We wanted to find a company in our city to be able to meet frequently and take part in the whole process.

Describe the project in detail.

The project was small and short. We met to understand the app and users current opinions, then we designed a new layout of the app and finally we produced a couple of high quality scrrens of the app.

It was a micro project with just one UX designer. For a couple of weeks.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Users are not complaining about app interface. Retention rate in one week changed from 40% to 55%.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We met every two days to discuss the progress and that was ok.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

On the very first meeting, after just two hours of listening about the app, the UX designer redefined the main interface in a way I really liked. That was quite impressive.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I've asked many times to have possibility to see the current state of work at the end of every workday. This requests were rather ignored and I could see the results of work only during our meetings, so I had no time to think over it. As the project was very short it reduced the number of iterations drastically.

I’m the CEO of Tulum Technologies. We operate in the video and media industries. After working with consultants on different projects, we launched our own products about two years ago.

What challenge were you trying to address with Better Software Group?

We wanted to develop a platform that connects celebrities with their fans through personal video messages they record individually. The user seeks a celeb of their choice and books a video request (birthday, anniversary, big test). The celeb gets the request, records the video message, and sends it to the recipient through the platform. The user can then share the video on social media platforms or download it to their device.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a backend web app and a mobile app. We met and discussed what we wanted to do, and then they started to understand the scope and determine the MVP. After delivering the MVP to validate the product and business case, they built out the whole solution. The system is built on Flutter, which allowed them to use one code for the iOS and Android mobile app.

What is the team composition?

We worked with different amounts of people during different stages. Altogether, though, there were seven: a project manager, two backend developers, one frontend developer, two mobile developers, and a QA resource.

How did you come to work with Better Software Group?

We’d worked with them before on a different project, where they developed a platform for uploading fitness videos for fitness instructors. It was a very good experience, and they were local for us. This allowed us to meet in their office and see their faces and work process. That prior experience was the most important factor, though.  

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $250,000 on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from December 2018 until September 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Right now, we're talking with agencies that work with influencers and celebrities. Their feedback on the app has been good, but it's not open to the public yet. We’re actually going to Lisbon to show it at a web summit, soon. The app will be live in the next month or so, as we’re in the prep stage for a successful market entry.

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They provided daily updates and worked in scrum, so we had longer, biweekly sprint sessions where the developers would show us a demo version of what they’ve done. Communication was pretty much daily, through conversations and emails

I’m satisfied with their work, which was fluid, collaborative, and transparent. I knew exactly what was going on, and they informed me about every issue that arose before dealing with it immediately.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed by their expertise, and they taught me a lot about technology. I was also impressed by their speed and willingness to learn about our market. The platform is mostly for younger people, so we wanted it to be intuitive and pretty. Better Software Group dug into that and did research, providing ideas about how to make it better and more appealing and easy to use.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I had a good experience with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

What helped us a lot in developing quickly was spending time on developing the MVP. It validated our project idea and how the project could look. In a project like ours that’s dedicated to social media users, it’s important to have your unique characteristics identified in the beginning.

We wanted to have a BI software that would allow managers to see and analyze changes in performance, retain forecasts, and monitor progress in business strategy implementation.

What were your goals for this project?

The main goal of the project was to deliver an outstanding application that supports managers in decision-making process. End users are provided with a simple and flexible solution that enables customizing system in terms of budgeting, multi-dimensional data analysis, and forecasting (together with reporting and presenting data).

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We came across BSG several times because they are known in Wroclaw for delivering great software. We have collected few offers from previously selected companies and finally decided to go with Better Software Group as they had required skills and presented the most attractive offer.

Describe the project in detail.

Delivered application’s main goal was to focus on enhancing the decision-making process in enterprises by providing user-friendly solution. Users can access the data in a quick and simple manner.

TETA Business Intelligence meets the requirements of modern solutions that are widely used both in Poland and around the world. The application can be accessed with a use of different tools. It can be installed on user workstations, used as an Excel spreadsheet, as well as accessed through a web browser, or via e-mail.

What was the team composition?

