Sure Systems does a good job of scoping accordingly to each client, since each is different with needs and wants of their own. There have been times when we did not agree or like the proposed suggestions but were very happy to have a Sure Systems representative come and speak to us to talk through the suggestion to either change our mind or come to a new idea together. I am not show I would suggest to make that better, it is a process that takes a bit of time regardless.

I’m the director of applied technologies and data services for a seismic data company. We own and license a seismic data library for the Western Canadian sedimentary basin.

What challenge were you trying to address with Sure Systems?

We needed help managing our IT infrastructure, cloud, storage, and all related services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Sure Systems has been helping us migrate all of our infrastructure from on-premises to the Microsoft Azure 365 stack. They’ve also installed hardware, including our on-premises storage, and managed our Microsoft licenses. Sure Systems has recommended moving to a complete Microsoft 365 environment, and we have all our virtual servers in the cloud.

Moreover, Sure Systems manages our cybersecurity, including updates, firewall management, and quarterly reports for our board of directors. The team provides on- and off-site services. Over time, we've requested more services from Sure Systems, both because our business demands it and because we've changed how we do things.

Sure Systems also handles maintenance, updates, hosting, and system management.

What is the team composition?

We work with Alex, the owner; Can, their CTO; Connor, as well as another teammate, who handle desktop and hardware support; and Amy, in charge of procurement and licensing. We also work with Sure Systems’ help desk team.

How did you come to work with Sure Systems?

Sure Systems has been our company's vendor for over 20 years. Their current owner-operator was part of our IT team. Then, they split off, so we knew the environment from day one.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $750,000 CAD on their services over the 20 years we’ve worked together.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Sure Systems in October 2006, and our relationship is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We still employ Sure Systems after 20 years, which is a success metric. We’ve also seen reduced downtime and improved disaster recovery processes. We have a fully functional and tested disaster recovery plan. Sure Systems' work has met our expectations.

How did Sure Systems perform from a project management standpoint?

Sure Systems meets deadlines and is highly organized. We don’t have to deal with too many teammates, as they have one main person who disseminates the work. We use a help desk ticketing system, email, and Microsoft Teams to communicate. We also have a monthly update meeting with Sure Systems.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Sure Systems’ willingness to change is impressive. When I took my current role, they had been dealing with the same person for years. I asked for hands-on reporting, and Sure Systems had no problems working under the structure I wanted.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Initially, Sure Systems’ communication was lacking. They had a carte blanche relationship with the previous IT director, so they didn’t communicate well what they were doing, or certain tasks. However, Sure Systems improved as soon as I asked.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ask for Can directly. He’s unbelievable and smart, so you want him on your project team.
