We asked Spandrel to take the current website design and update it to better match competitors/improve the user's flow through the website itself. Over the project, we held weekly development reports and reviewed the design up until it was launched.

Website visit retention has improved. Users are staying on our page longer than before and interacting with our content at a much better rate.

Jeff and Chris were great! They delivered the site when we needed it, and always integrated our team's feedback as quick as possible.

Jeff's unique experience with game design really gives him an excellent eye for a user's flow through anything, including websites.

Their team was great, and I was exceedingly happy with the results of the project! If I had to choose something, I would say a visualization of the project timeline at the project start, so that everyone can understand progress throughout.

Spandrel interactive and a small team from our research laboratory worked together to develop fall risk prevention virtual scenes. The scope of the work included recreating our laboratory space in a virtual format, and also constructing a virtual house complete with modifiable fall risk factors. The virtual spaces are interactive and have the ability to be modified based on different risk profiles.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The team at Spandrel Interactive delivered functional virtual environments within the agreed upon timeframe. In short, on time and fully functional virtual environments. These environments were tailored to our requests and there was constant communication between our team and the team at Spandrel interactive.

Projects were always delivered on time and they were to specifications. In the event that there was discrepancy, there was always a willingness to work with us to find a solution. We really valued the efforts by the team at Spandrel Interactive to ensure that our needs were met. We had constant communication from the team at Spandrel Interactive. They were available with short notice and would meet either in-person or virtually.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most unique aspect of this company is their passion for the projects. The team at Spandrel Interactive are dedicated and professional. We have a lot of appreciation for their contributions to the project, we feel that they went above and beyond what was expected and delivered an excellent final product.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Spandrel Interactive could have done differently?

There were elements that required some improvement, but throughout the process we were able to work together to overcome these issues. As mentioned previously, the level of communication was constant and this prevented any minor issue to develop into a major issue. All credit to them as they initiated this. Excellent customer support and project management.

We have been collaborating with Spandrel Interactive on their development of a novel dance choreography system that leverages the Microsoft HoloLens 2 platform, marker-less motion capture using Microsoft Kinect, and backend data management using Google Firebase. This work has been funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation. Atlantic Ballet is both the client and collaborator on this project.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Advanced prototype demonstration and testing sessions, and the delivery of advanced prototypes.

They are experienced users of Agile / SCRUM and have their own project management tools and rituals to track scrums, revisions, burn down, etc. The principal, Jeff, has considerable experience in the software industry and has delivered other projects to clients besides the one on which we are collaborating with them.

There are two impressive aspects to Spandrel:

1. They have a solid command of the 3D animation, VR/MR, and motion tracking space.
2. They are productive in designing, testing, and delivering non-trivial software systems via teams of 6 to 10 people.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Spandrel Interactive could have done differently?

We expect to work with Spandrel on several exciting new Mixed Reality projects, including the use of generative AI. Say tuned!

We wanted to develop a second concept VR training module for handwashing. Spandrel was able to exceed my expectations, having the "dirt" remain and follow the hands throughout the process and to forgo the use of controllers which are a hindrance for our members.

Not only do things proceed on-time, but they are very good in setting up short meetings along the way to show you the progress throughout the entire project. Keep you interested. I love how enthusiastic they are about the project. Genuine in how much they enjoy creating.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their enthusiasm for the project. I especially loved that they were willing to join me on the frontlines to see how the "user" interacts with the module and equipment. This is how they came to the conclusion of removing controllers which seemed to deter from user friendly application. They love to problem solve and somehow they seem to improve on an already high quality product.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Spandrel Interactive could have done differently?

I can't think of anything. Everyone who works there is of high quality and professional. Things are completed on-budget, on-time and above expectations. Don't think you can ask for anything more!

Spandrel was contracted to design and test an end-to-end user experience that would allow users to engage with a complex topic while experiencing minimal cognitive load. This involved:

• regular design sessions and iteration with The Black Arcs' technical lead
• development of an overall UX strategy
• collaboration with Black Arcs on identifying and streamlining the workflows involved in building a digital twin, running a pandemic simulation, and interpreting results
• development of specific UX designs for all the major workflows of the application
• regular external user testing of UX implementations

Spandrel Interactive was thorough, professional, on-schedule, and in-budget. They were fearless in tackling complex, atypical UX questions for a many-layered application, and did an excellent job boiling down the system into a series of interwoven, well-defined workflows. There was a dramatic improvement to the user experience over the course of the project as a result.

Their willingness to collaborate on a difficult project rather than delivering a rote solution that ticked all the boxes is a testament to the passion of their team and their drive to do a great job. They clearly understood the goal of the project, and worked closely with our staff to tackle to underlying challenges as comprehensively as possible.