The team consisted of 10+ people. During the project we had assigned up to 5 Software Developers, 5 Consultants, a Business Analyst, a QA Specialist, and a dedicated Sales Rep.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

One of the most important values in the delivered application was possibility of combining data from different sources and providing a detailed and accurate perspective of current situation.

Regular reporting systems seem to allow users to only investigate previously provided data without giving an option of cross-sectional analysis. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain the most valuable information that can be useful when predicting future performance.

BSG team managed to overcome this issue when developing TETA Business Intelligence solution.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The cooperation was smooth and the communication seamless. Both sides were committed to achieve the mutual goal giving us the feeling like they were a part of our internal team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I think their work ethics are quite impressive. The team was focused on the project and supported us with their ideas and solutions. The cooperation was very transparent.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I don’t seem to find any. We were very satisfied with their work.

What was the scope of their involvement?

After they understood what we wanted to do, they worked within a scrum methodology to build the platform. They created all the functionality and designed layouts. They came up with ways to protect the content, integrate a payment system, and set up how the streaming content would look. They've tested the product, but we're still acquiring videos before we launch.

The team was made up of two or three developers, a project manager, and a quality assurance lead.

How did you come to work with Better Software Group?

I did some online research for development companies in our area. Several people I work with referred them, and we felt we might have a positive experience with them. We started a conversation, and we decided to hire them.

Our cost was around $300,000 USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started in the beginning of 2018, and they completed their work in May 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The product hasn’t gone live yet. We have shown it to content providers and instructors, and everyone who sees it gives us positive feedback. People with non-technical backgrounds feel the user experience is easy, and we feel we've achieved our key goals.

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

I'm very satisfied with their work. They were responsive, and they clearly did their homework. They were always prepared, and they learned about our industry from the viewpoint of the end user. Our sessions involved a lot of brainstorming, and they were able to challenge some of our ideas based upon their own research. We had short daily online meetings, and longer meetings every two weeks to go over their work and to plan next steps.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Our whole partnership was very good. Not only did they listen to us, they often came back with better solutions. Scheduling and timing were good, and the project went according to plan. Overall, I was very happy with our collaboration.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I'm happy with their work, and they provided me with everything I needed. I don't think they could have improved anything on this particular project.

Get to know the team you plan to work with daily. The people we worked with understood our business and fit in well with our internal group.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a co-founder and the CEO of a startup providing a web-based platform for making multimedia, multi-camera, live interactive broadcasts. We enable everyone to create professional live broadcasts on social media platforms such as Facebook or YouTube, even if they don’t have any knowledge of the technical aspects.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with BSG?

We wanted to implement everything in-browser on the client side, using only HTML and JavaScript. This was an innovative concept, and there were no similar platforms implemented in such a way. All other platforms were running those aspects on the server side, with which the browser application eventually interfaced.

Our philosophy was to push almost the entire application to the browser, to use the processor power of the user, and not that of our servers. That way, we wouldn’t encounter that much cost when scaling, and we could remain competitive.

There were many things to be investigated, so it was a kind of R&D project. We knew that it was possible, but the details were unknown. We had detailed specifications regarding the functionalities of the platform, but not everything was clear on the implementation side. Our ultimate goal was to optimize the platform to scale it globally.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

BSG first analyzed our specifications and discussed the possible risks and problems in the implementation. For innovative projects like this one, we can define what we would like to have at the end, but not in detail. We worked with them week by week, and we had a new milestone every three months. We defined tasks using agile methodology, and we discussed problems each week as they appeared.

We’re now implementing the infrastructure needed to scale the app. We have a web app at the moment, and we will need a mobile version in the future. The platform uses mobile devices as remote cameras, and those communicate with our platform. A mobile app for the camera operators will make the platform more user-friendly, and it will also enable simplified livestreams to social media.

There were other companies involved in preparing the development for the scaling. The work isn’t finished, but BSG’s part was used to start a beta version that allowed users to test it and provide feedback.

What is the team composition?

The team size changed depending on the need, but we worked with six resources in total. We worked with a project manager, who took care of the resources for the project.

