m comfortable with him, but my co-founders were upset that he wouldn’t give a more precise estimate. I should mention that we negotiated the estimate that Cristi provided for the classified website. We were confident that the job would cost less, but in the end, Cristi was right. I think it is the nature of this business and maybe we, as startup clients, are resistant to accept it.

I work for a division of a reinsurer that operates globally. Our primary insurance product is equipment breakdown coverage for commercial entities, and we also write that on the residential side. We write specialty coverages like employer’s liability, specialty liability, cyber identity recovery, and others. Our primary business model is through client partnerships with other insurance carriers where we reinsure them, and on the commercial side, we write business directly through agents as well.

I’m vice president of personal line services. I find services that augment our coverage products when they go to market, and I maintain those services on an ongoing basis.

What challenge were you trying to address with Synergo Group?

We were building a website. At the time, we contracted a company that used to own an online inventory solution, and Synergo Group was their developer. Last November, we purchased that code, and we are using Synergo Group to maintain the code and the environment the code runs on.

We started with a desktop online inventory tool. A couple of years ago, we developed iOS and Android mobile apps. We continually enhance those with additional features such as video upload capability and user authentication processes. Synergo Group had developed the code for the original company using Azure for the cloud portion.

Synergo Group has done both design and development work for us. We would document the requirements, Synergo provided the wireframes and built to our requirements. We use 4 resources from Synergo Group.

We had contracted another company back in 2012, and Synergo was the coding developer for them. When we purchased the code, we kept Synergo on to maintain the tool and host the server.

We started working with Synergo Group directly in November of 2016, and the work is ongoing.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

When we ask for something, Synergo Group delivers. The quality of the code is very good. Synergo Group has a QA process which we follow up with our process. If we find anything that needs to be fixed, we have a ticket site to load our requests. We’ve received positive feedback from our users.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Two of the resources are from Romania, the others are in Canada, and they’re all wonderful to work with. I speak extremely highly about their level of knowledge in this space. Synergo Group is very flexible about meeting our schedules given the different time zones that all of us are in. The deliverables are always on time unless our team has a delay. Synergo Group is a small shop so they can be flexible. Synergo Group acts like true consultants offering suggestions that they think will improve the project.

We use GitHub, Dropbox, Freshdesk, TestFlight, TestFairy, and some propriety test software platforms in our work together.

The owner has a lot of insight into machine learning, which I think will be valuable in the future.

Synergo Group broke down the process of building an app, acting as both a partner and a mentor. We have a board of advisors and have filtered our decisions through Synergo Group's team as well. In terms of technical implementation, Synergo Group has handled 100% of the work.

I looked online for developers, trying to find firms rather than freelancers. I sent Synergo Group an email and received a reply within 15–20 minutes. They made me feel like I was in good hands from day one. We set up a meeting in person and went from there.

Since the app deals with an access-to-justice issue, we have been able to get some money from the Ontario government through a competition. Synergo Group took this into consideration from the start, allowing me to pay for the application immediately only if I won. Otherwise, I had a year to do it. This was great for my startup since I didn't have to worry about financing.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Synergo Group in August 2016. We have built a demo version of the app, and are working on a final version which will have chat functionalities and allow clients to make purchases.

The quality of the work is excellent. Synergo Group has been flexible in allowing me to make changes halfway through.

I needed to build the staged version of a video conferencing feature for an upcoming presentation. Synergo Group was able to do it by the next day.

How did Synergo Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Synergo Group has delivered on time and on budget. I don't have experience building apps, so it's been good to have a partner like Synergo Group, who is able to guide me through it.

What did you find most impressive about Synergo Group?

Synergo Group has worked with some large organizations and in different industries. They have knowledge of how technology is applied in these cases and have given me a broader view for my own app. The customer care is there; anytime I've needed something, I was able to message my contact from Synergo Group.

Are there any areas Synergo Group could improve?

So far, I'm very pleased with the work done.