How did you come to work with BSG?

I was working for a media company a few years ago as a business developer. BSG made us quite a complicated application for audio streaming. The collaboration was successful, and they delivered everything we needed. I decided to collaborate with them when I started my own company because they’d proven they could do the work.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $130,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with BSG between February 2018–February 2019. We’re getting some funding from the EU, so we had a strictly timed schedule. BSG worked until February 2019, after which we got the next funding round.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’ve delivered high-quality software in a proper time and for a fair price. We’re still in development, and it’s a long process due to the need to get more funding. The beta version has been published on our website, and it can be used for making livestreams, but we’re not on the market yet. We plan to launch in two months.

How did BSG perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re performing the same as a few years ago, but they have more potential now, given that they have a much bigger team. We agreed on a fixed price, end result, and time frame during the negotiations, and they managed those internally. We’re using EU funds, which means that we can’t change the timeline and we have a precise result to deliver in the end. In between, we can manage how to use resources or modify non-crucial functionalities, in order to get to the agreed-upon result.

Everything’s gone smoothly, and I’ve been able to discuss any potential issues at a personal level. We’ve had honest talks about the work. We had a Skype call with them each Friday, and we also had in-person meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m also a business developer, so I know how projects work and what technical problems can be. They didn’t try to cheat me and they always talked to me honestly about what was going on, which I considered important. They allocated more resources when we were confronted with technical challenges.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would like for them to work at a lower rate, but the price level for our kind of developers is actually higher domestically.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Clients should talk to BSG directly and get to know the people working there. Their quality, scheduling, and price are very good.

I’m the CIO and co-owner of a small insurance tech startup, Protect.me Sp. z.o.o. We create software for insurance companies and also distribute online and direct insurance.

What challenge were you trying to address with Better Software Group?

We had built a mobile app to distribute insurance software and services for the biggest mobile telco operator in Poland. To support our efforts, we needed a company to take over the development and create some large functionalities for multi-car insurance. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our existing mobile app was coded in Xamarin for Android and iOS. Once Better Software Group took over development, they provided combined services including UX design, preparation, and testing. 

The requirements stated that the insurance software needed to be automated. When users scan their car ID, it recognizes the make and model. The backend services we provided let users choose between offers from many different insurance companies.

Once a customer makes a selection, our app creates a policy that’s sent to them via email or their distribution channel of choice.  If a user doesn’t have a car ID with them or can’t figure out how to scan, there’s also the option to input all the data manually. 

At this point, the app is fully functional, and we’re just making minor graphical changes. 

What is the team composition? 

They had up to five people working on my project concurrently. I’ve only been in contact with Bartlomiej (CEO, Better Software Group) and sometimes with the project manager.

My friend recommended Better Software Group. I was considering two other companies, but they offered the best quality and price.

We’ve worked together from July 2018 until this month, March 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our company has tested the app, as have our partners, and the quality is very high. Better Software Group delivered fully tested functionalities. Any bugs we saw were very minor issues.

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Better Software Group keeps to a very tight schedule and delivers on time. I give them full marks.  The project manager is professional and well organized. He kept all the details at hand.

My employees talk with their team on a daily basis. We worked in two- or three-week sprints. They told us days beforehand if there would be even a few hours delay, and informed us upfront about any risks and issues regarding the scheduled functionality or technical problems. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed by their flexibility and great project management. Due to a change in requirements, we had some financial issues with our investor. Better Software Group was open to accommodating us and delivering the software despite our timing and budget constraints. I’ve worked in the software business for 20 years, and the number of errors was really quite low.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There could have better cooperation between the design and development resources. Sometimes, the UX designer created designs that were hard to implement on the development side.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Making sure your project manager is qualified and experienced enough is crucial.

I’m the head of systems development at NorthStar Group. The group develops and manufactures batteries, battery accessories, battery housing solutions, and monitoring systems.

What challenge were you trying to address with Better Software Group?

We needed to devise a way by which our built-in battery sensor could be used for health tests at workshops. We had an existing battery sensor, but we needed BSG to help develop a test app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve been using BSG for various app development projects during the past year and a half. During this period, we’ve together established a way of working to define and develop apps for our needs. We initiate every new project with jointly working on requirement documents. After that, BSG builds graphical mockups or screens, depending on what we need. Together with our client, we then review how the app will work and look. When app screens and functions are reviewed and approved, BSG will start to deliver functionality in sprints, that finally build up to create the defined product.

What is the team composition?

Team size varies from project to project. We used four resources in this case: two developers, one project manager, and one test engineer. We have weekly project meetings reviewing progress, sprint results, issues and prioritize remaining development work. Depending on the phase of the project we sometimes have more frequent meetings, when it’s most intense, it can be daily meetings combined with emails and chat.

How did you come to work with Better Software Group?

We don’t have the amount of work necessary to justify building an internal app development department, so we looked for an external long-term partner.  BSG had good references and expressed a similar development mindset to ours. From that starting point, they have since become our ongoing app development partner.

Our latest project with BSG ran between November–December 2018, but we’ve been working together for 18 months in various projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our end customer is currently rolling out the testing app, so our feedback at this point in time is from their internal stakeholders. They appreciate both its interface and reporting capabilities, but the full impact won’t be seen until after 6–9 months when the workshops start to use the tool. In my opinion, BSG delivered a high-quality app in terms of its graphical interface, stability, and the general look and feel.

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re easy to work with, communicative, responsive, and willing to go the extra mile when something can be improved, or issues are found. They’re proactive in identifying issues and establishing communication with us to rectify them. Deadlines and commitments are important to them, so they always try their best to meet what they promise.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re keen on producing a good end-result and experience for the user. They try to put themselves in the end user’s place.

No, not that I’ve seen.

AmRest is a restaurant franchisor based in Poland. One of our branches oversees Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) operations in twelve markets, serving as the main franchisor in Europe for Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Spain, France, Germany, and more. As the KFC Senior Digital Manager, I run activities across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

What challenge were you trying to address with Better Software Group?

We were working with an external backend development house for our mobile KFC apps and needed resources to build the frontend. Better Software Group joined the project to release the MVP of our iOS and Android apps. We’ve since expanded their role to include frontend development for our localized KFC websites.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, Better Software Group did the frontend development for our iOS and Android apps. We provided the design, and an external company provided the backend and corresponding API. Better Software Group then used these assets to deliver and launch the MVPs.

Following their success, we engaged them to develop the frontend for our localized KFC sites for our audiences in Poland, Czech Republic, and Hungary. These are dynamic e-commerce profiles that we use to promote and sell our products. Using our site and apps, customers can place orders online for delivery or pickup. The latter allows customers to avoid long queues.

The sites and apps are now live on the market, but we’re still improving our offerings on a monthly basis. Better Software Group continues to support us as we add new features, refine the customer journey, and streamline the UX/UI.

What is the team composition?

I mostly worked with three main points of contact: the project manager, the iOS development lead, and the Android development lead.

How did you come to work with Better Software Group?

They approached us during our tender process, so we considered them along with 6–7 other companies. They offered the most solid solutions, so we went with them.

How much have you invested with them?

In total, our budget has been around $300,000 across both projects.

What is the status of this engagement?

Their work started in March 2017 and is ongoing. We rolled out the apps in Poland in 2017 and then in Czech Republic and Hungary in 2018. Currently, they’re still supporting us with new features.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our products have been hugely successful in terms of both ROI and user engagement. KFC Poland is now one of the most digitalized retail and restaurant brands in the country, with easy-to-use features. Customers can conveniently order food and collect it at the counter without waiting in line.

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

During the early development stages, we had weekly staff meetings to go over any updates. As we got closer to the roll-out date, we communicated more frequently. They maintained daily contact in the last two weeks before going live.

It was a bit difficult because our backend provider was releasing a new API at the time, so Better Software Group had to wait for the assets and things kept changing. Nonetheless, their team remained flexible, performed well, and focused on our needs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve appreciated their flexibility the most. They’re open-minded, which allows them to focus on finding solutions rather than becoming paralyzed by issues. If they encountered a problem, they didn’t stop to list the things they couldn’t do; rather, they came up with workarounds. The team has an “anything is possible” attitude, and they've been supportive advisors.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t see any room for improvement. They’re a great company that really focuses on customer satisfaction. Instead of treating us like just another client, they’ve built a relationship with us and cooperate as an extension of our team. We tackle tasks together to deliver the final product.

I'm the head of mobile at Polska Press, one of the biggest press publishers in Poland. We work closely with local communities and supply them with quality media and news.

What challenge were you trying to address with Better Software Group?

We hired Better Software Group to develop several mobile apps for us on the iOS and Android systems. We run the 15 most prominent newspapers in the 15 largest regions of Poland. Our titles are represented by the apps Better Software Group developed for us. They built a version for each of our publications. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I only worked at Polska press for a year, so I can only speak to that period of the engagement. At the moment, we are focused on maintaining the apps Better Software Group created. We're not developing any new features. Instead, we are trying to focus on supporting the current versions. Currently, Better Software Group handles small tasks like fixing bugs. 

What is the team composition? 

I am in contact with three people from Better Software Group, but I have no doubt that their team includes many more employees. One person develops Android apps, and the other two are chief executives. 

How did you come to work with Better Software Group?

I'm not sure how we found them because they were working with your company before I was hired. 

How much have you invested with them?

We have a monthly agreement for 19 hours of work that costs $1,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

They've been working for our company since August 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Better Software Group has delivered all their work on time and within the budget. We don't see many bugs in our apps, so I can speak to the high quality of code Better Software Group programs. Our only complaints are with the difficult of marketing our applications, but that's not their job. Marketing is an in-house responsibility. We don't have any issues with their work. 

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Better Software Group manages the project quite effectively. They communicate about the project very clearly. Our level of contact is appropriate for our needs. I always have the information I need. They always let me know if something goes wrong so I can prepare. I have no complaints. Our collaboration has been very good. We correspond on a weekly basis. During most of our discussions, we try to focus on the current problems. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I most appreciate Better Software Group's open-mindedness. Whenever I find software bugs and ask them for help, they not only fix the problem but also give us advice on what we can add to make the apps better. They have great ideas to improve our products. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would like to have more direct contact with more of their developers than the one from the Android side sometimes. It would be easier to communicate with more of the team who is working on our app contact. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I think that meeting with them in person besides just on Skype would be a great idea. Potentially, future clients could consider having a workshop before they start a project together.

I’m an IT architect at ING, a financial services company. I cooperate with vendors to prepare new versions of our applications and deploy them to our production environment.

What challenge were you trying to address with Better Software Group?

We were looking for a new development outsourcing partner to implement changes to our apps.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The web app itself had been live for five years before we engaged BSG, so they took responsibility for an application they didn’t develop themselves. Currently, they develop and deploy version updates.

For each new release, we follow the same process. First, we collect our internal business requirements, then work with BSG’s analytical team to put them into a document. Once it’s agreed to by both sides, we go straight into implementation.

In addition to developing whatever we ask, BSG also works with a secondary company that is responsible for a back-office application. The team tests the software internally, then releases the app into our testing environment so that we can analyze user acceptance. Following this process and some regression tests, BSG installs the app in our production environment.

Because of shifting needs, we've worked with as many as six people at once.

They were referred to us by the vendor who was previously developing our solution.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our development process has changed dramatically since we switched vendors. Our approach was flexible, but we struggled with developing new functionalities on time. With BSG, we introduced an agile methodology that generated 10–12 new version releases each year, which is a significant improvement on the two or three we used to produce. Additionally, there have been no bugs in the past seven versions.

Speaking generally, they’ve brought fresh ideas to the application’s UX and changed its core to be more flexible and user-friendly. With the more accessible design, there are fewer unknowns for new users to deal with.

How did Better Software Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Currently, we're using the scrum methodology. We do a short sprint, completing a running version of the application every two or four weeks. We hold daily meetings online, and BSG is quite flexible in adjusting to the needs of our team.
